re: Franchise Mode

I just got this game and Franchise is pretty cool except for the fact that I still kinda suck.

And just to add to the arguement a little, I find it funny how K0nKuzh0n trys to spell right and use sentences but still doesn't captilize beginning of sentence and stuff.

lol wtf... you ragging on me because I dont capitalize the first letter in a sentence. Sorry to disapoint you I guess im an overachiever.

There is no alternative football game to madden. They dont even make NFL 2k5 for 360, and im pretty sure its not backwards compatible. so how in the world would i play it anyways...? Madden 07 for 360 its a huge disapointment. bottom line. get off their nuts.

Your comeback was "get off their nuts,"?

It would have bode better for you to just go away quietly.

re: Franchise Mode

Here's my take on this.

EA has been on my shit list for a long time. Think about it. Their catch phrase is "EA SPORTS. ITS IN THE GAME." or, "If its in the game, its in the game."

This is untrue to start with. Take for instance, ESPN's NFL 2K5.

This game had things that Madden NEVER had, and STILL does not have.

1. Illegal Contact/Defensive Holding penalties.

2. Ineligible Receiver downfield penalty.

3. Illegal touching of forward pass penalty.

4. List of every possible scenario for a challenge, then you select what youre challenging. Not just pressing challenge and letting the game decide what it is that Im trying to challenge.

5. Streaming, scripted commentary.

6. Halftime show presentation, Draft Big Board, general emphasis on PRESENTATION.

Now I could go on, but I think you see the point. EA has not lived up to their own words. There are a lot of things in just that football game that arent, and never have been in Madden, which is supposed to be the most hardcore football sim you can buy.

Over the years, Madden has deteriorated into just a different gimmick every year, and not focusing on what the game is missing.

Not to say I havent liked some of the gimmicks that they have put in, Defensive playmaker (which is not on 360 by the way...) was really great and gave you total control of what each defender was doing. Madden on PS2 is just about as good a game as you can get, aside from the aforementioned things that they just refuse to address that can be found in ESPN's game.

Thats why it pissed me off so much when they cornered the market. Another game comes out, doing things that Madden has never done for half the price and EA goes and eliminates the competition, so that if we want the new players and rosters and an updated football game, we have no other choice but to buy whatever they put out, whether it be a decent game or a steaming pile of shit.

Madden on 360, I forgave 06 for the missing features. It was bare bones, hell you couldnt even challenge for christ's sake.

With a full year to work on the next game, EA chose to add the gimmick Superstar mode with the totally effed camera angles, instead of adding the basic core features that previous games have had. Players that are like me, could care less about controlling one single player. Especially with how difficult the camera angles are for most positions.

1. Defensive Matchups. Let me assign Ty Law to Randy Moss all game. No matter where he lines up, let me assign a man to him. Instead, my human opponent quick subs him into the slot to burn my number 3 all day long. Thanks guys.

2. Global Substitutions. Hey, dont waste time programming in a bunch of set various packages. I can do that stuff myself. Let me put my guys where I want them in my own sets. Anyone who is playing Madden knows how to do that stuff themselves.

3. Player Editing. If you refuse to acknowledge retired numbers EA, you better allow us purists to change the numbers. Oh hey, players change positions all the time as well. We should be able to do that like we once were able to.

4. Defensive playmaker. Get your core gameplay up to par before you spend all that time on new features that some players wont even use. Superstar mode isnt, in my opinion worth all the time that was wasted to put it in there. Not when all these other features went missing.

5. Co-Op gameplay. Hey, Madden used to be the most killer party game I had. 4 players, 2 on each team. Lets rock. Now you cant even play 2 on a team? How could that have been figured to be an expendable feature? Especially with the improvements to blocking in this game? Are your heads jammed up your collective asses for the warmth, or the fresh air, EA? Come ON.

6. Fantasy Draft. Small feature, but infinitely expands replay value. Get your buddies, start a new league, start over with the entire pool of players. Build your own team. Bring it back, EA.

Then you throw in there the basic things that NFL 2K5 had and it just compounds the frustration that I have toward EA.

EA has in my opinion refused to get their basic NFL Football package complete, and went with the gimmick after gimmick every year. And with the second edition of Madden on the 360 choosing the Gimmick Superstar mode over getting their basic core football package up to speed, I see no change in their mentality.

And with no other football options out there besides what EA churns out, it is really frustrating to spend this money and be disappointed season after season.

re: Franchise Mode

look guys, in my educated opinion, EA isn't doing that good in madden right now because technically it's only their 1st and a half year doing it. The original madden's ruled, true, but they didn't have anywhere near the graphics like the ones today do. they had to start with just the bare basics in the first madden and build their way up to ones like 04 and 05... and that's the exact same thing their doing now with the 360 maddens. so quit ur freakin wining about losing 60 bucks, i did too but i tend to look at the glass half-full. quit being so damn pessimistic. give it a couple of years, (hopefully only one) and give EA a chance.... i'm pretty sure they wouldn't sacrifice a couple of years unless they knew they could give us 50 more.

Look at the jump from PS1 to PS2. Madden 2001 didnt have a lot of features, like fantasy draft and that stuff, due to the new graphics and engine. This is why I forgave Madden 06's numerous shortcomings.

However, the second installment for PS2 was right up to par with what the former games were doing. I see no difference with that this year. The jump from PS2/XBOX to the 360 is a similar gap. The second game in the series should have been up to speed.

It would have in my opinion had EA chosen to do that. Instead, they went with Superstar mode, which I could really care less about. They waste time on that, but dont put 2-4 player gameplay in there? Thats bush league, I dont care how you spin it.

They are spending their development time in the wrong areas. They need to get the basics in there first, then they can go with their gimmicks. I dont see how they wasted the time putting superstar mode in there when you cant play 2 people on a team, no defensive assignments, player editing, global substitutions, fantasy draft, etc...

Those core basics should be addressed first, then you can go with your alternate game modes. Thats common sense.

Thats the problem. EA doesnt have to be sure of anything, other than the fact that they have the NFL market cornered.

There isnt going to be any other NFL licensed videogame on the market. If people want football, they have to get it from EA. This, in my opinion is why we are seeing a lapse in the quality of these games. There's no penalty for complacency or subpar product being produced. Its the only product out there and we as consumers have to take it or leave it.

You can be optimistic if you like, but I tend to lean towards being realistic. If you look at the pattern that EA has displayed for the past several years choosing to add in gimmicks instead of increasing the core football package quality, it really doesnt look that good when youre hoping for improvements in the next game.

At the very least, they damn well better put the 2-4 player gameplay back in there. Thats inexcusable, any way you slice it.

That's not true. Play the PS2 and Xbox versions. They are still great games. It's the division of labor that's "hurting" EA's Madden series on the 360.

As Cdemon said, "It's too early too tell," if this is the beginnings of monopoly quality.
