Wanted to love it... really I did! anyone else? |
|
Well.. this supposedly "epic" game has been out for awhile now. Many people have debated the structure, efficiency, replayability, and many other things regarding this game. But every time I see someone trying to defend the game, I can't help but think of all the flaws, and more importantly I think about all the things I thought this game was GOING to be.. living up to hype and all that.
Just some player/fable fan(atic) feedback would be wonderful! Obviously thousands of people were frantic over the release of this game.. and many were letdown, I find myself trying to like this game, even for it's sheer simplicity and albeit linear storyline, but I can't quite bring myself to do it. I was just wondering if anyone feels as I do, and if so, instead of criticizing Molyneux's mistakes, could I get some feedback on the kinds concepts people might be thinking of for the next game? I love hearing other people's thoughts on games that I like, good or bad, so feel free, but I would really love to hear about gameplay elements you would take away, or add for that matter, ready? After getting lured away from Fable II by Oblivion and Fallout 3, I returned to Fable II last night since I had DLed Knothole Island and never played it. I found a lot of things that I remembered as being 'annoying' in the gameplay now seemed absolutely inexcusable.
My character was dressed all in white, with a friggin halo on her head because she is so good and people are running and screaming away from her. She saved the whole island and people are cowering and running away? It's just ridiculous the AI is so non-intuitive. I own a home, I go into it to give them some Luxury furniture and the tenant calls the guard on me and I get fined 50 gold for trespassing and being a nuisance? Yes, there is much to love here, but there is more that seems to be on a basic level inexcusable. ------------------- ![]() This Post Needs More Zazz.

I hated how Molyneux contradicted himself:
1) Having children act as "extra lives" was removed because testers ended up building huge families. 2) Beginners to the game are allowed to play co-op with a maxed-out supercharacter, because "People should be allowed to play how they like." What the hell? Why would they take away the only aspect of having kids then? As it is in the game there is pretty much 0 reason to have a family. All they do is take your money and complain about the house, even if it has a five star rating. Also, either put unarmed combat back in or make the Slap expression more forceful, preferrably the former. I can't tell you how many times I have wanted to beat the hell out of a spouse for all of their complaining. ------------------- Moved on

You all seem to be taking a game that was made so as not to take itself seriously to seriously. To say that the a.i is non intuitive is more of a compliment to the developers than a problem. The A.i is supposed to be the way it is. It adds to the charm.
I am going to dismiss the post of grievre because there is only one section of it that has any discussion merit. Now to the original posters message. I will not point out peters mistakes, yes there are many, and instead focus on my opinion of the game. Yes Fable 2 is simplistic, liniar and in no way a hardcore Rpg but I dont think anyone can argue that that is what lionhead was planning to make in a game. Fable was never planned to be a hardcore rpg. That being said there was much emphasis put into the ageing process and choice consequences that I think were severly lacking in the finished product. Like mane I expected a dynamic ageing process. The A.I was exactly what I had expected having been an avid fan of Fable 1. It is simplistic to the degree of being ludicris but I think that this is the core around which the world is designed. I know alot of people complained about lionhead making unkept promises but I think they did an amazing job in fable 2 and It is one of my favorite western rpg's of all time. ------------------- The Classic Gamer's Society. As I said there IS a lot to love, but some of the reactions, comments, etc are ridiculous in that they make no sense. I have to disagree that it is intentional. Your spouse divorcing you, but continuing to remain on your 'family' list and continue to get a stipend? It makes no sense. I had two houses in Bowerstone and I couldn't move my first child to it even though I made it my home. I also was unable to rent out the first house. Again - stupid glitchy things that dampered my enjoyment. Especially after playing the BethSoft games.

Well I agree with the comment about Fable 2 not being a hardcore RPG, I am a huge fan of RPG's and wasn't expecting Fable 2 to be a lot different from the original... (structurally speaking) I somehow knew they were going to keep all of the weird A.I. character reactions... Daisy I strongly agree with you regarding this, I noticed this as well, many, many times. I disliked the fact that you can be the most malevolent being in Albion, everyone runs in fear as soon as seeing you, (well some of the time anyway) and yet, all you have to do is catch up to them, sweet pick your lute for a few seconds, make a super cool heroic pose, pump your arms, and they'll jump into bed with you.

I'm one of the few people left who sing Fable 2's praises all the time, there is NOTHING wrong with the game.
Fable 2 was never designed to be some sophisticated hero-fest where everything had to be figured out and the A.I. reacts to your shiny new belt buckle with amazement. Fable is a hack 'n slash comedy filled fiesta. You run around with your pirate sword and 6 barrel rifle dressed like a noble lady even though you're a devil horned man with eyes bulging out of his scarred face, covered in blue magical runes. Throw your sword around in people's faced, run from the guards, shoot a few in the crotch and giggle. Do a bit of community service, waltz back in to town and play your lute for 5minutes and suddenly the towns completely forgotten about your devilish behaviour. It's a fun game designed to be picked up for a laugh and definetly not intended to be taken seriously, it's there for hilarity purposes. Even the glitches are funny as hell, for instance, the kid staring at the wall glitch, it's hilarious. If you stare at it long enough you get so creeped out you end up having to run at him enough that you can hide him somewhere in the garden. It's a general fun game, not a serious RPG, stop picking up the control expecting Lord of the Rings when you're picking up a game that's closer to Ren and Stimpy. Stop thinking seriously, and laugh a little ------------------- ![]() Credit to Exo for the banner OMFGWTFBBQ

It was a decent game. Hopefully this new DLC will bring out things expected, but were not available at release date for the game.

The game is absolutely terrible and is a shadow of Fable 1's brilliance. So many things were promised and so many were cut for no good reason. The first Fable game at least immersed you into the story, and the game environment was also more appealing. It's true that Fable isn't a serious game but Fable 2 is simply a joke in how ridiculous it is, even in comparison with the first.
To be completely honest this game basically drained my soul whilst I waited for the release. Only to spit in my face when I finally played it. I am seriously doubting that I'll even bother playing the third game. The only reason I bother with this one is because of my love for the first. ------------------- ![]() ![]()
