Game hardware performance

Ok so I decided to take a look at what I was getting as far as frames-per-second go. Besides this being an ego-trip for those of us who can max-out the game , this might also give other users who are interested in buying the game and idea of the performance they can expect.

-----

Mine is done running the game maxed out (in DirectX 10 mode) at 1440x900.
Firstly this is the PC I am testing it on:

CPU: Core2Duo E6600 @ 2.4Ghz
RAM: 2GB DDR2 @ 667Mhz

I am running three tests on two different DX10 cards:

XFX 8600GT (stock @ 540/700) --- Average 39 fps
XFX 8600GT (overclocked @ 645.5/840) --- Average 48 fps
BFG 8800GTX OC2 (factory overclocked) --- Average 116 fps

As you can see even at stock the 8600GT can run the game and still be playable. Overclocked the improvment is quite noticeable. Under the 8800GTX the game runs superbly and this card is almost wasted at this resolution (goddamit I need a new monitor then!).

EDIT:

Benchmarking is done using the latest version of Fraps.

Download Fraps 2.9.1 here

re: Game hardware performance

I think that an 8800GTX is way overboard for this game. It's also over $500, which is more than a premium Xbox 360. At 116 average FPS, the card is really being wasted.

re: Game hardware performance

I completely agree I was stunned by how easily this game ran, particularly on the 8600GT. Certain games like Medieval Total War 2, and Company of Heroes give this card a far bigger work out. However, the card is capable of running The Elder Scrolls IV maxed out with HDR, AA and AF and the frame rate still is fine. The fact is that graphics cards are still not being stretched by games. It is likely that Crysis will change this though. The fact remains that my 8600GT which I bought because it was going cheap and has the power I needed for the job (3D modelling with Maya). The card was selling for $189 back in May, considering it's performance it's definitly a worthwhile card if you don't have the money for an 8800GTX, or you want a bridging card until the DirectX 10.1 cards come out. I never bought it for gaming (I already had the 8800GTX), so the fact it runs todays games so well surprises me.
