re: i need help making a character

I remember when I first started Oblivion, I used this class.

Race: Khajit
Class: Cat Burgalar
Skills:
Destruction
Illusion
Sneak
Light Armour
Blade
Hand-to-hand
Security

It worked for me.

re: i need help making a character

Name/Class: Drizz't / Spellblade
Race/Gender: Dark Elf (Dunmer) / Male
Birthsign: The Atronach
Specialization: Magic
Attributes: Strength, Endurance
Major Skills: Alchemy, Destruction, Restoration, Blunt,
Block, Armorer, Heavy Armor

Health/Magicka/Fatigue: 90/230/160
Max Level: 50.5
Encumbrance: 225

Abilities:
- Summon Ghost (daily: for 1 min.)
- Resist Fire (constant: 75 pt. Self)
- Spell Absorption (constant: 50 pt. Self)

Drawbacks:
- Magicka regeneration disabled

Stats:
INTELLIGENCE-40: Alchemy-30, Mysticism-15, Conjuration-10
WILLPOWER-30: Destruction-40, Alteration-10, Restoration-30
PERSONALITY-30: Illusion-10, Mercantile-5, Speechcraft-5
AGILITY-40: Security-5, Sneak-5, Marksman-10
SPEED-50: Athletics-10, Acrobatics-5, Light Armor-10
STRENGTH-45: Blunt-30, Blade-15, Hand to Hand-5
ENDURANCE-45: Block-25, Armorer-25, Heavy Armor-25
LUCK-50

Explanations are as follows:

Race: The only two races with good scores in Strength, Intelligence, and Endurance were the Imperial and the Dunmer. I chose Dunmer. You could get some better stats in two areas by sacrificing stats in the third, but you'd have to work on the third more. For example, you could go with a Redguard for better Strength and Endurance, but you'd have to make sure to get +5 to Intelligence to counter the lower starting Intelligence.

Birthsign: Honestly, you could go with the Warrior, but you'd have rather poor Starting Magicka. The character you're going for can do very well with the Atronach, as they won't be relying on their spells to cause most of their damage.

Specialization: You're going to be using mostly Melee to do your damage, so Combat doesn't need the boost it gives. Magic, on the other hand, probably won't be used as much, so it's going to need all the help it can get.

Majors
  • Blade - You can go with Blunt, if you like, but Blades are lighter, and you don't have a whole lot of Strenth to carry the heavier Blunts.
  • Heavy Armor - If you like, you can go with Light Armor instead. Heavy Armor just fits the idea of a Warrior.
  • Armorer - Armor and Weapons are only good if they're fully repaired. This allows you to repair them yourself.
  • Block - Rather self-explanatory, I hope.
  • Destruction - You wanted this, and higher levels are useful.
  • Restoration - Useful skill, but painfully slow to level. Having it as a Major and a Specialization will cause it to increase very quickly.
  • Alchemy - This is very useful, both for Warriors and for Mage's. There are some powerful Potions you can create that make you much harder to kill. I know of one that allowed me to go on a killing spree in Skingrad using my Fists and not wearing any armor. I even had 4 guards attacking me at one point, and still survived without taking any noticable damage. A must-have skill.
Also, the name was just the first that popped into my mind. Name the character whatever you want.

all of that looks really good. i still have a few more questions. im new to the game so im not sure how to manage magika that well so would it be better to have a birthsign of the mage or warrior instead? and also should i join the mages guild or fighters? and how long is the main quest

Mage, though I personally prefer the Atronach.

It doesn't matter what Guild you join; it's possible to be the head of all of them at the same time. There's never any conflict where you have to choose one or the other.

Main Quest isn't actually very long. Most of Oblivion's appeal actually seems to lie outside the Main Quest.

re: i need help making a character

For managing Magicka how about I make you the third person on my list?

I know you're not going for pure mage and are only wanting to use mostly basic magic to support your melee skills, but it dosn't hurt to know what else you can do.

In fact the spell effects I say are useful for every type of character.

Dunmer (my favorite race) are skillful warriors who start out with a + to destruction. Perfect race for that. And imo, Atronach should never have been made. But that's imo.
