Putting ps2 save files onto ps3

Okay, so maybe I'm stupid, but this just won't work for me. My ps3 doesn't have slots for memory cards from the ps2/psone. So I bought a datamax ps2 memory card reader so that I can put my previously saved ps2 files onto the ps3. I plug it in to the cord used to charge the controller, and nothing happens. I've created an internal memory card, and it says there's nothing on it. I have no idea what to do or how to get the data onto my ps3. If someone could walk me through step by step like I'm a complete moron I would really appreciate it.

re: Putting ps2 save files onto ps3

There is no were on the PS3 to put a memory card in, you need to buy an adapter.

re: Putting ps2 save files onto ps3

Well I thought that was what I had, the data max thing, cuz the mem card attaches to that and that attaches to the controller cord. That's not what I need?

This is what I have.

re: Putting ps2 save files onto ps3

Your link doesn't work.

But if you mean this, it should work.

You just put it in and copy and the saved data.

But ive never done it so im not sure.

Read the reviews down on that page. There are user reviews that might be handy...

re: Putting ps2 save files onto ps3

The only help i could find from the manufacturer is

"A: First, connect your PS2 memory card to the Data Max, and then the device to a free USB port on your PS3 using the cable normally used for connecting your controller to the console. Power on your PS3, and you should find the PS2 memory card recognized under the Game Data option of the main menu. Select the memory card and choose to copy the data to your PS3 system, following the onscreen prompts. The PS3 will create a virtual memory card containing your saves on the PS3 hard drive."

re: Putting ps2 save files onto ps3

I fixed it now, hopefully. I looked at your link, it's a different brand, but I suppose the same thing. I have no idea why it's not working. I even went to the ps2 store and downloaded the ps2 system data, not even sure if I needed that. But still nothing. Thanks, though.

I've looked at several different web sites and it just says you just plug it in and that's all. I don't know why it's not working for me.

There's SD slots and like 10 USB ports but no memory card slots?

re: Putting ps2 save files onto ps3

1) Get an official Memory Card Adapter.

2) Plug it in your PS3.

3) Transfer saves from Memory Card to Internal Memory Card.

re: Putting ps2 save files onto ps3

Like i said, look at the user reviews on the page you posted. The solution to your problem is there. Oh, what the heck...

Here:
quote D.Owen @ amazon
I recently upgraded from a PS2 to a PS3, but wanted to carry on playing FF12, so bought this device to transfer my game saves across. First time I plugged it in, the power light came on but the PS3 didn't detect my PS2 memory cards, I figured it must just be a duff product as I had read other reviews saying it was a waste of money.

However, before I packed it up and sent it back, I tried it again and it worked perfectly, the only thing I did different was plug it in to the bottom USB port, previously I'd had it in one of the others. Now I don't know if it will only work in this one port, but it did and I've saved all the info from the PS2 cards (some data like setup info which is copy protected won't transfer, but all the actual game saves went across ok).

I only had Sony PS2 8mb cards so I didn't need to use the PC based software to transfer off anything bigger.
By bottom usb port he means the one on the left, if your PS3 is in horizontal position.

I have that one as well and at first it didn't seem to work. But it ended up working.

Plug the USB cord into the PS3, then plug the other end into the mc adapter and plug a memory card into the mc adapter and make sure the light on the mc adapter flashes on and off.

Then go to game and select Memory Cars Utility (PS/PS2) and the first memory card (Memory Card (PS2)) will be your actual memory card. Then just press triangle and select copy.

Now if you want to transfer PS1 saves to the PS3 you'll have to put a PS2 memory Card and a PS1 Memory Card into a PS2 and transfer your PS1 saves to the PS2 memory card and then transfer the PS1 saves from your PS2 MC onto the PS3 the same way you did with the PS2 saves.

Yes, because you don't need the PS2 memory cards. The PS3 saves everything to the hard drive. Even when you get the adapter to transfere the saves all it does is create a fake card on the hard drive and copy everything there.

Which kind of makes the adapter a waste of $15 since you only use it once. But whatever.

re: Putting ps2 save files onto ps3

Well it depends on the situation...

I've used mine a couple of times because I keep my PS2 with me, and in the unfortunate event that my brother hogs the PS3, I'll keep the PS2 with the data I have from playing on the PS3.

But if you have games on your PS2 that have almost 400hours of gameplay and you want to put the saves on your PS3 it's a lifesaver

re: Putting ps2 save files onto ps3

I did try it in all the ports with no luck. I got frustrated and gave up, so I'll try it again later, and if it still doesn't work, I'll just get the official one.

I did read the reviews on amazon, plus several others from different websites. Some people say it doesn't work at all, or it worked after a few tries, and some said it corrupted their save files. So we'll see how it goes next time I try it. Thanks.
