re: MAG |
quote SomethingWackyIm thinking this too. I personally had mixed feelings when i heard that Resistance 2 will have 60 online players, let alone 256 or whatever it is!!! I think having all these will make every game practically the same, especially if it follows the defend-attack set up like Battlefield does. Because the chances are that the majority of the 128 players on the team will do exactly the same as the previous team because theres so many of them, they are bound to do the same. Would get repetitive me thinks. And in Battlefield, if there were that amount of people on it, can you imagine trying to fly a chopper or use that bombing machine? It would simply be impossible. Then again, if the map was a lot bigger then maybe. We'll just have to wait and see how big the maps will be on MAG ------------------- ![]() ~ Fit to Burn ~

You really think that 256 individual humans are going to react in the same way? I seriously doubt that. Certainly there will be strategies that become frequently used because they work. But as with everything sooner or later someone is going to figure out how to break through these strategies. And that's what will keep the game exciting. Humans constantly reacting to and learning from their mistakes and successes.

They said they are going to put people in squads. Will this mean I won't really feel like I'm playing with 255 other people or is going to be like BF 2 and not really mean anything?

quote KolothWell there will only be a certain amount of strategies and different paths to use so the chances are that method X will be used every game considering how many players there are. Someones bound to do it. If you know what i mean. ------------------- ![]() ~ Fit to Burn ~

You assume to much. The number of strategies is only limited by the players. If you're strategically minded you wouldn't keep trying the same thing over and over even if it does work. Eventually someone will figure out how to beat it. You not only have to do what works but keep your enemy on his toes. If I know you set up a sniper position in building X every time I'm going to avoid building X. Or I might not avoid it I might send in a team to attack it and take out the snipers nest which I can then use to my own advantage.
Yes the terrain will limit some strategies. And some that work one time won't work another. Your thinking is far to limited Legend. The way I see it the fact that you have so many human players all with different plans and reactions to situations opens up a huge avenue for inventiveness. It will create a unique scenario almost every time. ------------------- ![]() Education Forum|Books & Literature My Brute

Koloth, you're right for the most part. In games like Call of Duty, you learn the best camping spots, where the best places are for claymores, etc. And while this will be true for MAG, it will be impossible to formulate elaborate strategies with 127 other teammates.

I agree with you on most of it but i meant like theres so many people, theres bound to be someone using the certain camping spot etc. Theres bound to be. Out of 127 people the chances are that someone will be doing it. Its like that for CoD4, even with just 6 or 8 people on the team.
Say, if theres a little short cut alley. You know full well there will be someone there at the start of the game. ------------------- ![]() ~ Fit to Burn ~

Well no doubt there will be unimaginative people. But you have to be the one that's different then. You have to go out and do things different from the way you always do them. And then it doens't matter what the other 127 are doing because your game will feel so different that it won't matter how repetative they get.
Besides it's not like repetition is necessarily a bad thing really. We played MGS4 over and over and over again. ANd the battles wer always the same and characters were always in the same place. But you could completely change the feel of te game by playing it differently. The first time through I played to see the story. The second time I played to try a harder difficulty. The third I went for perfect stealth to get the stealth suit. Now the fourth I'm going for no kills. I'm also enjoying holding peole up. Even though the game itself never changes my gameplay changes a lot because I change my tactics. ------------------- ![]() Education Forum|Books & Literature My Brute

Meh. Suppose your right there, But online is different to story mode though.
We'll just have to wait and see what this is like Sounds pretty good to me but im just curious as to whether having so many people in one game is such a good idea. Would work if the map was unbelievably big but then that could also ruin the fun factor. Theres only one way to find out! ------------------- ![]() ~ Fit to Burn ~

This was my problem, I think Warhawk size maps would work very well. For 256 players, that would be like having 18 players in a COD4 size arena.

quote halomessenger322It should be like you're actually in a war. Most armies have different squads with different duties and objectives. There's never a good, tactically planned assault that deals with 100 people running at 100 people. ------------------- ![]()

After seeing the planes though I wonder if you'll be able to take control and fly them because they have real players in them, so wouldn't it be smart if you had real people flying them? You could better coordinate strikes and have different strategies.

It may be a long shot but maybe you could have randomly generated maps? That could mix things up abit.
But it may cause slight problems with map glitches Etc. But the map could be split up into say 20 blocks and each time a game is started the computer re-organizes the blocks so the map is different. Of course you can still have set maps. ------------------- ![]()

The game looks brilliant, what about destructable environments, vehicles will these be substituted with more players because I would not want that. This game looks like it should have squads who are organised, well positioined defenders/attackers with strategies, I wonder how that will happen because it's near immpossible to communicate using headsets.
