Ragnarok Online Forum: Topic Locator and FAQ
Hopefully this will make it a little easier to find the information you are looking for. (Updated regularly) Getting Started Where do I download this game/register for a free account? From theGravity Corp. Website or Ragnarok Online Website. Is this game really free? Yes, at the moment. The game is in the beta stage, and Gravity Corp. is conducting an open beta-test at the moment, which means everyone who holds an account is a beta tester, and may play the game for free as long as it is still in this phase. Once the game releases, there will most probably be fees. Since you are beta-testers, do what you can and report any and all bugs to english@ragnarok.co.kr, that's what we're here for. It's the least you can do for being able to play this amazing game for free. Help! I'm having trouble installing the game/registering an account! You can try checking out the Ragnarok Online Website's FAQ for your problem by clicking here and going to Helpdesk > FAQ. Also refer to the Installing Problems or Troubleshooting threads to see if your problem can be solved therein, or finally either post your question in one of those threads or PM/Email me for a response. We'll do our best to get you playing quickly. The game file is a very large(200+MB!) download. Any way to remedy this? Unfortunately not that we know of. You can get a program that will let you resume downloads, so you can download the file little by little at your own leisure, or to continue downloading from where you stopped in case there was an interruption. GetRight is one such program. You can get this program here. I may be putting the setup file on CD and sending it to some people who have just tried everything and it has not worked. This will be done sparingly tho, since it costs money to ship and for the blank CD. Only in dire circumstances. ~_^ Character Creation Which server should I create my character on? We are all [mostly] on the Loki server, so if you plan on joining up with us, start there. Check out the User Listing for Neoseeker member names. Why can't I change my character's job? All new players will start out as the Novice job. You can change jobs in game once you reach Base Level 9 for most (all?) jobs. Why can't I change my character's sex? You are forced to play as the sex of character you picked when you registered. The only way around this is to register another account. Gravity Corp. frowns upon this, however... and if you are caught you could be banned. How should I allocate my character's stats? Take a look at Dist's suggestions in his informative Newbie Guide thread. Basic Commands / Passive Skills Why can't I sit, use emotions, etc.? You have to level up and have a certain number of skill points in your Basic Skills to perform some of these. Here is a list of those which are confirmed: Basic Skills Lvl. 1 - Able to use trade menu Basic Skills Lvl. 2 - Use emotions [alt + number] Basic Skills Lvl. 3 - Able to sit [insert key] Basic Skills Lvl. 4 - Able to open chat [chat button] Basic Skills Lvl. 5 - Able to join existing parties Basic Skills Lvl. 6 - Able to access Kapra Staff storage [30z each access] Basic Skills Lvl. 7 - Able to create own party [friend/party button] Basic Skills Lvl. 8 - PK skills [to be implemented] Basic Skills Lvl. 9 - Congratulations! You can now choose a job! How do I do emotions, and which ones are there? There are two ways to do Emotions. One way is to hold down the Alt key and press a number, you will get a different Emotion for each one. There are a few symbols on the NumPad that this also works with such as the "+" and "-" symbols. The other way is to type them in via command. For example, by typing /!, you will get the exclamation emotion. <I will update this section with an Emotion list later on today.> How do I sit? First, you must have 3 levels into your Basic Skills. Then, you can either type /sit into your chat box or use your Insert key to toggle between sitting/standing. How can I talk to another player if they aren't nearby? (How to Whisper) To the left of your chat box, there is a smaller box. Type the name of the player you wish to speak to in there, (case sensitive!) then type a message into the chat box as you would normally. As long as the character's name is in that box, you will be speaking to him/her. This is called whispering. If you need to speak normally, you will have to remove the name from the box. Also, if you are whispering to multiple players, the button next to that box will have a pull-down menu to make it easier to switch between recipients. Travelling How do I get to a city? When you first start the game, follow the bridge East. You will come upon three teleporters that will transport you to the three starting cities. The left portal is to Morroc, the middle portal to Payon, and the right portal leads to Prontera. Where can I fight to level up in the lower levels? Follow the directions I posted under this thread to get you to the south Prontera Field hunting grounds. There is also a good newbie hunting ground in the Dessert, an area one screen north of Morroc city. Where's the Armor shop, etc.? Use this thread to view a map of the Capital city Prontera, and most of it's shops/merchants. More cities to come soon. How do I get to the guild to change my job class? First of all before you make your trek, make sure you are Base Level 9. You will find the locations in which they are all located within Dist's Newbie Guide once again, as well as more specific info on Acolyte and Swordman guilds by taking a look at the Prontera Map. After visiting the Sanctuary, you will have to complete a small quest which involves finding a certain friar before you can become an Acolyte. Please refer to this thread on directions to finding the place. You can find the Archer's Guild by going to Payon city, taking the northeastern teleporter to the next area, then entering the building in that area's NE corner. You can find the Thieves' Guild by going to Morroc city, taking the NW teleporter, and entering the pyramid in that area. Monsters will attack you on sight here, so you must find the teleporter that will take you to the Thieves' Guild while fleeing from monsters. The teleporter is somewhere to the North-west. The area is like a maze, so be careful. ~_^ Here is a map of the Pyramid from ro.pak0.com. The Thieves' Den is marked on the map. How do I travel between cities? You can find the teleporter in your town and pay some hefty zenny to get to your location, or you can try taking the trip on foot. Here is the map layout of Rune-Midgard, from ro.pak0.com. Someone got to the maps before me! Oh well. Troubleshooting Please browse the following threads: Troubleshooting thread Installing problems If you cannot find help there please feel free to post a question or PM/Email me. We are always willing to help. Edit: Finished off the passive skills chart using information from the official site and changed a few typos -Jeevan This message was edited by Jeevan(moderator) on May 02 2002.

quote Riot76ADYou can't forget the granddaddy newbie grounds of them all, Geffen Field. About one screen away from Geffen. Take two screens west, one screen north, and two screens west from Pronera. This message was edited by Akira_EX on Apr 23 2002. -------------------

Yea, the Greffen hunting ground is really good for newbies (low lvl novices) but a higher lvl novice will have trouble there, due to there only being porings and other low exp creatures.

Geffen field can be a problem due to high amounts of lag, so if you've got a low-end comp or a slow modem, try to avoid that place. Good places for bad-comp users are south Prontera field, the desert, or west Prontera field.
Oh, and BTW - You only have to have put 9 job points into basic skills in order to change class, your base level dosn't matter. Although for some people this seems to be different? Very odd, indeed. I'll get back to you on this.

Have you allotted your skills?
1. Alt-S to open up skill window 2. press the level up button thingy next to basic skills until you can't level it up anymore. Sometimes when you open your skill menu it will be blank. This is a glitch. If this happens, hit esc and re-select your character until you can see it again. Annoying, I know. If this doesn't help, we'll see what else we can think of. Good luck.

Thanks for the response, riot. =^)
Yeah, I've been alotting my skills the whole way. I played the alpha a few months back and everything was fine. I'm up to base level 8 and skill level 9. With everything alotted out. I even totally wiped it off my comp, re downloaded, reinstalled and created a new character from a brand new registration with a totally different name, but it's doing the same thing. I got a bunch of people to play and I can't even talk to them or form a party with them. I'm on the chaos server...do you think that makes a difference? Thanks again.

It shouldn't really make a difference, I would think... but your problem sounds pretty serious.
