So the most interesting thing happened to me about two hours ago on Xbox live. I was playing with some people online, and this one guy, who's name I forget, comes in. He starts questioning me about how long I've played DOA for, and what I thought of it, etc. Turns out, this guy's an undercover messenger for Tecmo who was surveying players online for their opinions on what should be changed for DOA5. I got some good information and was asked some neat questions, I thought I'd pass it along.

- Curious as too what I thought about the new DOA characters, particullarly Lisa. Was surprised when I said she was awful and uninteresting, asked for ways to improve her. Could Lisa be playing an important role in DOA5?

- Asked about Zack's shop. Mentioned that you'll be able to buy items for your character to customize them with (much like DOAXBV I presume).

- Asked about rank, whether or not the ranking system should be changed. Threw out the idea of rankings (S, SS, A, etc) would be able to unlock certain costumes. Also suggested different costumes effective attributes.

- Inquired whether or not I would be upset if they kept the graphics the same, or a bit less polished, if customizability/more costumes/content would be available.

- Mentioned the possibility of creating a character. Didn't get into detail about this, I said that it would make the game unbalanced much like the SVR custom characters.

- Asked about intractability with environment, whether or not things like ground damage should be included and if I would like to see more environmental hazards.

- Emphasis on the importance of tag, special grabs. Asked what I thought about it.

- Mentioned the idea of character fusion.

Gives you some potential ideas what you might see in DOA5. He said he can't say too much, only that he's seen the models for a couple of characters and said they look fantastic. I told em to put in a good word for Hitomi and that I hope she's back and awesome in DOA5 . I also suggested that the ninjas should be tweaked a bit so that they aren't all top tier, namely Ayane and Hayabusa.

It was an awesome experience, I got to play/talk with this guy for almost an hour. Really friendly individual.

That messenger was a moron to come to you. DOWN WITH HITOMI!

Remove the teleporting for Hayabusa and bring back his handstand. That's all I want. Hayate can keep his since it doesn't give him much of an advantage, slight, but not much.

Create a character wouldn't be that unbalanced. It worked well in Soul Calibur 3. Actually, that was the only balanced part of SC3.

They won't dumb down the flagship character for Team Ninja. He's been in Dead or Alive since the beginning, had a hardcore action game made around him that entitled not 1, but 2 remakes, AND made an appearance in Super Swing Golf on the Wii.

They will NOT tone him down or by the force of greyskull they will get their asses handed to them by the Dragon Sword.

They can tone down Kasumi though. Don't care if she's the hottest character. She's too *bleep*ing powerful. Kristie too, she's lame. Eliot should be scrapped. More emphasis on Bass and Tina.

creating a character would be cool but not if you could customise the stats (like power, health, strength etc)having an unstopable machine is no fun.

more characters would be cool. cos it would mean more hours of gameplay. like on tekken (i know its a mediocre fighting game but)theres about 30 characters that follow their own individual story. they all have their own fighting style. if they put some of the good stuff from tekken into DOA it would make a sweet game.

Kasumi is only overpowered if you have no idea what your doing. Ayane and Hayabusa were the two characters I urged were tied back a bit, and honestly, they should be. Christie sucks enough already, no reason to nerf her anymore than they already have.

Don't see them pushing Bass/Tina, seemed more interested in Lisa. Unless Tina can form a relevant connection with Lisa, I don't see them taking off.

Creating characters would be fun, but would result in massively unbalanced characters. Imagine someone with Hitomi's fK, Ein's bK, Ayane's bY and Christie's Y.

Stupid.

I don't expect them to tone down Hayabusa, but I really think they should.

woah thats really cool jim!! theres sumthing wrong with my xbox live connection so i think im gunna have to get a different router or sumthing

i would like to see ayane nd hayabusa toned down a little bit, there both way 2 powerful. like hayabusa's teleporting is just over the top annoying. and ayane spins 2 much it makes me dizzy lol

and they should make the AI less cheap. today i was playing time attack with kasumi and i was playing tina and she was doing her charge-up attack, so i pressed guard and sumhow she grabbed me right in the middle of charging. so yea they need to make it ALOT less cheap.

ayane is not really overpowered if u ask me.. she has plenty of unsafe moves that oculd put her on a disadvantage.. she sucks enough already.. the reason she is top because she is fast and has plenty of spacing tools.. nothing to it..

and the charge move of tina.. is not really cheap.. theres 2.. a charge move (46P) or the catch grab (46 + throw).. if u ask me.. hayabusas teleport is far cheaper than that.. his nin stance?? err.. so many things u could do.. u could punch, teleport, kick or whatever.. u just cant predict that unless ur lucky so tinas charge atk is nothing

ayane shouldnt be toned down.. she may be fast but she doesnt do much damage.. and u cant remove her spin.. theyve removed the spin that moves u back but doesnt have u backturned in doa3.. enough spin removing..

Wow Botanist...

Ayane has a ridiculous amount of tools. If you've seen the level that Xdest plays her at, you'd understand why she needs to be nerfed. And saying a top tier character sucks contradicts itself too...

She needs to be fixed, period. Even if it's by removing her spinning and her stupid catch grab, that would probably be enough. Just my opinion, I don't really care how they make her worse, they just need to do it.

When asked about the new characters I said aside from Eliot, I didn't like too many of them. Hitomi and Eliot were two characters I urged they kept around.

botanist i said that tina sumhow stopped her charging attack and grabbed me when i guarded. it seems like its a reflex for the AI to grab wen u guard, but thats just cheap if u ask me.

and yea ayane and hayabusa deffinitly need 2 be tuned down, ayane has way to many spin moves and hayabusa's teleport is a bit much.

and i hope they kill off christie in the DOA5

I still fail to see how create-a-character wouldn't work. I'm not talking Mortal Kombat shit where you customize every little combo/finisher.

I'm talking SC3. Obviously something you haven't played Jim. You created the character, picked a style for that character, and depending on design, that character would have different moves available to him.

Not cheap in the slightest.

As far as actual gameplay elements, remove the ground game and the charge-up moves.

Kasumi = cheap only if you don't know how to defend against her and becomes predictable after a while. Once you've beaten one good one, (which from the sounds of it, you haven't) you shouldn't have a problem with too many others. She's cheap at first sight, but if you look into it, she's no better/worse than Hitomi.

I own Soul Caliber 3, so stuff it. It's a broken game, so referencing it's create a character mode is well done is sketch. It's got lots of variety, costume/move wise, but I'm sure at high level play you get overpowered characters, which is what DOA should try to avoid. Most created characters in games are broken, so I assume this wouldn't be any different...

Ground game is fine, gives the offensive players the advantage, which is how it should be.
