Well its more stragetic since it has a "Weak attack mmedium attack,Sttrong attack" magnus instead of what the first one had(never played the first one) And a few bosses are kinda hard, but not that hard to keep you stuck on for a few weeks.

This is a bit lengthy but here it goes...
I would say that this one is even better than the first, and thats saying something(and I got the first on day on as well)! First of all, this game feels a lot like the original BK as it has a lot of the same locations (but 20 years in the past). One thing this game does better than the orginal is have better voice acting. Remember how in the first the characcters voices sound kind of "airy," like they had been recorded with some cheap $10 recorder? Well none of that now, its top notch, but at times a tad bit melodramatic. The battle system is the thing that went under the most change though. Its kind of hard to describe it in all of its glory but I'll give it a shot. And yes, I like this battle system a more.
Take everything you know about the original BK's battle system and throw it out the window (except a few things). First, you must understand every type of magnus card. Each card has a spirit number (similar to the first), but instead of using these numbers to make poker hands, they are used to determine what order you're cars can be played in. The numbers go from 0-6 and must be played low to high. So if you play a 2 to begin with, you could play a 4 but not a 1. So here are the types with spirit numbers.
0 Equip Cards The offensive equip cards are used to increase the strength of an attack or add a nasty effect to it (such as poison). Each offensive equip card has 4 measures of its strenght: Attack (how much damage it does), Crush (the ability to knock and enemy down), Durability (how many hits the weapon will last for before it breaks), and its special effect (like poison, decreased ice defence, etc...) if any. The defencive equip cards are used to lighten to effect of an enemy blow or give you some special ability such as gradual HP recovery. Each defensive card has 4 measures of its strength: Defence (obvious, how much less damage you'll take), Durability (how many enemy attacks it can absorb before breaking), Elemental Resistance (defences from different elemtal attacks), and special effects (like gradual HP recovery, the inability to be knocked down, etc...). Also some equip cards have an "R" on the top right corner which means that they can be used in a Relay Combo (more on that later)
1 "Weak Attack" and "Weak Attack B" Basic attacks that don't pack much power but are great for combo starters.
2 "Medium Attack" and "Medium Attack B" Pretty much the same as weak attacks but more powerful.
3 "Strong Attack" and "Strong Attack B" Pretty much the same as medium attacks but more powerful.
4 Special Attacks that are level 1. Special attacks require MP (magnus points) to perform that are gained by stringing more card combos together. Level 1 special attacks cost 1 MP.
5 Special Attacks that are level 2. Require 2 MP.
6 Special Attacks that are level 3. Require 3 MP.
There are other magnus that can't be used in a combo and these are know as items, artifacts, and strategy.
Items are what they sound like, items such as healing potions used to aid your party or hinder the enemy in battle. Keep in mind that you can't string items together in combos like in the original.
Artifacts are like super awesome items. They have really awesome effects (such as lowering the speed of all enemys). But because they are so good, artifacts require MP to use.
Strategy magnus are things like "Retreat" (which allows you to run from battle), "Will" (which charges your MP gauge), and "Taunt" (which charges a small amount of MP and sometimes forces all enemies to attack the user).
Now that you know all of the card types its time to learn the rules of battle. Each character draws from one central deck to use cards instead of individual cards. This is why you must balance your deck to accomodate all three of your characters evenly. But in case you just get a plain crappy opening hand, the game lets you hit b to toss cards you don't want (only one at a time first but eventually a lot more).
Now to explain how turns work. Ever played a Final Fantasy game? It is similar to those in the sense that it has an ATB of sorts. Once a character's meter under their name drains, they are allowed to be issued commands via magnus, just like the original. Once you have issued your commands, the character will be added to a "line" in which every combatant takes part in. The first combatant in line will take his/her action followed immediately by the next combatant. This creates an illusion of real time combat!
Also, if a character ends an attack with a special attack and if you have a "Weak Attack" magnus in you're hand, you can perform a Relay Combo by playing that "Weak Attack" (or an equip card marked with an "R" before your "Weak Attack") and continue to play cards as you usually would to ammass to an uninterrupted flurry of attacks by every one of your characters!
Also, just like in the first game if you play certain cards in a certain order it makes something. But unlike in the first game it doesn't make a new card but adds in some new animation to your attack and gives it some sort of extra strength (multiply attack power, boost turnover speed, etc...). These are know as EX Combos. For instance if I play "Weak Attack," "Medium Attack," "Strong Attack B," "Heavenfall," "Ice Bloom," and "Rime Blade" in sequential order, I will trigger the EX Combo "True Heaven's Glacier."
Summary, with about 100 EX Combos, about 500 completely unique magnus, the possibilities are endless.
Now lets talk about some other cool features. Remember quest magnus from the original? Now they can be fused with weapons to make new ones! Let's say I have the quest magnus "Fluffy Pillow" and the battle magnus "Ray of Truth," if I fuse them at a shop I'll creat a new battle magnus (can't remember the name) that adds sleeping and poison properites to the holy weapon.
Also, I would say that this one is a little bit longer than the first. If your like me and like to smell the roses and do every sidequest, this is a VERY long game. I've played for about 80 hours and still haven't been to a few continents and done every sidequest! By the way, I played the first game for almost 100 hours!
Speaking of sidequests, rember all of those people in the original BK that would ask for a specific magnus and you were expected to remember everyone's request? Well in this game, there is a sidequest log that says all of the whos, whats, and wheres of the sidequest making it easier to be organized and complete.
I could go on all day about how awesome this game is. But it is DEFINITELY worth your 50 bucks. If you have any other questions, fell free to ask, if not go out and get the game now!
Oh, and greg, you should get the first game after you finish this one!

I thought it was only $40 oO Guess I'll wait until the price lowers to 19.99 or sumthin Well, it normally should retail at $50 but it is possible to get it for $40. I actually bought it at Target for $40 so I assume they must have had a sale on it. That is also what happened to me when I got Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, I got it within the first week at Target and it was only $40! I don't think this game will lower in price anytime soon seeing as the original still hasn't. Unless of course your hoping to get it used.

Most of the positives of the game have been highlighted above, so I will not reiterate them.
I would highly suggest that you partake in the purchase of this title.
