20gb vs. 60gb |
|
Alright so, I've decided I want to buy a PS3. And after Koloth was nice enough to educate me on numerous things regarding the PS3, I found out that as time goes by the consoles in production get worse. So because I want the best model I'll have to deal with price gouging on Ebay (gosh, thanks Sony).
I've already ordered a 320gb PS3-compatible hard drive, so the size of the hard drive the PS3 comes with is a non-factor. With all of that in mind, is it worth it to buy a 60gb just for the Wi-Fi and Flash Reader capabilities? I'd guess not, but I just find it so bizaro that I am choosing the first version of the console made over all the others. This is the complete opposite of what I had to do with the 360 (i.e. deliberately find one with an HDMI port so I got the latest chipset). The price difference seems to range from $100 to $150.

It really depends how far your Router is from where your going to keep your PS3. If it's not anywhere near, then your really going to need the Wi-Fi. As for Flash Reader, that's not really a "needed" thing, since you can just get an adapter.

My current situation is that the router is in my room, so the Wi-Fi isn't that big of a deal I guess. But in the future I'm likely to have roomies in some different living situation so who knows how far the router could be then.
But also, the Wi-Fi allows for PSP connectivity, right? Though I'm not sure how valuable of a thing that is to factor in.

The 60gb has everything you may need or want. No need for add ons.
I would get the 60gb, but thats me. ------------------- ![]() Your PS3 so big... me play you long time!

quote 12th CylinderAnd will cost more, I sold mine, which I got on release date, for £305 ($562) And that was over 2 years old! I'd say go for the 40 or 80 (don't know anything about the 20) or even better, buy one off someone without a hard drive! ------------------- ![]()

quote SkaresHe specifically said he wants one of the launch models, aka the 20 or 60 gig ones. I'd say go 60. If you get the 20, there's always the chance you'll regret it.

Aye, I want the backwards compatibility, so those two models are the best choices. Thanks for the suggestion though. :]
I think I'll just fork out the extra mulah for a 60gb. I heard you can use the default hard drive for other things anyway, so the extra space won't go completely wasted. Plus I won't have to run another damn ethernet cable through my room.

In all honesty I would go 60gb because 20's are hard to find because barely any were made, and they are ugly because they are solid black. they don't have the chrome strip on them.

Well not only that, but the data will really be a problem. I only have like 7 games, or less, and my 40g has about 25g gone. Also, the 60g has those slots for your SD card. So you can have extra memory. And I can bet the 60g wi-fi connection is better thn the 20g.

re: 20gb vs. 60gb |

Well, I already bought a 320gb drive to replace whatever drive I get, so the size doesn't matter. And actually, I see quite a few 20gbs on Ebay. But the one in particular that I wanted (refurbished, came with free stuff) ended up getting sold out, so I took that as a sign and went and got the 60gb instead. :]
Now to go out and prepare. GAMES! ACCESSORIES! Hoho~
