As far as I know, the main character of Persona 3 is a nameless one, so as a player it's up to you to give him a name.

I know the game isn't out yet, but has anyone thought of a name for him?

I'll be using the name that I have been using for games for a while now, which is "Kazuma Kaneko". Nickname "Kazuma". This is both a tribute to the wonderful SMT artist (who didn't do character designs for P3 , but did do the enemy designs) and as a tribute to Kazuma, the brash protagonist from the manga/anime s-CRY-ed.

I'll give him the name he has in the manga, which is "Minato Arisato".

And yeah Kazuma Kaneko didn't do character designs for Persona 3, but I don't really mind. Shigenori Soejima also has a great style, and it really fits the game I think. Actually, I prefer his style for Persona. If Kazume Kaneko did the character designs, the game would have a different feel to it, and I'm used to this now.

I've got a couple names I use when I'm trying to make a character fit into an Asian setting. But i'm thinking for P3 i'll go with Shiryo Xynshen. Shiryo being the family name but means Vengeful Spirit and Xynshen being a bastardization of the name Xinshen or Xinsheng (sometimes seen as Xin Shen and Xin Sheng). Give him the nickname Shen which means Introspective.

Well since this game is quite a bit darker, I'll go the cliche route and call him Kira

After some research on foreign name sites and brainstorming with my friends, my boy will be named Naoki Hisao.

Here's a couple of leftover ideas, in case it inspires someone:

Naoki = honest tree
Naoki Kiyoshi= saintly
Naoki Takehiko= soldier prince
Naoki Yoshinori= noble virtue

From what I read Hisao means long-lived man. My friend thought it might bring luck to a game character Me, I liked the sound of the two names together.

So it means long-lived tree? Like a redwood? 'cause that would be pretty lame, to name a character after a life-extended flora.

I don't know. I didn't think one'd combine the meaning of the last name and first name together; it just means "honest tree" and "long-lived man", like the meanings of my own last name and my first name don't match (and I think most people's dont, honestly). I honestly chose the Naoki name as a reference to Nocturne's Hitoshura and went from there.

I'm not fond of japanese names, so I won't use the name from the manga (Minato Arisato). Guess I'll have to come up with something.
