It works, it's just not sufficient enough...Would have been better to just upload the text file to mediafire.com or something. Anyway, from just that screen I can tell you that your RAM is not enough. You need at least 1 GB RAM to run Bioshock. Also, judging from the fact that it's not a power of 2 (256, 512, etc.) it also looks like you have an onboard video card that's using up your system RAM as VRAM, which won't suffice for the game either. I think replacing those two things is all you have to do, although I'm not 100% sure. As for what to get to replace it, I'll have to see the text file, otherwise there's a chance the replacements won't be compatible.

works for me and ouch 494MB RAM? with a pagefile of 369MB? I'm surprised you can run anything on that PC.
Your first thing to do is to buy more RAM...a game like Bioshock will need 2GB. Your processor at 2.40Ghz is safe but it is only singular and a celeron at that...if you are wanting to run decent games and future next gen games, think at least of a core duo 2 processor. Even a E6400 isn't that much nowadays and that is 2 running at 2.13Ghz Unfortunately that screenshot tells us nothing of your videocard, hence why I mentioned saving the dxdiag as a document file. I forgot about Neo's 52 character limit (which is more than 11 of the same characters in a row not the full limit of a post) however if you don't have a webhost handy, then PM me asking me for my email address ad send me your dxdiag in an attachment then I can throw it on my webhost to link here for the techies to see and decypher the problems. Dxdiag's have come in handy in handling problems for Oblivion. Which the guys at the Official TES forums have more than willingly read and spotted the problems then devised solutions. The same can be done here but straight away I can see your 494MB RAM being the major problem ------------------- ![]() ![]()

He needs to go to the display tab of Dxdiag. I think he misunderstood me and looked for a "Device" tab which there isn't ofcourse.

I think you can try maxing it and if it runs too slow, just turn like actor quality to medium or something. I don't see you having too much of a problem though.

re: Can Your PC Run Bioshock? |
quote CharuzuThat's computers for you. However, you are lucky in this case as the answer is yes. Judging by the benchmarking I've been doing on this game (see the Game Hardware Performance thread) then you are definitly going to max it out. The 7800GTX is much faster than the 8600GT. As I show in the benchmarking thread the 8600GT maxes out this game in DirectX 10 mode. As you will only be using DirectX 9 it will be even easier for you to max it out. Don't diss your computer, the 7800GTX is still one of the best DirectX 9 cards out there. A high end DirectX 9 card like the 7800GTX, is better than a mid-range DirectX 10 card like the 8600's. -------------------

re: Can Your PC Run Bioshock? |
quote CharuzuYou don't want to miss out on the sound in this game, so definitly get a good set of speakers (I would recommend Logitech X-230 or X-530 as they are excellent value and awesome sound) or a good set of headphones. I wouldn't really recommend you upgrade your system for a while until you can afford to (and need to) go the whole hog and build a DX10 system. At the moment though, your system represents a great DX9 system, and given the amount of Vista issues around at the moment DX9 is looking really nice. -------------------

I've considered buying Bioshock, but I'm not sure if my PC can handle it. Here are my specs:
Intel Core 2 Duo e6600 Nvidia GeForce 8800GTS 320MB 2GB DDR2-800 Dual Channel RAM I don't overclock anything so it's all stock. Will this PC be able to run Bioshock? Also, would buying a second 8800 GTS and using SLI improve my performance greatly? My PC runs just about any game at high settings, but sometimes stutters with Medal of Honor: Airborne. ------------------- The next time you have a thought... let it go.

quote MuleYour computer is pretty similar to mine. I have an E6700 and 8800GTX 768. I run everything maxed with no problems, so at worst you might have to drop your settings a bit. You should easily be able to play it. You can use this link to test your computer. Just select Bioshock from the drop-down menu, click on "Can you RUN it?", and it will give you a report based on your components. http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/referrer/srtest Aero
