[ PS3 Feature Awareness ] Text Chats |
|
Hi guys, I've made a blog aboutt Text Chats, which I think you all may find interesting and enlightening, especially since as far as I know, none of you guys actually make use of it.
So be sure to read it, and if you like it, rate it. ------------------- ![]()

I used to use it during my Burnout Paradise sessions, but after that people stopped using it. I think the novelty wore off when having to pause and open the XMB to type got in the way. That and people wanted voice chat instead of text.

The thing is, without Voice Chat (which I've realised as to exactly what we're missing out on) that people, to send messages don't use Text Chats, but instead send Messages. They actually go to the member that they want to send it to, press triangle, select 'Start New Chat' and edit the Title and send just that with no message body. What they don't realise is that Sending Message via Text Chats is much MUCH better suited for what they want to do, since it does the exact same thing, but in a much easier to use, much easier to type, and much easier to view fashion.

I really do hate it when people send just a title; cause half the time I pause to go read it, only to find there's nothing in it and I just wasted twenty seconds of my time (not that that's a huge loss or anything, but it's still annoying).
That being said, sending messages (not via chat, just the normal email-type messages) can cover a lot more ground in information, and you can read it all at once. Of course, the downside is that you have to take more time to reply to that message. I suppose I agree that text messaging via text chat is more convenient; however, it's still inconvenient to have to pause and open the chat screen and type something in. If people aren't using it, it's either because they have no interest to begin with, or they're just lazy. And yes, I do plan on using this font size in my posts from now on... ------------------- quote Ace Combat 4 Shattered SkiesThe Scapegoat of Neoseeker

It's really something they should use instead of the 'Subject only' messages that people (always) seem to send.
Thing is, going to a chat is much quicker, and doesn't waste the 20 seconds that it does to go and try to read a message, especially when they've sent multiple messages, since it'll all appear on your screen anyway, so unless you want to respond, you don't even need to go to check the contents, since it's already appear on your screen. ------------------- ![]()

Well that's ultimately true, but who ever carries on a one-way conversation online lol? I suppose it purely depends on the game you play; if you're playing something like Oblivion whilst chatting, it doesn't bother you too much to stop every once in a while to add to the conversation. But I can see text chat as being obtrusive when you're playing a racing game; nothing breaks up the experience better than having to pause the race every so often.
I guess what I'm saying is that peoples' frequency of use of the text chat feature varies depending on what game they play. ------------------- quote Ace Combat 4 Shattered SkiesThe Scapegoat of Neoseeker

text chat rules especially if you dnt have a mic like me, its really so much faster then the scrolling everytime you got a message.
What annoys me is when a person uses traditionl text and types just in the subject box over and over then they'll occasionally type in the body and because iam used to them using just the subject i dont bother to open the message to see what they wrote, that annoys me alot ------------------- Steeler Football, we got 6 NFL championships now rest of NFL bow down.
