quote Jaseyboy12
YLOD, Turns out, they got people from the interwebz to come onto the show and fix 5 peoples PS3'S, which they did.

They also did a street stunt in which they had 11 people have their PS3's fixed outside a SCEE center with the motto on this side saying
quote
Sony Charge a Fee, watch us do it for free
but at the end of the episode they told us that 4 of those 11 PS3'S had now broken again.

And to top it off,

Sony replied to watchdog with this Email.

So yeah, Watchdog cocked up, and i now don't know what to do about my YLOD PS3, As their is no way in hell i am paying Sony £130, when i can get a 360 + a 3 year warranty .

All in all, watchdog *bleep*ed up.
That email kicked so many asses XD

re: Watchdog Investigates PS3 17th September( YLOD)

Sony are in the right. Watchdog tonight was derogantory in it's nature towards Sony Entertainment UK and over an issue that is almost none existant. I mean lets put it this way if you sell almost 3 million units of something a certain number are going to break that is common sense. I do not know why Watchdog did this segment as it was just plain and simply blatent scare mongering. They had nothing to stand on and that "PRAT" stunt, how old are the editors? I mean seriously they would have had more respect from me had they just sat down and laid out the facts, the reason they didn't is because they have no facts to back this up. This isn't the Xbox 360 RRoD it's an entirely different issue and when Watchdog went after Microsoft they had facts, but not this time. I hate to say it as I hate people and organisations doing this, but Sony should perhaps think about taking this matter to the courts. A lawsuit would shut the BBC up as they are low on money as it is.

I actually read the WHOLE damn Email and yeah Sony are spot on. Unfortunatly though Watchdog still went ahead with the segment. I think the damage has already been done.

I have read Sonys email to Watchdog, Thats put the Ginger Winger in her place.

Remember the thing about the Ford Mondeo on Watchdog, Its now one of the best selling cars.

Why do i get the feeling that nearly everyone watching that episode wont bother reading the responded email and just fall victim to this scare mongering

I have had my PS3 since 23 march 07 launch day in the UK. Never seen a yellow light, Its worked Perfect since day 1.
Only thing i sometimes get a snowy screen on the TV.
I bought it on the exact same day, and I too can confirm that my console has never had a problem, not even the snowyscreen problem that you mention.

I quite agree with the email from Sony, if 10 people are screaming that thier console YLOD'd on them, then theres 1000000 people that are busy playing their PS3's to refute that. So obviously with so many people complaining and those not having the problem well... NOT complaining I don't see how they can back up their numbers...

Thing is, I generally listen to Watchdog and their warnings, but my trust in them has gone down hill seriously if they put unreasonable stuff such as this in their report.

Just watched it, and I think Watchdog have a point. Ignore the email. If the 3rd party repairers can repair it in 15 minutes by reapplying the solder, why do Sony want £130?

re: Watchdog Investigates PS3 17th September( YLOD)

Though they showed inadvertantly that 3rd parties do a shoddy job. I mean out of the 11 "repaired". 4 broke again within the week which means they are trying to solve a very varied issue with a universal "fix".. Sony have said it that is no widespread issue with PS3's and that the PS3 can YLoD for several reasons none of which being solder joints coming lose which is all Watchdog went on about, it's probably the only thing they understand being such a simple minded show.

Mail costs + solder/actual problem + wages of people doing it + having it done professionally + compensation for wasting their time because people couldn't look after their *bleep*ing console = £130.

Were Watchdog not looking over their shoulder what would whoever they got to repair them charged instead?

It's called a flat rate, and as a consumer it's actually much better for you rather than a per hour and per parts charge. I've had plenty of customers bitch about their flat rate charge, only to come back with their tail tucked between their legs after giving them the per hour, per parts bill. Sony is actually doing right with the flat rate repair.

re: Watchdog Investigates PS3 17th September( YLOD)

Pesonally as someone who earns money, I don't see the charge as completely unreasonable, since being out of warranty, they are fixing the product. For someone that's owened it since launch I've used the hell out of it, and given the amount of days I've played it, the cost of the PS3 itself spread over those days is less than 50p per day, which means that I've got my worth of the PS3, and if I have to inject a slight bit more cash to make it last longer, it's reasonable...That said, I'd rather it be a lower value that I inject than a higher value for obvious reasons.

No.

Why do I see third party repairers offering cheaper prices than Sony, and they are making a profit? They do all the things that Sony do and make a profit. So how can Sony claim that they aren't making a profit if they're charging more than anyone else while providing the same service?

Sony > Repair Console > Break Even

Third Party > Repair Console > Profit

You see something wrong there?

re: Watchdog Investigates PS3 17th September( YLOD)

I wonder how different this whole thing would have been had Watchdog reported on the 'disc reading' problem instead. A few people I know, as well as myself, have experienced this problem, and from browsing numerous forums it seems that its a much more common fault than the 'YLOD'.

re: Watchdog Investigates PS3 17th September( YLOD)

Since I still have the YLOD, I was hoping this episode of Watchdog would leave me some hope, after Chips wanted to see an engineers report of it before the would even consider to do anything about my PS3, S.O.G.A was *bleep*ing useless, saying i would have to take chips to small claims court for £50 + Engineers report £90, which would just equal to me paying for Sony to replace it.

I guess I'm going to have to try Gilksy's method, just hoping i don't *bleep* my PS3 up in the process :/

At the part i have Bolded, i sorta feel what you are saying, but i take care of my PS3, at least hoovering once a month, never letting the fan stay on full power too long. Taking the Disc out when finished, but yet still, i get the YLOD.

BTW. Does anybody know anyone who has tried gilksy's method? i would just like some feedback as to if it worked well or not?

=D
