General Discussion

For your random Rapturing

As for me, I'm tight on money at the moment and I won't be able to actually pick up the game until about next week. How are the impressions from anyone who does own it?

re: General Discussion

All I can say is DOWNLOAD THE DEMO FIRST! Seriously make sure your video card has Shader Model 3.0 and try and run the demo and see if it works. The game also uses the SecuROM trojan as "Copy-Protection" and there's tons of crippling bugs that are probably caused by that malware piece of shit and/or hardware incompatibility with like 60% of PCs. Just a word of warning before you put down $50 on the game.

re: General Discussion

I just bought this and the only thing that gets me is that so far it seems pretty linear, I'm at the part where Atlas says, "I think you're ready to take on a Big Daddy now" so not too far into it.

I'm not fast enough with head shots those splicers come at you fast, plus I always miss with my shock too...I think once I get used to everything moving so fast it will be much funner.

i love to hack stuff and the water looks marvelous

The game itself is brilliant and moody but not that scary for me since i just got done playing Condemned. Otherwise it's fun.

alot of people seem to have a problem starting simply the demo though. me i dont care about trying the demo. but come friday im getting my hands on the collectors edition, making of dvd, soundtrack, and most of all big daddy figurine. im planning on upgrading my pc pretty soon anyway so if it doesnt play now it will in a few months and having the collectors edition will be reason enough for paying for the game now instead of then.

im not too worried about the bugs now i come to think about it though, i mean stalker was supposed to be riddled with bugs but when i came to play it i had no problems at all.

and i just came across this post on a system requirements thread in the IGN forums ...

quote
My rig can play BioShock (demo) at the highest settings at 1280x1024 and it is playable (20-30 FPS). Obviously, DX10 features are not activated.

Athlon X2 3800
2 GB DDR RAM
Geforce 7600 GT

I was surprised...no C2D cpu...no DX10 compatible card...no DDR2 RAM...I guess you don't really need the latest and greatest hardware to enjoy new games. [face_dancing]

I would actually say the demo ran better than Oblivion or FEAR does on my PC.
dont know if i fully believe that but it sounds pretty good.

re: General Discussion

That sounds believable. Geforce 7600 GT is a pretty damn good card from all the reviews it got on Newegg. After hearing about how good it was for the price, I changed my mind again and decided to purchase the 7600. I'm also getting an extra 1GB of RAM for a total of 1.5 GB. With 512 MB less RAM than that person and a single-core processor, I won't be able to turn everything up to high, but some medium settings certainly seem plausible for me.

I don't see why people think that this game's requirements are so crazy. They may look intimidating, but after doing some research it's actually pretty cost-effective to simply upgrade a run-of-the-mill retail PC like mine for just short of $150 to run the game perfectly on medium graphics.

EDIT: I just realized that that person has plain DDR RAM, whereas mine is DDR2, so I'm hoping I can put some of the less intensive settings on high.

re: General Discussion

do you have any idea how the 7600GT would compare with the 7900GS? i know the GT means better than its GS counterpart but how about the increase in numbers from 7600 to 7900, what would that mean? which would be the better card?

the requirements arent crazy at all for the game, its a great looking game so obviously its going to need a decent rig to handle it. for me its just thinking that i dont quite meet those requirements, you know, the disappointment that you cant play it the best it can be played.

and yeah, that guy had DDR ram, DDR2 would mean a bit of a jump in performance. if youve got DDR2 then the 512mb less shouldnt be that much of a hit.

re: General Discussion

7900GS is a better performer than 7600GT. Some people have claimed that they can clock a 7900GS to the performance level of a 7900GT.

re: General Discussion

I had a 7600GT for a while after my 6800GT packed up and there was next to no difference in performance between the two cards.

So yeah, the 7900 is noticably better.

re: General Discussion

ive never overclocked anything before, ive heard that my core 2 duo E6600 can be overclocked quite a bit but its not something i really want to try. im pretty handy with installing computer hardware and stuff but not in the way that id try to mess about with it and overclock something.

glad to hear the 7900GS is a better performer than the 7600GT though. it seems each day closer to the games release i get something to give me a bit more hope that my pc will run it well.

the games out tomorrow though. got a call from the store saying that its in stock and ready for me to pick up so im goin out in the morning to collect it. this time tomorrow ill be playing bioshock with my big daddy figurine sitting right next to me on the desk. cant wait ... ...

re: General Discussion

Hmmm after checking my local game store I have found Bioshock for £24 ($48), free delivery and will take 2 days. Should I grab it now or should I wait until things have been given the all clear?

edit: bleh was never good at maths, should be $48 not $42

$42 is a nice deal, I would probably get it and worry about hardware after it comes.

I have the same kind of deal here in the US at Circuit City, and I'm getting that and worrying about upgrades and fixes for the game when they need to happen. It'll save you some money, that's for sure.

That's an awesome grab. I got discount at Woolworths were I work when getting mine, but still not as awesome. lol Thought I've been having to wait about two weeks for a game from America...It was a preorder....which came out about the 14th. ^^;;; I don't think I'll be getting it from th same guy again.
