Just out of curiosity, I thought I'd pitch this out there to see if there's anything I'm missing. I'm more of a console gamer, to be completely honest, but I do enjoy the occasional PC game. I recently upgraded to a pretty nice gaming notebook and, of course, picked up Crysis. I've played it on and off over the past couple weeks, but I can't seem to pull off max settings, and I can only go on high in certain, smaller parts of the game. There are even times when medium doesn't quite cut it, and I can forget turning on any AA. Is there something obvious that I'm just not doing? Haha. My specs are:

Intel Core 2 Duo Extreme 2.8ghz.
Dual Geforce 8800 GTX SLI cards.
4GB DDR2 RAM.
x2 64GB Solid State Drives.
Vista Home Premium SP1.

Crysis is just a very power intensive game. It isn't optimized well, and although the 8800's aren't low end, they're midrange. You should be able to get medium on that machine very easily though, I think. But either way, Crysis is more of a tech demo and it's very poorly optimized.
Thanks for the feedback. That's kind of what I was thinking, but considering my average PC knowledge, I just wanted to ensure I wasn't overlooking anything. I can still run the game beautifully, but it just bothers me that I can't run in on max settings. Haha. Ah well, I hear Warhead's optimized a bit better, so maybe I can do a bit better with that one.
Yeah, you should be able to at least manage high with those specs I'd think, but frankly it's probably just the game. Once they fix optimization issues that laptop should run new stuff beautifully. Also make sure you're doing regular maintance like defragging your computer, spyware, virus scans.

Haha yeah, I at least know to do that much. I just don't feel too sure yet when it comes to advanced gaming, so I like to make sure I'm on track with outside opinions.
I'm still trying to learn, but console gaming is just so much more straightforward haha.

And to TheHerb, as you can probably guess, I wouldn't be the one to spout out numbers for you, but I could tell you that it would likely run it fairly strongly on reasonably high settings, at least in the less stressful environments of the game. There are some spots that, even on low (my only tests in these situations were with everything on low except my object quality, which was still on high, as I was too lazy to restart the game haha), my rig has frame rate troubles.

You will have no problem running the game. I can manage Crysis on Very High, 2x AA (could probably push more) at 1280x1024 and I get 40-60 FPS and I'm only running it with a Q9450 (2.66GHZ) Processor, HD Radeon 4870, and 4gigs of DDR2 1066 RAM. Of course I haven't overclocked my stuff yet...

Just need you guys to confirm what I hope I know; will this run on very high settings with around 30 FPS?

Intel Core2Quad @ 2.4GHz
4GB RAM DDR2-800
NIVIDIA 9800GX2.
yeah it will asa long as u dont count the aa.
16x aa man , it will look better than reality.
whooooh!!
Just curious, would these same specs work, if the video wasn't the GX2, and was an ATi HD Radeon 4850? On a 1280x1024 monitor?

quote can my comp tun this
Hi here is my coputer specs:
700mghz pentium III processor
256mb ram
18mb intergrated graphic card.

I was wounderin if I could maybe play crysis on high settings? my mate said it would work. also if it doesnt do you think there is a way to hack the game 2 make it work?

thnx
Holy crap I would be amazed if you could run any games from last 4 years on that let alone crysis! I have a 9600gt (core 2@3ghz, 2gigs ram etc) and I get pretty marginal performance @ 1680x1050 res (high settings no AA). It is still not a bad gaming experience with average of 30 to 35fps but those jaggies do spoil image - I would probably suggest 8800gts (512mb version not older 320 or 640mb)and decent intel cpu. I have to laugh at idiots with 9600gt like mine who claim to run everything on very high and get great performance, bollocks! I dont think you could even view a screenshot of crysis on this pc

re: Can my computer run this?!

^Clearly that is just a troll. It is an obvious one >_>

OK, my rig should be something like this (not bought yet):

CPU - Dual Core Pentium @ 3.0+ GHz OCed (No problem I'm sure XD)
GPU - Powercolor Radeon HD 4870 (possibly OCed a bit more)
RAM - 4GB
OS - 64 bit Vista

I know I can RUN it (quite well), but how smooth will it be, at what settings, what resolutions, and how well would it perform in periods with a lot of action? Is Anti Aliasing worth the resolution drop? Basically, could I run it at a smooth FPS and get the sort of pictures you see in screenshots on sits like IGN?

BTW: What IS a smooth FPS? I assume 24+ (consistent) would be smooth (since any faster, the human eye can't really see)

BTW2: When sites give benchmarks for games (In FPS) are they giving them when they are stressed, or idle in the game? And are they using MAX settings?

I'm HOPING I can run Crysis smoothly at around 1920 x 1080 (Using HDTV and/or HD monitor), hopefully at least 2x AA?

Lastly, on a side note, I hear that Warhead looks better and has less steep requirements? So if my soon-to-be rig can run it at High/Very High well, I imagine the Warhead game would be able to run even better (perhaps with a slight graphical boost)?

re: Can my computer run this?!

I'm pretty sure you can, with little trouble.

The GPU is plenty sufficient, and the CPU is more than adequate.

Ah, here. Even with a video capture utility (Fraps probably?), it still runs well enough, with HIGH settings:

re: Can my computer run this?!

I know my computer can play Crysis well, but my question, how well?

4870 1gb
AMD Phenom X4 9850 (quad core)
4gb RAM
Vista Ultimate x64

How well could I play at 1680x1050 resolution?

re: Can my computer run this?!

Yes, very well I should say.

I have a 4870 512MB, a dual core, 4GB of ram, Vista Home Premium x64, and I run it at 1920 x 1080, on very high across the board (no AA). It slows down in places with a lot of action, but it is still playable. Not sure what the framerate is like generally, but it is probably floating around the low/mid 20's when I'm not doing much.

I would probably enjoy it a bit more, if I lowered the resolution a bit.

So you should be better off than me, though not by much. But at the lower resolution you have, you should have no problem playing it maxed out, without much framerate drops.

re: Can my computer run this?!

a lot of people before were saying why dont you use dx10. Well from what my brother knows about this stuff, and he knows how to build a computer inside out he told me dx10 is only good if you have settings on highest. But F.E.A.R 2 or whatever number you said is not a extremely graphics intense game.

re: Can my computer run this?!

also I want to say I got a new g card, more ram, and a power supply and put it in. I got the radeon 4850 and now I can run normal crysis which is more graphics intense than warhead but now I can run most things on high with x2 aa and 1490 by 900 and I can run it fine. with about 30 fps. also I got 2 gigs of ram.

re: Can my computer run this?!

crysis was very poorly coded, thats why its hard to run no matter what system you have.
