I don't feel bad when she looses her mum, purely because i always thought her mum was dead, and this just shows were she went - nothing to be sad about.

Don't want to make a pointless post but on Underworld she doesn't get her mother back, this is what she said (or something like it!)
Goodbye, Mother, rest in peace. In that bit Lara and Amanda sort-of-ish-but-not-quite make friends again.

quote Miss Y NagatoTrue, but she does put her mother to rest. As you point out. This is interesting in light of Lara's "This is what it's always been about," line in Nepal in TR:L. Referring to her whole interest in tomb raiding being a part of finding out what happened to her mother. In that respect, this could signal the end of Lara's tomb raiding career. The driving force behind it is gone. quote Miss Y NagatoThat lends even more substance to the idea that Lara has lost interest in archaeology, even as she understands it. Lara and Amanda were in conflict because they were in competition for the same objects. After the end of TR:U this is no longer true. Lara signals this in a couple of ways. Sheathing Excalibur shows she has nothing to gain by fighting Amanda. Lara also drops her notes about the Nepal dais. The ones she made as a child to help find her mother. An almost explicit confirmation that her interest in archeology was based solely on finding her mother. An equally explicit admission that interest is gone now. Lara then picks up the notes she dropped at the start of TR:L. The drawings of the yeti representing her original interests. A pointed hint that Lara is reverting to her childhood, perhaps. But also providing a new way forward for Lara's career, crypto-zoology. This wouldn't really be a new direction for the series. Much of TR:A's interest came from the monsters.
