Alright, my girlfriend and her mom are getting on me and her brother about gaming being the cause of the high electric bills recently. I know I read somewhere that playing a PS3 for 8 hours a day would only cost $3-$4 a month with the average energy costs in the US, and we don't play nearly that much, maybe 6 hours a day at most.

Anyway, if they start telling us to cut back on the gaming to help on the electric bill, I'd like to be able to cite some statistics on the PS3's power consumption. Does anybody know of a site with such information?

I know why the electric bill is high. It's because it takes a hell of a lot of electricity to cool a house in south Texas during the summer when tempuratures are routinely in the high 90s and 100s. That and electricity rates went up recently. Her mom is comparing the bill for June when it's really hot with the bills from February/March when it's relatively cool outside and complaining that it's too high, and since My PS3 and TV were moved over here in the past month she thinks that's the cause.

What I need are numbers on power usage so I can back up my claims that the PS3 uses a relatively small amount of energy.

Doesn't it have this stuff in the manual? Or on the plug or something? You could call technical support or something.

Lol you will be shocked to know that ps3 guzzles up quite alot of power im afraid.... But do what krunal said.

Thats kinda cheap right? for leaving your PS3 on for a week non-stop?(I don't really know since I don't live in the US) but $4.75 is about £2.30

there was an article on game grep a while back on this. it said the ps3 uses about as much power as an energy saver fridge. if i was you i would just give them an extra 20 bucks a month to shut them the hell up.

If you want to save on electricty bill, don't use things like an airconditioner(or heater in cold places), washing machines, dish washers. These things are huge electricty eaters. Like a heater i use to use uses 1200Watts and i used to use it for like hours. Now i don't use it, i just wear an extra jumper. I did notice a difference in my bills when i ditch the heater. The ps3 doesn't consume much power at all compared to the heater i used.
