Here's a way to defeat anyone in the Gunshop and not have them shoot at you while doing it....

I found 3 people in the Hunter's Shack when I arrived! I thought it was just "Cletus" in there, but there are 3 people in there. I entered and was immediatley met with Gun fire. I couldn't move and died slowly but surely. I entered again, this time staying back by the door. I ran towards the counter in hopes of jumping over it, but was shot dead.

I entered again and ran towards the counter, this time one of the people behind the counter jumped over and was shooting me. I was able to get in one or two sword swings and inflict minimal damage, but died of gun shots.

I then realized that on my way to the Gunshop, while walking along the scaffolding, I picked up a Nailgun. I also netted a few Handguns from Zombie cops that I dropped. I headed back to the Gunshop, entered, walked back out, stood a few feet from the doorway, shot at each person (one at a time) behind the counter. Each one (two of them) "Defected" and ran and hid. One person left (Amanda). I shot at her until she dropped. I entered the Gunshop, found the two other people, shot them and had the Gunshop all to myself!

You're supposed to go into the gun shop, then quickly run back out, they'll stop shooting and one of them will come over to talk to you.

You have to show them a picture of the security room air vent before they'll follow you though.

lol i killed them as well only because they were shooting at me and i thought they were psychos

They aren't worth saving, i think. And they have some good weapons anyways that you might want at the time, rather than waiting to have the supply of shotguns and snipers.

I defeated Cletus on my first attempt!! All I used were 2 Hand guns and 1 Nail gun. What I did was enter the shop, and then immediatley exit the shop,(after the cutscene) clear out the Zombies and stand just to the left of the open door. Cletus never fired and kept walking back and forth behind the counter. I kept my site to the far right of the counter.

Each time Cletus came into view, I shot him over and over. I emptied 2 Hand guns and about half the Nail gun before he dropped.
