The game's been out for a good half year now, so a Neoseeker tournament is long overdue. This should really serve as a method to show your fellow forum members if you really can rape them "in the ass with no lube." Mmmm.

This tournament will take the style of a Ladder tournament. I considered different styles of competition, but based on the number of members, I felt this way would give the competition a longer life span, instead of being over quite quickly. This method also allows the worse teams to have just as many matches as everyone else. So once all the people have signed up, each team will play every other team twice. A win gives you three points, and a loss gives you nothing.

Please note that these rules are subject to change. I'm all for suggestions on how you think this can be improved.

Since quite a few people have asked, I'll write it here. There is currently no set date for the beginning of this tournament. I want as many teams to sign up as possible before this gets underway. Once I feel a decent number have signed up, I will set a deadline for anyone else interested in entering.

» MATCH FORMAT

This will still be subject to change, but this is how the matches will currently work.

3 vs. 3 matches

Games will be Warzone, first to 7 rounds. The timer will be set to 3 minutes per round, with a bleed-out of twenty seconds. No team damage and no weapon swaps.

Games will be held on a cycle of 4 maps. The winner will be decided by the team who wins the greatest number of rounds over the 4 matches. However, if a team wins the first three matches, they win the overall match automatically, without going to a fourth match. The map cycle will be Gridlock, Fuel Depot, Clocktower, War Machine.

All games will be hosted by an impartial player. Your game will be assigned a host prior to you playing it. The host will not participate in the games in any capacity. If the team without the host kills all playing members of the opposing team, they may kill the host to affirm their victory.

There's no confirmed date yet. After a sufficient number have signed up, I'll write up a ladder and an initial set of match ups. Depending on how quickly this goes along, the first match could be within a week or two. I don't really want to rush this, I want to give everyone a good chance to get a team together.

For all those who have signed up by themselves please still tell me your Gamertag, and those signing as a team please still use the format I provided, makes it easier for me.

And yeah, if a US teams plays a Euro team, we'll switch between hosts every match, unless it turns out the lag is fine on both sides.

Sorry if we don't believe you, but from our past experiences, you have the worst connection I've ever seen on live. Even Eureka in Sudan didn't lag games as much as you did.

I'll play with you, and I'll get some US Neo players to play with you, and we'll see what it's like. If it turns out your connection is now fine, you're free to host for the competition.

Haha, I meant when he's actually in Sudan. He's in Cali atm, and the connection he's got there must be dial up, it's just shit. But yeah, when I used to play with him a few months ago, his connection wasn't as bad.

Sounds like that could work well, we'll give it a go like that then.

And I'm not too sure when we'll be starting. Could be next weekend if sign ups go nice and quickly, but we'll see. Could be longer.

Depends, if the guest will be playing with you reliably (ie, can be there all the time), then I don't see why not.

I can safely say it will be after.

I think screening the potential hosts and finding good ones to host games that take place with people from different continents should help solve that problem.

I think we've already found an American host in Deadman Rules (Dan 85). But feel free to get on Gears and we'll get some brits together to test your connection.

We ideally want quite a few good hosts from both US and Europe. It's not really fair to force Dan to host every single game, and furthermore, he might not always be available. Cheers for the offer pyro.

For everyone else who are making team arrangements in this thread, once you come up with something conclusive, please do follow the entry format posted in my original post, I'm not too sure if some of you have actually formed teams or not yet.

To be honest, I'm wanting to get a bit more feedback from these members I've not heard of before (and who have barely no posts on Neo), to make sure they're reliable enough to actually participate in the Gears competition. As I've said previously, I'd like to keep this competition to established Neo members only, not any random person who just singed up.

There's a difference there George. I've played with I Beat Nerds, and he's friends with Tom. I trust that he'll be available to play our matches, however, I can't be certain that someone with 0 posts on Neo, who I've never seen play will be reliable enough to actually check the site enough and turn up to all matches.

Oops, sorry, hadn't updated the first post after we'd talked it through in the thread. We're doing it as Cdemon said, 4 matches, 2 on each host. Winner is decided by who wins the most rounds.

I'll soon start up a seperate thread for map nominations, but bear in mind, we wont be able to use any of the new maps, as sadly not everyone has them. That rule will be revoked if it turns out all entrants do have the download though.

Yeah, this is purely to increase the competetive aspect of the tournament. No slacking off just because you've won two matches, it doesn't mean you'll win overall.

By reading it over a few times, I can only conclude that you don't have a clue what Curtis and I are on about. The winner is the one who wins the most rounds out of the four matches, so as Curtis said, think of it as 28 rounds as opposed to 4 matches. I'm pretty sure it makes perfect sense.

Hmm, I suppose that sounds fair, although it does give a slight advantage to the player who has their home host first.

I'll be setting a deadline for entrants starting this monday (probably ending on Friday), and we'll have the first matches next weekend.

We don't have to hold all the matches at the same time. Depending on who is available, we'll have as many matches as possible. If people are away, their team matches will be played later.

I should have made it a little clearer before hand. The entire tournament wont be taking place in one day. As it's a ladder system, the matches don't have to be played in any set order, just as long as eventually, everyone plays everyone else. The matches can be played whenever is convenient for the players.

I've recieved confirmation PMs from nearly everyone, so matches can now be set up. I still need to sort out the teamless, but I think it'll be ok, I'm just waiting on the response of some people I've PMed. I'll organize matches now, and can send out PMs to teams accordingly, as well as doing something in the first post.

Only problem I currently have is the lack of hosts, but I'm sure that will be easy enough to sort out.

Ok, there have been further complications with the tournament, so until I can get it sorted out, I'm going to postpone the official start of it. Sorry all, hope to get this sorted out asap. Sadly, I'll be away all next week, so you'll have to wait til the next weekend before I can get anything sorted.

I'm going to try and get a few people to sort some stuff out while I'm gone though. This will happen eventually. Holidays are just a tough time for getting everyone together.

Well, I'll still be happy to run it if enough people are interested still. It will be interesting to see how we all stand up now that we're a little bit rusty. I wont be able to play til late January in any case, so we have plenty of time to stir up interest and get more people involved.
