Granular limit error |
|
I've been playing on duke3d and i never can get to the end of it. Not because it's too hard. Because of those blasted granular errors that make the game crash. They seem to happen in specific spots. I can list some of them.
1. While going down the sewers in red light district. 2. Going through the second door on Incubator. 3. The very beginning of every level of episode 2(excluding the first 2 maps) 4.The very end of bank roll. 5. the start spot of e1m5(first boss) 6. Going outside on death row. They are kind of weird. you are just plain' and all of the sudden you see a bunch of DOS text that says something like Page, granular byte= ffffff page, granular Granular limit error Crash address=unrelocatedThe last line of it scares me. It says on the troubleshooting to lower the dram speed.Dad says it could be dangerous to go into CMOS. Does anybody know what causes these, what each of the lines of the error message means, and if there is an alternative to fixing this? It runs just fine on a much slower computer. ------------------- this signature never ends ------------------- this signature never ends ------------------- this signature never ends ------------------- Never mind

Hmm, I'm not sure, if it's good idea to use dosbox in this case. On my 1.7 Ghz 512 RAM I can't run Duke Nukem 3d like it runs in "normal" way. It needs a lot of memory maybe. I extended the memory in Dosbox and the result was terrible with sound that was actually missing the actions. Is this a problem with computer? Is there any other way to fix it? Can I simply run duke in MS-DOS on my second computer with winXP? I know i can but my point is, if it can be run in DOS with a normal digitized sound and music effects.
Oh and just one more thing. In which level plays the music song "Ah, Geez"?

Just use JFDuke3D, it is a source port that does what source ports do, run old games on newer computers. Don't result to DosBox unless you have a badass machine. JFDuke3D adds better rendering and options to have 3D models so you can give the game a modern look.
