hello all, merry (almost) christmas.
for videos on the PS3, what file types does it support?
all the music from i bought from WMP,ITUNES and Limewire work, but when i tried a short christmas movie (the year without a santa clause) with a couple different file types, they either didnt show up when i "Displayed all Data" on my CF card (used for transferring PC - PS3 ) or it shows as "Unsupported Data"
can anyone shine some light on this?

Currently the PS3 supports .mp4 files as well as divx videos (usually .avi, but I can't guarantee that it supports all .avi files, but you should try that). You'll need the latest update for that as well (v2.10).

The .avi videos that I have tried have all worked, so I'd think it's just the file type that your using that isn't compatible. Unsupported data really just means incorrect file type.

Not too sure if there are any other file types that it supports, but if you can make it .avi, it'll be your best bet to work.

I've heard that XviD (.avi) work as well; I have yet to confirm this, though.

Yup, as mentioned above, .avi does indeed work, in fact if you download any programs legally *cough* you can put them onto your PS3 and actually watch them (no more need to turn them into dvd format to watch on your tv, just transfer to your PS3 and wallah).

Some avi files don't work. I tried some and it said it was unsupported. But I think most of them work.

I am using a mini-sd card to transfer my files from PC to PS3. It does not work. What am I missing?? (ALl files are DIVX, AVI, or Mp4)

Can you see the files at all, or does it say unsupported data? If it's the first then you need to press triangle at the sign for the memory stick and then go to "Display All". You can now browse the files on the cd's that are Images/Music/Videos (depending on what part of the XMB your on). If it says Unsupported Data it means that you can't view that file on the PS3 yet and may become available (as .avi files have become) via an update later on.

Yay I found my photo's. Thanks for the help. Couldnt find my Video, but I suspect it is a format issue.

i downloaded it in the AVI format but it says its unsupported data >.<

The problem is that you must not have used a divx codec to convert it, not sure how to go about doing this to be honest, since most of my files are already in this format, but I'm sure you can find a divx converter somewhere...
