re: General Discussion XIV :: Ahhh Christmas |

Hell I bought Half-Life 2 on release day back in 2004 and played it off and on until the day the Orange Box came out. Hell, up through early 2006 it never left my hard drive until I began to pirate DVDs from my local rental store and I deleted HL2 to make space.
I'm still working through HL2 and Episode 1 when I can pry myself away from the brilliance of Portal. Only when I've finished the OB completely will I go back to playing some Gears. Oh and I'm probably going to be trading in my copy of Halo 3 towards my reservation of CoD4 (will get probably well over $40 for it alone and I can't be assed to set up all the crap for eBay and wait 4 weeks for someone to buy it). Oh yeah, and I am getting paid a dollar more an hour, plus I'm getting a full-time posistion (at least 25-30 hours at my store, then a full 40 hour workweek when I move to another store). Oh, this also means that since I'm a manager, I'll get to meet up with Nintendo/Sony/Microsoft reps and get all kinds of free crap from them like pens, lanyards and...oh, I dunno... Full games (yes this is true. The other guy at my store that has the same title as I do has gotten Metroid Prime 3, Heavenly Sword and Lair all for free).

Some of my favorite and greatest games of all time include Super Metroid, Half-Life 1, and Silent Hill 2.
Oh and by the way, the single player in COD4 looks like it's going to suck, and I might not get it now. PC demo for the lose.

Hell, I don't know about that Jimbo. Every video I've ever seen of the SP of CoD4 looks absolutely brilliant (shallow granted, but fun popcorn-movie type fare). I know for an absolute fact that even if the SP campaign suddenly begins to suck, it won't matter because the multiplayer is so goddamn brilliant.

I'm pretty sure theres an offer where you can trade in Halo 3 and get Assassin's Creed alot cheaper. I'm not sure if thats around for you guys though.

Eh, I'm probably not going to buy Assasin's Creed new (maybe used, which makes the price around $40 or so for me if I wait). I definitely will play it when it's out (as I can check out any game I want from work and play it for free), but I'm getting 2 games in November (versus my usual 1 per 1-2 months) so I can't buy everything.
I do get extra cash when I trade it in towards CoD4 though (which will probably completely pay it off except about $8-10 now that I think about it).

I guess maybe I'm only still interested in gears because I was away for about 5 months and didnt play it once in that time, but still it seems to be getting way too much ragging on the forums now when clearly it's a great game.
Personally though, UO while pvping is the best game I've ever played and that'll never be beaten. ------------------- ![]() quote Daisy

quote SerephMaybe, the Beta kind of gave me my fix though and I'm not really sure I need any more to be completely honest. I mean sure there are going to be more maps and more guns but I feel pretty satisfied with the amount of time I've put into it already. So what are the 2 games you're getting in November Sereph? And on the discussion of Assassin's Creed, it looks phenomenal from a visual standpoint but the gameplay looks pretty boring. The guards and yourself run SO SLOW! It's not even exciting looking. This a game based around being chased and a good chase, especially on foot, should be the kind where both parties are running fast as *bleep* and you have to be really quick to time your jumps and think ahead about what you're going to do. Since it appears Assassin's Creed is all slow chases you have all the time in the world to wait to the last second to think about what you're going to do.

Not really:
As for my two games, they're Call of Duty 4 and Mass Effect (I NEED Mass Effect, as Bioshock and Half-Life 2 were the last great story-based games I've played and I need to add another).

Assassin's creed looks pretty cool the only thing I find annoying is how when your surrounded, the enemies seem to hover around you waiting for you to kill them.
The games that I'm looking forward to is Mass Effect and Dead Space, have any of you guys heard or read about Dead Space? I read an article on it in GameInformer magazine, it looks absolutely beautiful and looks to be a brilliant new game of the horror genre, excuse me Sci-fi/horror. Of course it's not coming out for awhile, like until mid 08.

It's coming in late 08 (tenative release is Oct 08). I love everything I've seen in it so far (I transposed much of the Gameinformer article to this thread because it sounded so cool).

Fair play they're the most incompetent swordsmen on the planet, they just stand there when you're back is facing them.
Hopefully it's a lot harder in the actual game, to the point that even going into a situation like that is unrealistic. ------------------- ![]() quote Daisy

I wonder if the Castlevania X promotional offer of the 8 bit simon figure is still available, it was shown for a few weeks months ago then it dissappeared ;__;
Assassin's creed would definetly remind me of Prince of Persia, if its like that, only witht he exception of running away alot, ill take it.

Oh as for the link, I'm not interested in that or even playing any mmo for now. The one comment in there that is incorrect though is it states that UO was a grind game, when it was completely the opposite. I, and basically everyone I played with, played uo much like a shooter in the respect that we had ourselves setup and played with absolutely no intention of improving our characters or anything like that.
