Is there a patch for the game to let it run on xp?

you shouldnt need any patch

(if your running xp pro)

if your not, try downloading the application compatability toolkit from the windows website

or you could use the one that comes with xp

But it dosn't work with the kompatibility mode, too. So what can i do to make it work?

well, that aon site xp patch did not work on my computer. this one did though:

the link given above has the patch which will work with all versions of xp it is worth getting if you are useing xp and want to play botf

I have the UK/German version of BOTF, which is a newer version form Microprose, so it's automatically 1.02. I've installed it, and it works to an extent with XP, but has a tendancy to crash at the most inappropriate moments!! I've downloaded a couple of patches, but I get a message saying "Your version of Birth of the Federation cannot be patched".

HELP!! The crashes are driving me mad!!

Run it in XP, with compatibilty mode set for Windows 2000. This works fine for me.

i tried installing the patch at http://my.tbaytel.net/babula/Patches.html

and had a dumb question: how do i add files to the stbof.res file after renaming it to a zip extension. I don't see an "add" option on my screen when i open the zip file. I tried unzipping the file, copying the recommended files into the uncompressed folder and then rezipping the file as stbof.res. However, after completing the install process, STBOF doesn't even start for me anymore. any suggestions?

I've tried all the tips that have been posted here (although the compatibility tool is quite complicated :-/ I could have used it wrong)

When I launch the botf.exe my screen just goes all black (as if it's trying to load) but then it goes back to windows...
