Is this game a rental, or a purchase?

Basicly my question to anyone who has the game, is this game worthy of the 60 dollar pricetag? Or is it a game that I could get all of the enjoyment that there is to get within a 3 day rental?

Id like to rent it, but the videostore isnt getting it. I wish I had the money to be able to just buy it and not worry about whether Ill regret it later.

It sounds pretty good, but the reviewers always have a way of making a person second guess when it comes down to making the decision to buy or not to buy.

Basicly, how much fun is the game, does it get repetetive or boring, and is the replay value good enough to warrant 60 bucks.

Anyone who can help, id appreciate it.

re: Is this game a rental, or a purchase?

This game is most deffinetly worth a buy. I'll be getting my copy tomarrow.

If you read some infromation on the game, you will notice that it is worth $60. There is just so much you can do, that the game will never get old, and you will never get bored from it. An endless seeming mall, packed with thousands of zombies, and being able to use anything as a weapon for your disposal, is what I consider worth $60. ^^

re: Is this game a rental, or a purchase?

I appreciate the input and everything Jak, but I was kinda needing a more "hands on" perspective.

See, you tell me the game is worth the 60 bucks, yet you dont have it in your possession yet and are probably basing your opinion off of reviews and possibly a demo. Im sure you think the game is going to be worth the cash, but I need to be sure.

Ive read the stuff thats out there in regard to reviews, and a lot of the time the game just doesnt live up to the billing. And I can say from personal experience that there is not a game, nor will there ever be a game made that will not get old at some point. Eventually you will do everything and see everything, and often times it happens much sooner than the hype would make you think.

What Im needing is some information from someone who has sat down with the final version of the game and can give a user review on how the game actually is, and what the fun factor is as opposed to how frustrating some of the flaws are. The IGN review is helpful to a point, but as with all these reviews, they do just enough to keep a guy on the fence.

They say how great the game is one second and then turn right around and say how this, this, and this really tarnishes the experience and keeps it from being really good. By the end of it, you never know what to think.

They never do just come right out and say "Hey, get this game. This game is a complete blast to play, and even though this is kinda irritating, its nothing that will keep you from having fun."

They always go back and forth so you never know. Thats why I value user reviews so much more than people who are paid to review them. The user has nothing to gain when writing the review, and is guaranteed to be a fan of the base material. Often times reviewers who dont even like the base material will get stuck with a game to review and give a completely different opinion than what someone who likes that type of game would give.

Not trying to sound like a dick or anything, like I said I appreciate the response, im just needing some information from someone who owns the game and has played the final version and can give an accurate description of what it has to offer.

Theres like 3 games coming out that Im debating over, but I can only afford one, so this type of information is critical, especially given the fact that Im unable to rent it and see for myself.

the only bad thing about the game is the save. i hear its really bad saveing thing. but thats all thats really bad about this game. me, i dont care about saves at all. all i do is just overite my saves in every game i get, but yea a lot of people take theres games very serious and saving is very important to them. but yea if u get the game dont worry bout that because this game is very great.

re: Is this game a rental, or a purchase?

So what about the "forced storyline" thing?

I was reading in there that you would really want to go off and check out the environment, but the game would rush you through the story and it was a possibility that you could end up messing up the storyline or something if you didnt do everything exactly as it said.

It sounds kinda lame right there. If anyone can clarify what IGN is talking about in regard to that, Id really appreciate it. I dont want to be off checking out the sporting goods store for something I could turn into a really sweet weapon, and then find out that Ive screwed myself out of a key moment in the story by taking too much time or something.

re: Is this game a rental, or a purchase?

You will have to do everything in the story mode pretty fast, and get it done, if not, then things could turn into mayhem.
Although, if you beat the game with the "Truth" ending (don't know how to get it just yet) then you will unlock "Infinite Mode" In which you can explore the mall at your own pace, with no time limit.
A survival mode also comes to play in the game.

You have about 3 to 7 hours (time hasn't officially been confirmed yet) to get as far as you can in the story mode, and be ready for the helicopter to pick you up in the end.

re: Is this game a rental, or a purchase?

Man. I just read EVERY SINGLE PRO REVIEW that neoseeker has to offer. My eyes are killin me.

The rushed story sounds like a MAJOR flaw. What happens is that if you go off on a SIDE mission to gain extra points or whatever, or say youre photographing things or looking for new weaponry and you miss your opportunity to get to the next CASE FILE mission on time, THE STORY ENDS. No possible way to continue the story. I guess youre just stuck in that mall for the equivalent of however many game days you had left, and then it will end.

If you accidentally save at a point where you cannot possibly make it to the CASE FILE mission on time, youre totally screwed. Your only option is to save your current character level progress, and restart the ENTIRE story mode over.

That seems like a pretty hefty penalty for missing your mission window right there. Especially when it takes 7 hours to get throught the story. Say youre right toward the end and you mess up and have to start over. That would really, I mean REALLY piss me off.

Sure, your level upgrades you can keep and it will be easy to get back there, but I shouldnt have to spend another 7 hours to get back to that spot simply because I missed a deadline while trying to do other missions that the game has to offer me.

Thats like saying "Yeah, we got side missions, but you risk losing ALL of your main story progress if you do them and it takes too long to get to your main mission point on time." I find that really inexcusable right there. That will pretty much make people paranoid when playing the side missions, always worrying if they will have enough time to actually go off and have some fun without losing all of their work in the main story.

I may just have to wait and rent this one, if and when the video store ever decides to get it. That seems to me like a pretty big flaw in the game right there. Anything that can cost me every bit of my game progress, I tend to frown on that sort of thing.

I dont really have a lot of time to spend playing these games, so while 7 hours may not seem like much to the gamer who sits in front of his tv for 14 hours a day, its a considerable amount of time for someone like me to just have go down the drain because of a poorly designed mission system.

re: Is this game a rental, or a purchase?

I played the game enough yesterday to know that it is one of the hardest games out there (worse than Resident Evil 4 )
I mean, yah of course it's fun killing zombies, but you die way too fast, you fail missions way to easily, it takes way too much effort to get Overtime mode and Infinite mode. Rescuing survivors is a huge hastle, as if you don't rescue all 50, you will never get the best ending. (which unlocks overtime mode) Saving completely sucks, and it is just way to hard to get away from zombies when there are over 600 on your screen coming right after you.
Also the fact that if your not on time to a case file, or you die, you start all over from your last save, and the bosses are just way to hard to even want to try and beat.
The only thing I find fun out of this game is killing zombies, and the storyline. I wish you didn't have to keep saving those damn survivors!

And did I forget to mention you don't even have time to explore the mall on your own pace, and go off and do things on your own? It's strictly put down on solving case files, and rescuing survivors. Sure you can explore the mall once you spend all your time beating the story mode, and overtime mode (which is 4 extra days) but even when you get to play through infinite mode, it's really only a survival game. Your health depletes all the time, and there are way too many zombies to even go around the mall and explore. All in all this game deserves a nice little 7/10.

You just have to complete all the cases and get to the helipad on time to unlock infinite mode. The side missions arn't necessary.

Oh and if you thought Resident evil 4 was hard then it probably is as simple as iceman said. You just suck.

Personally i think i will be renting this game. To me it is a slower but more gory version of Dynasty Warriors or N3. I imagine it would get kinda boring.

Iceman and Bumpy trot, if all you have to contribute is trying to put down another member, you need to find another board to occupy your time.

Jak's post was EXACTLY what I was looking for. Something that is posted by an actual game owner, that is not sugar coated for the sole purpose of getting people to buy it.

And Iceman and Bumpy, Im sure that you two are just absolute gaming gods whose skills are unmatched. Not everyone will be at your skill level that plays this game. Its a real shame that you put so much effort into putting other people down, and none into using common sense.

For people who have less time to play games and whose skills are not as refined, Jak's information is very solid. So why dont you two just go back to your perfect little gaming world and leave the rest of us in peace if derrogatory remarks are all you have to offer.

Thanks for the info Jak, its good to finally get a post from the other side of the spectrum that goes into some of the more frustrating aspects of the game. I knew that save system sounded awful, but the infinite mode constantly taking away your life as well, that just sucks. What the hell kind of a reward is that. So basicly there is no unrestricted free-roaming at all in the game. Thats pretty disappointing.

There is unrestricted free roaming. But you should really do it in infinite mode.

But in infinite mode, you always lose your health every once in a while. Items are not even in their correct locations. A few weapons and food items are just scattered around. It's hard to have fun free-roaming in infinite mode if you have to watch your health all the time.
