Hmmm - any good?

Is this game actually any good? Lots of reviews says it is - but they were written when there wasn't much to compare it it to. Also I don't have Live, so can you play a "death match" style game against bots, without connecting to live?
Cheers

It's a fun game and I enjoyed it. And yes, you can play against bots by yourself but I think it is rather boring playing by yourself, I only ever play this game with a friend or with someone else.

re: Hmmm - any good?

Although I wasn't that impressed the first time I played it, and only completed the first mission before putting it away for a year, I now wish I had stuck with it. Then again, I'm glad I have something to play while waiting for the x-mas releases.

I discovered the most amazing thing in this game on campaign. Like all games these days, there are difficulty levels from novice to expert. This game changes up each mission where the more difficult levels require you to approach the mission more carefully and with thought. In example, on a novice mission, you progress in one part by blowing a hole in a wall to continue the path. On the same mission at a harder level, you don't have the demolition equipped and have to figure out a different way to complete the mission.

I've never seen this in a game before, and it sure makes for a lot better re-play value.

lol I didn't even get that far when I first bought the game at the 360's launch. Honestly, I thought the game just completely sucked and just put it on the shelf where it stayed there for since...almost three years. I was bored, for some reason, and booted the game up, probably because of the hottie main character. I just played through the first three missions (0 through 2) and I was definitely wrong about this game. It is a good game, and I have to say, a pretty interesting and somewhat novel approach to an FPS.

My only complaint about it is honestly MY FAULT, not the game's. In most FPS's, when you run out of bullets in a clip you automatically reload, regardless of how many times you press the fire button. This game, to my infinite frustration WILL NOT reload while you are trying to fire. It is a bad habit on my part, being used to just hitting the fire button a few times to get a jump on the ending reload cycle, but this game STOPS reloading. lol My fault, I know. It's something I have to get used to.

I love the storyline, and I honesly love the fact that you have a hot girl as the main character and you get to stare at her butt and midriff when not firing.

Okay, I take it back. lol My orginal impressions about this game were right. I find this game infuriating and I'm done with it. Oh well, it was fun in some few spots for about 4 levels.
