I don't think there is any plausible comparison between the two games. They're both of different genres, and have completely different storylines and gameplay styles. Simply because both games are set in the space-age future doesn't mean they need to be scrutinized for their similarities. You may aswell compare Mass Effect to the other two dozen future-based games going around.
