re: The Lord of the Rings NeoPortal

I think something like this sort of format would work.

Book Title:
Author: J.R.R. Tolkien
Publisher:
Date Published:

Characters: (Only major ones, minor ones can be added later if needed; include brief summary of each person)
Races: (Humans, elves, dwarves, etc.; include brief summary of each race)
Lands: (Just the major ones touched on in each different book; include brief summary of each one)
Plot: (Description of story)

That seems decent to me, feel free to add your own opinions to this.

The Lord of the Rings
The Two Towers

Movie Summary
quote IMDb Synapsis
The Fellowship has been broken. Boromir is dead, Frodo Baggins and Samwise Gamgee have gone to Mordor alone to destroy the One Ring, Merry and Pippin have been captured by the Uruk-hai, and Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli have made friends of the Rohan, a race of humans that are in the path of the upcoming war, led by its aging king, Théoden. The two towers between Mordor and Isengard, Barad-dúr and Orthanc, have united in their lust for destruction. The corrupt wizard Saruman, under the power of the Dark Lord Sauron, and his slimy assistant, Gríma Wormtongue, have created a grand Uruk-hai army bent on the destruction of Man and Middle-earth. The rebellion against Sauron is building up and will be led by Gandalf the White, who was thought to be dead after the Balrog captured him. One of the Ring's original bearers, the creature Gollum, has tracked Frodo and Sam down in search of his 'precious', but is captured by the Hobbits and used as a way to lead them to Mt. Doom. The War of the Ring has now begun...

The Lord of the Rings
The Return of the King

Movie Summary
quote Neoseeker Synapsis
With the final battle joined and the legions of darkness gathering, Gandalf urgently tries to rally Gondor's broken army to action. He is aided by Rohan's King Theoden, who unites his warriors for history's biggest test. Yet even with their courage and passionate loyalty, the forces of men--with Eowyn and Merry hidden among them--are no match for the enemies swarming against Gondor. Still, in the face of great losses, they charge forward into the battle of their lifetimes, tied together by their singular goal to keep Sauron distracted and give the Ring Bearer a chance to complete his quest. Their hopes rest with Frodo, a tiny but determined hobbit making a perilous trip across treacherous enemy lands to cast the One Ring into the fires of Mount Doom. The closer Frodo gets to his final destination, the heavier his burden becomes and the more he must rely on Samwise Gamgee. Gollum-and the Ring itself-will test Frodo's allegiances and, ultimately, his humanity.

The Lord of the Rings

Movie Summary
quote IMDb Synapsis
Long ago, in the early years of the Second Age, the great Elven-smiths forged Rings of Power -- Nine for mortal Men, Seven for the Dwarf-lords, and three for the tall Elf-kings. But then, the Dark Lord Sauron learned the craft of ring-making and made the Master Ring -- The One Ring to rule them all. With the One Ring, Middle-earth is his and he cannot be overcome. As the last alliance of Men and Elves fell beneath his power, the ring fell into the hands of Prince Isildur of the mighty kings from across the sea. He did not destroy the ring, and because of this, the spirit of Sauron lived on and began to take shape and grow again. The Ring had a will of its own, and had a way of slipping from hand to hand, so that it might at last get back to its master. The Ring lay in the bottom of a lake for thousands of years. During those years, Sauron captured the nine Rings that were made for Men and turned their owners into the Ringwraiths: Terrible shadows under his great shadow who roamed the world searching for the One Ring. The Ring, meanwhile, was found by two friends. One of which, was so enticed by the Ring's power that he killed his friend to gain control of it. Sméagol possessed the Ring for years, until it was discovered (some might say stolen) by the hobbit Bilbo Baggins. In a land called the Shire, Frodo inherits the Ring from his uncle, Bilbo. Now Frodo must take a journey across Middle-earth, and throw the Ring into the volcano, Mt. Doom, the only place it can be destroyed.

Nice work LD, cept for the last one, you accidently put the title, picture, and summary of The Hobbit again. I think you meant the cartoon Lord of the Rings, based on the cast?

Yeah, I had it all there, but I forgot to give it a once over before clicking submit. The summary was different, only the picture and the title were wrong. But it's fixed now, though I may get a better picture later.

I forgot I even applied to do anything at all on this, but if you still need information on any of the games then I can do Return of the King on PS2. I could also do some things on the movies but it looks like you already have them covered.

re: The Lord of the Rings NeoPortal

Any reasons why this died off? I'm a huge fan of Lord of the Rings and I could see one hell of a lot of content for a NeoWiki. Since then we've seen new games released in the series, Battle for Middle Earth, Lord of the Rings Online etc. so there's even more content to expand on especially as Lord of the Rings Online is an MMO.

Categories could be split between the movies, games and the books with sub-categories to for things such as Locations, Races, Characters etc.

I'd jump at the chance to help on this Wiki.

We need to round up more support for this Wiki again. Probably contacting the original members interested to see which ones are still interested.

I've read the books many times, and I would love to help out on the mentioned section. Could also help out on the movies as well.

I also own LotR Tactis for the PSP.

Edit: And own them (Hobbit, The LotR trilogy)

I'm a pretty big Lord of the Rings fan who would be happy to offer some help.

I've read and own the books, loved and own the movies but sadly in the gaming department I've only played and own Lord of the Rings: Return of the King but I'd help out wherever I can.
