I have many Quastions about Atlas. Fontaine I should say, anyway why did Fontaine want to get to the Bathysphere? The Bathysphere that Atlas said his family was in.

I think atlas just was using his imaginary family as a means to lure you to the other side of rapture ultimately to take out Ryan. Atlas said if you help him save his family, he would get you back to the surface.

The family is imaginary because after you assassinate Ryan, Fontaine radios you talking about how Atlas was just a character. I even think he mentions his son and wife in a mocking tone if I remember correctly.

Exactly. He only used his "family" as a tool to get you to feel sorry for him and be more willing to be used for his own selfish goals.

It was just a ploy to get you through the various areas and ultimately kill Ryan. Amazing voice acting on his part though.

Yeah, he really did sound awesome. I hated Fontaine's voice.

I don't think he wanted him to suspect he was being controlled or something.

Notice how he freaked out when he realized he was being controlled? I think Atlas wanted to play on his sympathies so he wouldn't freak out. Probably makes it easier.

On the subject, did Ryan know that "Atlas'" family were fictional?

As far as the player knows, Ryan (and pretty much everyone else in Rapture) knew very little about Atlas. It's likely that no one knew if Atlas had a wife or any kids. He was a very secretive individual, because he knew he had to be.
