I just got the game and I agree. They are slightly limited in the variations but I much prefer the realism of what is on offer, so overall I am happy with the weapons set.

AS a rule I am not a huge fan of "realism" in games. However, in a historical game I have to tacitly agree with realism, particularly in the weapons. Maybe its just me, but almost without exception I stay as FAR AWAY from the rifles and handguns and ALWAYS try to make sure that I have two Automatic weapons to toggle between. Maybe I just suck with the rifles, but I much prefer the rat-a-tat of the machine guns to literally ANY of the handguns and rifles. If a level starts me out with anything other than automatic weapons, I get rid of them as soon as possible for some sort of Machine guns. I tend to have the MP-40 and MP-44 a lot.
Oh and speaking of weapons!!! Is it me or is this the FIRST game ever that actually gives us EFFECTIVE smoke grenades?! Man I was very tentative about using them at first, until I saw how insanely effective, not to mention DAMN COOL they are! ------------------- ![]() It's official. I usually have a high-powered rifle with me, either as a sniper or if I run out of ammunition in the middle of a fire-fight. Although I usually have one auto rifle with me, usually the Thopson or the Bren LMG, I try to keep it for as long as possible. If I'm starting to run out of ammo for my gun, I'll wait for one of my allies to die or kill them myself. If not I try to pick up an MP44 rather than the German MP 40 because the rate-of-fire for the 44 is better. But that's just me.

Yeah Chiro the smoke grenades are very effective in this game. I don't agree about the weapons though. Rifles are the most effective weapons in the game. They can be used as sniper rifles if the enemy is at a reasonably close range and are good at mid range battles too. I love the effect and noise generated by a machine gun too but they are not the best weapon. But anyway, that doesn't matter. The fact is we both agree that this is a great game.

I never said that the Machine guns were "better" only that I liked the better and that I am not very good with the rifles.

Well machine-guns are the main gun that I always carry around, it's just that on the harder difficulties you will need to be able to snipe guys from far away because it will be easier and safer than running in. But also the good but unrealistic ability of the machine-gun is that you can snipe guys from afar because your first shot is always dead on. So that something good about it.

quote Chinee Foo Hehehe what I like to do is to go up to the wounded enemies and crack them in the teeth with the butt of whatever weapon I am holding. Fun fun fun! Hey question: Am I the only one that thinks this is one of the best, if not the best, Launch Title for the 360? Because this game seriously rocks! ------------------- ![]() It's official. I am starting to agree with you mate, this game is fantastic. Great graphics, atmosphere, story, everything. It's one of the most intense games I have ever played.

Yeah agreed!
About the only nitpicky issue that I have with the game is that I don't think that Activision gave it quite the graphics boost that they could have or should have, from the last generation ports of the game. I am NOT talking about the buildings and characters here, but a lot of the scenery. Again, I am just being a little picky, but when I see what games like PGR3 did with the backgrounds and the insane detail, I wonder a little bit what Activision was thinking. I noticed the other day that the backgrounds in this game look a little weak. NOT enough for me to take off any points whatsoever from the game, which I still believe is top notch, but just a little. What Iam mostly talking about is the small details like the foliage, grass, weeds and water. These things just look a little bit "last generation" to me. Again, I am definitely being a little finicky here, but its just what I noticed. ------------------- ![]() It's official. I have truly become a babysitter on Neo. During WW2, the automatics were basically just to supress the enemy so that they stay down, so that the riflemen can move up and take them out. I don't know if it's like that at all in the game... Different weapons play different roles.

Chiro, I can see what you mean mate. The graphics have a tendancy to sometimes wow me and other times not impress me at all. But as you said this never takes away from the game and the intensity.

re: -( The Guns )- |
quote BlueFire999No, that was the machine gunners job. See, some people in WWII were issued automatics and some were issued semi-automatics. The job of suppressing fire was for the mortar or machine gun team, with two people in each squad. The MG/M would set up and start to fire, and then the enemy would stick their heads down and you would flank them. If you had an automatic or semiautomatic it didn't make a difference. The only difference would be if there was a WWI set-up where flanking the enemy would be impossible, because when you run across no-mans land you would get shot. ------------------- ![]() quote XaxasLOL What? | |
