In my opinion, the most typical god of war storyline for GOW 3 is:

Kratos and the Titans destroy all the gods. The Titans take over Olympus and betray Kratos (so typical.) Like they flick him with their giant hands and he goes flying off into the distance...Then, Kratos sets off on his journey to destroy the Titans with the aid of the spirits of the gods (or maybe they dont manage to kill Zeus and he escapes and then helps Kratos.)

Maybe not entirely like that but in the general sense;)

I think it will have something to do with Kratos' brother. The video at the end of the first game about Kratos' origins mentions him and seems to set him up as a future antagonist.

Hades brings back Kratos' wife and child to try and stop him.
And falls to his knees crying and apologzing.
He asks Zeus if their lives are restored, he will stop the Titans.
Zeus agrees, but the Titans become enraged.
They re-kill his Wife and Child.
In an angry rage, he lunges at Gaia.
Full Rage of the Gods and Rage of the Titans power.
The other Titans block his attack, dying process.
As Gaia runs, he sends Kratos back in time.
Now he must destroy the Titans in the time before the Titan wars.
After all the Titans are defeated, he must climb mount Olympus and get to Zeus.
Tell him the story of his adventure, use the Threads of Time (end of part, forgot the name) and return to moment where he agrees with the Titans.
Only then will be accepted as Zeus' son, and have his family restored.
But Ares, is back, and once again the God of War.
Seeking revenge on Kratos.
Kratos' brother, is now Ares' puppet of war.

intriguing and yea the brother theories being thrown around could have some relevance just have to wait and see i guess

Yea, I hope his brother does make an appearance sometime in the game.
If not in 3, then hopefully in Chains of Olympus at least.

But I think Ares was around before they were even born.

How about if he grew up to be Hades' right hand man.
And he lives in Hades' and is married to Kratos' dead wife.

Kratos changes everything from the past.
So he never joined Ares and never lost his family.

We start with a recap of GOW2, with either the last cutscenes of the game or a monologue done by Gaia.

As Gaia reaches the summit Kratos jumps from her back and immediately we are thrown into a locked off area, (Gates of Olympus?) slaying enemies left right and centre as you do.

Then you throw open the gates and continue on fighting your way around numerous pieces of debry from fights between Gods and Titans.

Cut forward a few more fights and puzzles and you come face to face with Zeus. Again.

Kratos swings the blade at Zeus but is repelled by, lets say Posiden or Hades.

Kratos fights and beats whoever it is.

However Zeus has escaped, and Kratos must track him down.

And the plot snowballs from there.

You know how you roll a snowball down a hill and as it keeps rolling it gets bigger and bigger.

Thats what I mean. As you go the story gains more and becomes more fleshed out.
