Are you talking about the MG42. If i remember right, the B.A.R. had 20 rounds in it's clip.

its a "patrol pack" its just a box that can clip on to the weapon to stop the link flaping around while you are patroling along, they still use the same thing on your m60s and our (brit) gpmgs.

No, that was the machine gunners job.

See, some people in WWII were issued automatics and some were issued semi-automatics. The job of suppressing fire was for the mortar or machine gun team, with two people in each squad. The MG/M would set up and start to fire, and then the enemy would stick their heads down and you would flank them. If you had an automatic or semiautomatic it didn't make a difference. The only difference would be if there was a WWI set-up where flanking the enemy would be impossible, because when you run across no-mans land you would get shot.

Yeah, that's basically it. They used all the weapons for suppressing... even the rifles. An automatic isn't a gun for "close quarters fighting" or whatever that guy said though... it didn't really matter much, the automatics were used like rifles.

I'm pretty sure you don't attach it to your weapon, if you are a machine gunner in WWII then you would have an assistant feeding you the rounds and the assistant would carry around the ammo while you carry around the gun.

And BlueFire, the automatics were used to supress the enemy, although that wasn't their main job. They just happen to have a gun which can supress them, and then the person might take it upon himself to give supressing fire. Although any gun can give supressing fire, even a sniper. In fact they were used a lot in WWII by the Germans and Russians. It's just that the machine gunners were more effective because they had a better rate of fire and amount of ammunition. I mean, wouldn't you be afraid (Or be afraid more) from tons of bullets hitting near you or one or two bullets coming at you?
