I had held off on updating to 3.00 because I had heard there were many problems with it, including game freezes. They were supposed to be fixed with 3.01, and though there were still some reports of problems it sounded like it was mostly fine so I installed it two days ago. Just popped in GTA 4 today and the game won't launch. It freezes on the very first screen with the warning about turning it off while the hdd light is flashing. I had played it a week ago and it was working fine.

I tried MGS, Orange Box, and Fifa and they all work. When the game freezes I press the ps button and select quit and then it says please wait and then freezes and I have to eject the game disc at which points it beeps a couple of times and the controller gets turned off. There seem to be a lot of problems reported on the Playstation forum, though some people report the orange box not working and some say gta is working and a mixture of other games so I have no idea what is going on. I read on one site that you should uninstall the game and delete the game saves and then it should work though I want to know if there is a less drastic measure. Has anyone had this problem and fixed it? I'd appreciate any help you can give because I don't want to delete the game save and will probably have to wait until Sony releases the next update. Edit: to the mod who edited the message and changed the name of the topic, I'm sorry but what exactly is wrong with the spelling and language? I checked the spelling before I posted it and now again and there isn't anything wrong with it other than the names of games showing up as incorrect.

I remember my copy of tw09 did something similar and it had nada to do with the firmware. It would get to the same point on my ps3 and freeze everytime I about went out and was gonna get a new copy but my dad called EA and they told me to delete the game data utility for that game and then try to load it again however this time a update for the game showed up I had to install it and magically it stopped freezing at that same point and I didnt have to go get a new copy. Still dont know why it ddnt warn me there was an update coulda saved a few hours of wondering wtf was wrong with it, btw had no incidents since that day every update for any game has shown up since that day

I know it was a different game then you are asking about but maybe its sorta the same deal, delete the game data utility not the saves and try to play it again and maybe there was an update to the game your ps3 didnt warn you about like mine did.

yea just delete the game data utility its the option above saved data utility on XMB screen

thanks, that solved it. Didn't even ask to update, I just uninstalled it then reinstalled it and then it worked.
