What's the best 24-30" LCD for a PS3?
|
I was originally thinking of getting an HDTV 40-50" but I believe I'll get a better bang for my buck to get an LCD which I can use for both my PC and PS3.
The problem is, I know absolutely nothing about LCD's, HDCP, and all the other little bits that would make this work.
As well as finding out what LCD would work best I would also like to understand what it takes for an LCD to properly work with the PS3. I've read things like 1:1 pixel mapping for best performance from the PS3, otherwise picture output can be rather laggy.
Being that this will serve as both my PC monitor as well as for my PS3 I would like to know how I would go about switching between the two. I would like the most convenient way as possible (something like a KVM switch).
Also, what might I be able to do for sound for the PS3? Something that works for both the PC and the PS3 would be ideal but not required. I already have a cheap $15 set of speakers which work fine for my PC needs but I would like something a bit more robust for the PS3 and any HD movie watching I may be doing.
I've heard that some TFT monitors cannot play DVD's from the PS3 because of the lower output resolution. I'm not worried about this aspect since the monitor would also be hooked up to my PC and I feel the PC is superior for DVD playback anyways.
PC Specs just in case: CPU: Intel Core 2 4200 Video: ATI Palit HD 4850 RAM: 2GB DDR2 Mobo: ASUS P5N32-E SLI Plus OS: Win XP Pro
As for a budget I'm hoping to stay within the $1000-1500 range for the LCD, $150-200 for the speakers. Overall within the $2000-2500 range total.

Man, for that budget you can score a "37 or "32 easily. I know that Sharp has a 1080p 32" monitor that you can use with your PS3 and PC. Also, Westinghouse has a 37" that you can get for less than $1000 online. And it's a 1080p. I myself use my 40" Sony for PC, PS3 and 360. I got it at Best Buy for less than $1300.
Go big. You won't regret it. I had my PC, ps3 and 360 running off a 24" Gateway PC monitor and it was cool for the first month or so, but when I scored the 40" it made it look like a midget.
You can get 1080p Monitors these days with your budget. And for speakers, get yourself some good headphones. Unless you don't like using headphones, a good pair of headphones are great.

hmm, I've never heard of Westinghouse before. I'd probably go for speakers, I have a set of Sennheiser headphones that I use.

I can't remember the Company that does Westinghouse, but they're pretty good. I have a 37" 1080p from them that I bought a while back. Only thing is that my daughter messed it up. She literally smashed it up. But it looked good. Look it up.
But really. Get yourself the biggest you can with the amount that you have. Even though those 22" - 30" look great, in the long run you'll end up wanting bigger. So save yourself the headache now. Especially on how bad the economy is right now, I'm sure the tv's will drop in price soon. If not, shop around on the net.
Look up Samsung's 32" 1080p Gaming monitor. That's the one I mentioned before.
