Nah, Episode 1 was the first expansion to the Half Life game, but I agree, the title is somewhat misleading.

According to Valve, there are 3 games in the Half-Life series:
-Half-Life -Half-Life 2 -Half-Life 2: Episodes 1-3 (which they call Half-Life 3) They're just expansions. Duh. | |

Portal is quite a challenge, was trying it out last night. I can only imagine how much more difficult the puzzles will get as I progress.

So Orange Box doesn't contain the original 1998 game Half Life 1, but contains an expansion to it, along with Half Life 2 and 2 expansions to that.
Basically, what installments are missing to date of the Half Life series in OB? | |

No it doesn't contain anything involving the first Half-Life. As mentioned, the 'episode one' is a bit confusing.
There's Half-Life 2, Ep. 1, Ep. 2, and Lost Cause if that counts...all are for Half-Life 2. ------------------- | |
