Yeah, questions are good, because the reader's getting into the story, and they'll eventually leave off with good CC.

And another few things I'm throwing my two cents in about:

I see several works in here by various authors are using song names as titles. Yeah, I know I'm doing that as well, but I'm actually giving credit. I'm not pointing my finger at anybody in particular, so don't be all "wtf" on me, okay? And even though the creators of those songs probably won't see your stories, it's still good to give credit, otherwise it would be plagiarizing, in a way. At least give some credit in the first post, like an Author's Note or Acknowledgments.

And one more thing I've noticed in some stories:

The usage of your friends in your work, as Sally has pointed out. Yes, I know that you're all good little buddies and love each other very much and think of yourselves as besties for life and all that crap, but that just causes fights among you, as Emolicious once pointed out.

I agree with Sally, if you read any sort of story online, most of them credit the names if you use celebrities. I also think that you shouldn't really use people you know's name's since all it does is cause arguments. Sure you could probably a friends name here and there, but when almost every story uses their names it's a little I don't know..

Heh, that's funny! I just came to this forum to make a thread on NaNoWriMo and ask if anyone else was going to do it! Glad to know it won't just me me from the Neo crew this year.

Writing humour might be a good idea- it's what I did last year, and I managed to complete the 50,000 words. Having said that, I am gonna try something more serious this time.

Figured I'd put this here rather than start another thread for it...I'm curious if anyone knows of some good writing-related podcasts by authors offering advice, their own stories, etc. I just started listening to one called "I Should Be Writing", which is a podcast for "wanna-be-fiction writers by a wanna-be-fiction writer" hosted by Mur Lafferty (a woman), who has written a number of fiction stories and done at least 6 free audiobooks among other works (I recently started listening to her latest, a superhero-themed story called Playing For Keeps). She offers advice to writers and has some good stories to share, I checked her out after the FDO constantly put her over and figured if it's good enough for General Siglerismo it's good enough for me.

I was kinda bored and reading through some of the pages. I noticed the bit about role-playing and joint stories.

Ever since high school, I've thought of joint stories and rolepays as completely different things.

I've always thought joint stories were ones where one person wrote a chapter and then the other person wrote a chapter (or something similar to that) or one wrote a chapter and then the other revised it and added other bits in or changed bits etc.

Role-plays were where each person wrote about their own character as you can find in the role-play forum.

I actually wanted to try doing a joint with someone on neo (someone write a chapter then send it via PM etc. etc. until we agree it's good to post up) because I don't want to post any I've written myself because at the moment the grammar is probably appauling. The problem is the joints are so similar to role-play and not the joints I would write. I've backed out of the idea completely and I'll probably never find anyone who'd even do a joint like I would.

I'm going to admit, I'm guilty of "OMG YOU'RE SUCH A GOOD WRITER KEEP GOING!" even though I've posted a total of 5 posts and those were either posts I made because I was begged/forced to or because I wanted to tell someone I read their story and they shouldn't stop posting because of lack of comments. Either way I don't have an excuse and I'm guilty of it. Thinking of it now, if I did post a story, I'd shoot anyone who posted that.

Other than the things pointed out by Victimised, such as not giving credit when using song titles as the title for your story, another thing that really annoys me is: when I'm reading stories wth posts that are a few sentences' long and the posts are posted one after another every 10 minutes or so for hours. If the posts were longer and they weren't posted so often I wouldn't mind but in my mind it's just a way of increasing post count.

I've sort of wanted to voice out the last bit for a while.

I'm gonna sound like a total dumb (I leave it at that) but can someone explain what a parody is to me? The chances are I know what it is, just not in this language.

I was thinking about trying to do something for NaNoWriMo but I don't think it'll be this year. I'm going to wait until I get a bit better at writing. ^^

A parody is something which is basically an imitation of an existing person place or thing, and using satire and exaggeration mocks and belittles the original. Like I could create a character called Bush George, and then make his response to any problem to send in thousands of troops. To mock the current President of the USA.

What is this NaNoWriMo I've been hearing about? Some sort of writing comp?
