The Human Race's Last Hope [TEEN] {C&C Wanted} |
|
Notes about the story: The title might be subject to change. I'm not sure about it yet. Anyway...
This story just kind of came to me one night as a dream. This is not the first time that this has happened, and this is not the first time I've decided to write bits of a story down. This is, however, the first time I've decided to post my story on neoseeker, or at least try to finish it. I'm slightly nervous about it, so don't be too mean please. ._. As I said, this story came to me in a dream, and for about a full hour after I awakened, I could hear Leena and Mark arguing in my head. Fun little useless fact: In my dream, the protagonists' names were actually Lisa and Mike, but I decided to change them to Leena and Mark, because I like those names better. Now, enough of my jabbering. ONTO THE STORY! They were running down a brightly lit hallway, hand in hand. The boy was leading, the girl running as hard as she could to keep from being dragged.
"Huff, huff, huff, where's the end of this thing?" the girl said as the pair was running down a seemingly endless hallway. The boy looked down an adjacent hallway and saw more people running after them. "It's not that way. Keep going straight Leena!" The two of them run ahead some more. "Help, help us!" The cry came from behind a door just as they had passed it. Leena let go of the boy's hand and stopped in front of it, staring curiously at it. "Wait, Mark, come here," she said to her companion, still staring at the door. "Leena, those guys are going to catch up to us if we don't hurry! What the hell are you doing?" he then asked and stared at the door as well. "There are people trapped in here. We have to save them." Leena grabs the door handle and turns it, but the door is locked. Frustrated, she proceeds to tug at the doorknob. "Dammit, this door is locked!" Mark looks down the hallway to see that the people chasing them are catching up. "Just leave it, Leena, those guys are going to be here any second, we have to go!" He grabs Leena's hand and tries to run. "No, Mark, we can't leave them!" Leena tries to resist being pulled but Mark is much bigger and stronger than she, and ends up being dragged across the floor a few feet before Mark realizes she does not want to budge. He looks into her eyes, and sees her silent plea. He sighs. "Fine, I'll get the door open." "Yay!" Leena happily exclaimed. "Just stand back, okay?" Leena nods and backs up against the wall opposite the door. Mark slams his shoulder into the door a few times, and sees the door frame start to splinter. One more hit should do it, he thinks to himself, and gives the door a strong kick. The door breaks away from the frame and crashes to the floor. The pair then proceeds inside the room. Mysteriously, once they are inside, the door stands itself back in the frame and locks once more. Leena looked desperately around the room, completely empty except for a tattered red curtain hanging in the middle of the room, for the people she heard, but no one else is in the room. "Wait, I know I heard people in here, where are they?" she asks as she turns around wildly in place.
"They're right there," Mark says and points to a mirror on the wall. The mirror shows the protagonists, both dirty and sweaty from their flee from the enemy. Leena, five feet and two inches tall, was very thin, with a willow-like appearance. Her long, straight black hair came down just past her hips, with wild streaks of purple. Mark was almost the exact opposite of her in appearance. He towered over her at six feet. He was lean and slightly built looking, with blonde hair that looked almost white in the light. "Pssh, Mark, that's just us," Leena replied, obviously not understanding what Mark meant. "I bet they're behind that curtain over there." She made her way toward the curtain, but Mark grabbed her arm to stop her. "Wait, Leena. What if something horrible is behind that curtain?" Mark started, but was interrupted. "There went in here! Where's the damn key to this door, huh!?" The duo could hear shouting and banging on the other side of the door. Noticing that Mark was caught off guard momentarily, she jerked his arm and the two of them fell through the curtain. The two fell through the curtain and hit the floor on the other side. "Dammit, Leena, what the hell do you think you're doing!?" Mark stood up, and looked at Leena, and a shocked look came over his face.
"I'm sorry, but I know that I heard people in...here," Leena said, looking at Mark in amazement. They then both looked in a mirror that was on this side of the curtain, and it revealed that their appearances had changed. Mark was now about five feet and eight inches, and his hair had grown a little longer and was brown in color. He was also a little stockier looking. Leena was also a bit stockier looking, but she had also grown. She was now about five foot five, and her hair was now just above her shoulders, with no purple streaks. They both stared in silence for a few moments before Leena exclaimed, "WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO MY HAIR!?" She ran back through the other side of the curtain, but that only made her hair turn white, so she walked back through it again. "Leena, calm down, it's not a big deal," Mark said trying to comfort her. "Not a big deal? NOT A BIG DEAL!? I HAVE NEVER ONCE CUT MY HAIR, NOT ONCE, AND NOW IT'S ALL GONE! HOW CAN YOU TELL ME TO CALM DOWN AT A TIME LIKE THIS!?" "Well, I said that going through the curtain was a bad...now Leena, don't look at me like that," Mark said as he saw a look of pure hatred on Leena's face. Just then they heard a voice on the other side of the door say, "Well, it's about damn time! Gimme that key!" "Oh, crap! Mark, we gotta go!" Leena exclaimed. She grabbed his arm and was spinning right when the door open. HOME she thought as loudly as she could. They were starting to disappear. "Oh no you don't!" shouted one of their enemies and he shot at them with his gun, hitting Leena's left ankle just as the disappeared. Leena had her eyes squinted shut. Are we home?
"What the hell are you kids doing in my car!?" someone yelled. Leena's eyes shot open. She sees that Mark and herself are in the back seat of a car. The owner of the car was in the driver's seat, his body turned around toward them. Mark was trying to open the door. "You kids get out of my car right now!" the man shouted, an ugly vain bulging on top of his bald head. "We would, if you'd unlock the damn door," Mark growled, just as he broke the door handle. "Wha-? You broke my door!" The man was even angrier. "Just unlock the friggin' car so we can get the hell outta here!" While they were arguing, Leena quietly slipped her arm in the gap between the driver's seat and the door, and unlocked the car. The two were arguing so loudly that they did not hear the click. She opened her side of the door and climbed out of the car, the two still not noticing her at all. "Hello, hellooo...HEEEEEY!!!" Leena yelled over the din. Both men looked shocked when they saw the open door. "Mark, can we go now?" Mark, embarrassed, climbs out of the car. "Hey, where the hell do you two think you're going? You still have to pay for the damage you've done to my car!" Leena leans back into the car and hands him five one hundred dollar bills. Using her sweetest face and voice, she says, "Here, take this. It should cover the damage, right?" "Uhh...yeah, this will cover it just fine. Say, what's your name, sweetie?" "Oh, it's-!" "She's a minor, you damn pervert," Mark said, his eyes giving the man a cold stare. He grabbed Leena's arm and they walked off. After going several steps, however, Leena suddenly cried out in pain. "Oww, my ankle!" she fell clutching her left ankle. "What, what's wrong?" Mark crouched down to see what was wrong. On her ankle was a small mark, that looks like a burn mark, but other than that, he could see nothing wrong. "Well, it doesn't look too bad. Do you think you can still...Leena!" Leena felt her eyes close, and for a second, everything went black. When she came back into consciousness, she felt like she was moving, but she could barely move at all. She looked up to see that Mark was carrying her and running as fast as he could. "Mark," she said weakly, "what's going on?" "Those bastards shot you with one of those strength draining guns right as you teleported. That's probably why the destination was a little off. Don't worry, we'll be home in a few minutes." "No, we can't just walk through the front door! If we don't teleport in, the protective barrier falters, and they can just follow us inside. Lemme try one more time to..." "NO!" Mark shouted. "Who knows what will happen to you if you try to teleport again!?" "Well, worst case scenario, she could die," said a voice behind them. Mark looked up to see that the two of them were completely surrounded by their enemies. He turned to face the leader. The leader of the group was about the same age as Mark, and the two of them looked very similar, except that from one look at the leader any stranger could tell that he was evil down to his core. "Look, there's no escape," the leader said. "If she tries to do anything, she might never recover from it. If you truly want to protect her, hand her over." "Over my dead body, Damian!" Mark shouted, holding Leena tighter in his arms. "M-Mark, spin around," Leena whispered. "What? Are you crazy!? No!" "Mark, please...it's...the only way we can...get out of this mess." "But, what if you-" he could not bring himself to say the word. "I'll be okay, I promise. Now, please..." Mark thought about it for another moment, then quickly spun around. Before the enemy could react, they were gone. re: The Human Race's Last Hope [TEEN] {C&C Wanted} |

Mark opened his eyes and saw the familiar furniture of their home. As dim and pitiful as it looked, he was still glad to be back. He looked down at Leena, whom he was still carrying, and made sure she was still alive. Thank God. I don't know what I'd do if she were to- but he could not even think the thought, so he carried her upstairs to her room.
He opened the door to Leena's room, and had to step over piles of trash and dirty laundry to get to her unmade bed. Geez, Leena, you could clean every once in awhile, he thought while rolling his eyes. He laid her down her bed and covered her with a blanket. He then went to his bathroom to take a shower. After about five minutes in the shower, he began to feel a tingling feeling, starting in his extremities and working its way to his core. He did not think too much about it. When he got out of the shower, however, he noticed his hair was back to it's regular color, white blonde, and he was his own height again. He shrugged it off and got dressed. After his shower, Mark went back into Leena's room. He dug into the biggest pile of laundry and found a chair, which he pulled up so it was next to the bed. Leena was still asleep, so he decided to sit there and wait for her to wake up. While he was sitting there, his mind started to wander, and he decided he would try to remember all the events up to the current moment. It all started sixteen years ago. Mark, three years old, was standing in the middle of chaos. Adults were rushing around everywhere. He saw his dad come over to him. "Come on Mark, let's go into the next room, where it's not so crowded. There's something I have to tell you." His dad took his hand and led him into a small storage room and shut the door behind them. "Dad, what's going on? I've never seen so many people here before. And there are doctors too. Why are doctors here?" Mark inquired. Mark's father crouched down so he was at eye level with the child. "Look, Mark, you know what our family's job is, right?" "Of course," Mark replied. "Our job is to protect the Belvidere family at any cost." "Correct. Now, Mark, do you know why it's our job to protect them?" Mark shook his head. "Well, a long time ago, our family, the Ackermans, were in big trouble with debt collectors. At the time, we were all just peasant farmers. But, because it was the food that we grew that fed the entire town, the Belvideres, the richest family town, pitied us, and offered to buy our farm from us and pay off all of our debt. But, they split up our land and sold it to many different families, which angered us. To get revenge, one of your great ancestors tried to kill one of the Belvideres. He failed, but the consequence was that he and all of his descendants was cursed to protect any Belvidere's life with his or her own. "Now, I'll tell you what all the commotion is about. Mrs. Belvidere...well, she isn't doing well." Mark's eyes widened. "Is her baby going to be okay?" "They're trying to see about that right now, but the doctor I spoke to said the baby should be fine. But, it seems that Mrs. Belvidere can't take the stress of childbirth, and she might not make it. However, I have some more important news for you." Mark looked at his father expectantly. "It is Mrs. Belvidere's dying wish for you to be the baby's guardian. Do you know what that means?" Mark shook his head, then thought about it for a moment. "Is it like how you are always around Mr. Belvidere, and you go with him whenever he leaves the estate?" "Yes, it is just like that. From the moment that the baby is born, he, or she, will become your full responsibility. You are to protect this new Belvidere with your life. Do you understand?" "Yes father, and I will protect them with my life, no matter what happens." "Okay, well, when the baby is born, there will be a ceremony between the two of you and Mr. Belvidere and myself, making this all official." Just then, a nurse walked in. Mark's father immediately stood up. They spoke with low voices, and Mark could not hear them. Then the nurse left the room, and Mark's father turned to him. "Well, come on, the baby has been born. We must go to the Ceremony Room immediately." Mark followed his father out off the storage room and down the hallway to the Ceremony Room, but they were stopped in the hallway by Mark's older brother. "Dad, where are you going with Mark?" the five year old asked. "I believe that is none of your business, Damian, now go to your room." "You guys are going to the Ceremony Room, aren't you?" he then looked very angry. "I thought I was supposed to be this kid's guardian! What ever happened to that!?" "Damian," his father said slowly, "it was Mrs. Belvidere's dying wish that Mark be the child's guardian. We can't go against a mother's dying wish for her child." Damian stared angrily at his father for a few moments, then stalked off. "Come on, Mark," his father said, "we have to go." They continued walking until they came to the Ceremony Room. Inside, he saw Mr. Belvidere holding a baby wrapped in a white blanket in the center of the room, standing next to a pillar with a small pouch sitting on it, it's drawstring closed. Mark took his father's hand and they walked to the center of the room. When they reached Mr. Belvidere, he handed Mark the baby. "Here, Mark, you have to hold her during the ceremony. Her name is Leena." Mark did not say anything, he just stared at her huge blue eyes in amazement, seeing his own green eyes reflected back. He knew from the moment he first held her in his arms that he loved her. The rest of the ceremony went by in a blur, he barely remembered any of it. Mark's mind shifted forward from that day, and he saw scenes of his childhood, and in every memory, Leena was there somewhere. He saw her third birthday, where she stuck her whole face into her humongous cake, and her first day of school, at which they were both nervous wrecks, and the time when Leena was seven, they were playing in a tree and she fell and broke her arm, Mark felt his heart rip in two because he could not save her in time. He thought about just last year, when Leena and he ran away from the estate and bought a small house to hide in. And then he thought about the most recent events. He told Leena not to go looking for Damian, but she sneaked away from him and went anyway. She found his hideout, and was going to try and talk him out of some world domination scheme he was planning, but she ended up being captured by his followers. Mark had just barely found her in time, and the two had just barely escaped with their lives. He sighed. Leena gets me into so much trouble... He looked down at Leena, still asleep. He had laid his hand down on her bed unconsciously, and when he looked at it now he noticed that Leena's hand was holding it gently, her small delicate fingers wrapped around his. He sighed once more, then leaned his head back against the wall, and fell asleep. You can remember all of this from a dream? I can't remember anything from mine. XD
Just a thing, though: A three-year-old having to be the guardian of a newborn? That seems a bit unrealistic to me, and how the three-year-old knows and understands so much of what was going on. Also, in the second-to-last update, Leena yells "HEY". There's no need for the three exclamation marks, no matter how angry or asdfak your character is, there is only need for one, maybe two exclamation marks. Lastly, the story doesn't necessarily flow too well. One moment they're running, next they look different, in a car, in a house, flashback... but then again, if this was based off of a dream, dreams don't flow too well. I remember once I had this completely random dream, but I won't go into that right now. It's your story, not mine. Other than that, it's an interesting story. Continue soon plz? :3 ------------------- With the powers of ice cream and pie, two alchemists will open a world-famous dessert shop.

Well, the dream actually went from the first post to the second to last one, and there was a motorcycle chase (
Yes, it is really hard getting dreams to flow well, and sometimes I just get tired of typing. =/ I love the !, sorry. ;-; I agree, three is a bit young to be a guardian, but newborns don't really go anywhere, so she stayed home as a baby, and the Belvidere estate has armed guards, and Ackermans are all trained heavily in martial arts as soon as they can walk. :3 Plus, I didn't want a huge age difference between the protagonists, as you will see soon, when I get around to posting the next part. XD I appreciate all the criticism though. ------------------- With the powers of ice cream and pie, two alchemists will open a world-famous dessert shop.

Yeah, dreams don't typically flow well. But ad-lib a bit, try to get it to flow a bit more. =3 But lol @ motorcycle chase.
True, newborns don't really go anywhere, but I just think that Mark would have had some help, because when Leena would have reached toddlerhood, Mark would just be a child. So when he was six, she'd be three, which would be bit hard to take care of, a six-year-old looking after a three-year-old. Glad that I can help with criticism. :3 /usually just says "omg moar". ------------------- With the powers of ice cream and pie, two alchemists will open a world-famous dessert shop.

Leena awoke with a gnawing feeling in her stomach and a slight headache. "Good morning, sleepyhead," a voice said above her. She squinted upward and saw that it was Mark, who looked...normal. Hold the phone, Leena thought. She quickly reached her hand up and felt her hair. It was still short.
"Okay, why do you look like yourself and I still look like this?" Leena asks. I don't know," Mark said, "But I changed sometime while I was taking a shower." "Okay then, I'll go take a shower." Leena goes to stand up, but is overwhelmed by dizziness. She sits down on the edge of her bed and clutches her head. "Wow, how long was I out?" "Hmm," Mark checks his watch, "about twelve hours." “WHAT!?” Leena shot out of bed. She runs halfway across her room, then stops in place. “Did you…you didn’t happen to…clean my room, did you?” The room was spotless. All of the clothes were gone, as was the trash. The books on the bookshelf were lined neatly on the shelves in alphabetical order. Everything else was neatly put back in its appropriate place. “Uh, yeah. It was nasty in here,” Mark replied bluntly. “Urgh, now I’ll never be able to find anything!” Leena throws her hands up in defeat, then heads out the door to her bathroom. Mark sits there for a few moments until he hears the water running in the bathroom. He gets up, makes Leena’s bed out of spite, and goes downstairs to fix lunch. Ugh, that Mark, he treats me like such a baby! Leena thought as she turned on the hot water full blast. She took off her clothes while waiting for it to heat up, then stepped into the shower, burning herself in the process. She screamed, but kept on showering. After standing under the water for a few minutes, she could feel her body turn back to normal. She was waiting for her hair to become long again so she could shampoo it properly. She started to smell food cooking, and the ache in her stomach grew. Ugh, I’m so hungry... She quickly rinsed herself off and hopped out of the shower. After drying off, she wrapped a towel around her head and went into her room to change, but could not find her clothes. She runs to the top of the stairs and yells down, “Mark, where are my clothes!?” “In your closet, where they’re supposed to be,” Mark yelled back. Leena runs back into her room and opens her closet door to reveal all of her clothes neatly hanging inside. She runs back to the stairs and yells, “Kay, thanks!” A couple of minutes later Leena runs downstairs just as Mark is taking the food off the stove. “Ooh, fried bologna and macaroni and cheese, my favorite!” Leena exclaims when she sees the food. (Author's note: I do not encourage this food combination.) She grabs a plate from the cupboard, puts some food on the plate, sits down, and starts eating. Mark does the same. A few minutes into the meal, Mark speaks up. “So, what do you think about tomorrow?” “Wah abou tomowow?” Leena asks after stuffing half of her bologna in her mouth. “Leena, don’t talk with your mouth full,” Mark reprimands. Leena quickly swallows the lump of food. “Sorry, Mom,” she says sarcastically, rolling her eyes. “What about tomorrow?” “You mean you don’t remember that you have school tomorrow?” Leena momentarily froze, then quickly ran out of the room. Mark, expecting this, was right behind her. He grabbed her from behind and picked her up before she could open the front door. She started kicking her legs furiously. “Let me go! I won’t go, ya hear me!? You can’t make me!” She squirmed and kicked and yelled until she was exhausted. When she finally ceased moving, Mark set her down on the couch and sat down himself on the coffee table in front of it. She immediately tried to run off, but Mark close lined her, and she fell back onto the couch. “Leena, you’re sixteen. You have to go to school,” Mark said, trying to sound nice, though his exasperation was showing through his voice. “But I HATE school,” Leena pouted. “I don’t see why, you always make excellent grades with practically no effort.” “And everyone always makes fun of me because of it. They also make fun of my hair. Nobody would ever believe me when I told them it was my natural hair color.” “But you’re going to a new school. This school is so different from your last one. It’s a public school, so you can wear whatever you want, and I went to the campus the other day, and there were other kids there with…different hair colors. Trust me, things will be a lot different at this school. Plus, I’ll be in your class, so if you need anything, I won’t be far away.” Leena looked slightly shocked at this news. “How’d you manage that?” “Fake ID,” Mark smirked. “Oh yeah,” Mark pulled out a driver’s license from his pocket, “I got one for you too. From now on, in public, your name is Mary, and mine’s Peter, okay?” “Where’s Paul?” Leena asked, grinning, and took the ID. “Haha, very funny,” Mark rolled his eyes. “Ok, so will you go to school?” Leena sighed. “I guess so.” Suddenly, she gets an idea. “Heeey, since this is a driver’s license, does that mean I can…” “No,” Mark replied before she could finish her question. “You cannot drive. Besides, the school is only a couple of blocks away, so we’ll be walking.” “Damn,” Leena playfully snaps her fingers. Mark heads into the kitchen to clean up the food. I really hope she isn’t planning on causing any trouble... He sighed at the thought. I wonder what kind of trouble I can cause at this new school…Leena giggled at the thought, then headed up to her room to mess it up again. re: The Human Race's Last Hope [TEEN] {C&C Wanted} |

It was seven thirty the next morning. Mark was up and dressed in a pair of blue jeans, a navy blue T-Shirt, and gray tennis shoes. He was standing just outside of Leena’s bedroom. He softly knocked on her door and called out, “Leena, it’s nearly time for school, let’s go. Leena?” He put his ear to the door, and heard a faint beeping noise. Realizing at once what it was, he growled, “Dammit Leena!” He sighed and said to himself, “I should’ve known she’d be like this…” He opened her bedroom door to see that it was still dark inside. The alarm clock on the nightstand was blaring, and Leena was peacefully unconscious in her bed. Mark took a deep breath and yelled, “Leena, get up NOW!”
“Mrf,” Leena mumbled, and rolled over in her bed. Mark sighed again, and walked over to the bed. He grabbed Leena’s shoulder and lightly shook her, which did nothing, so he shook her a little harder. Still, it did nothing. Mark, getting frustrated, grabs both of her shoulders and shakes her violently, but this only causes Leena to snore slightly, so he stops. Suddenly, he comes up with an idea, and whispers something in her ear. Her eyes immediately popped open. “Wait for me, Johnny!” She blinks a couple of times, then looks at Mark with curiosity. “Finally, you’re up. Come on, it’s seven thirty-five, and school starts at eight o’clock sharp. You’d better be ready to leave in fifteen minutes. I’ll fix some toast to eat on the way.” Mark gets up to leave. “Oh,” he adds, “and you’d better not even think about laying back down; it took me forever to get you up in the first place.” Leena, who was starting to lay back down, shot straight up. “Wait, Mark,” Leena said. Mark stopped walking. “So…Johnny Depp’s not really downstairs waiting for me?” Mark had to put a hand against the wall, the other against his mouth, to keep from laughing out loud. “Uhh, Mark, why are you shaking? Is something wrong?” Leena gets up and walks over to him. Her concerned look quickly turns to rage when she sees his face quickly turning red. “Mark, you bastard, you lied to me!” She pushes him, and he loses his grip on the wall, and busts out laughing. “It’s not funny!” Leena kicks him in the side. “Ow! But, you actually believed me!” Mark continues laughing hysterically, tears now forming in his eyes. “I hate you! Get out of my room, now!” Mark slowly stands up, and Leena punches him in the arm as he leaves, and slams the door behind him. Damn him, getting my hopes up like that…She fumes for another moment, and then heads to her closet to get dressed. She grabs a pair of blue jeans, a Back to the Future T-Shirt that her dad got her for Christmas last year, and black and blue tennis shoes. She goes into her bathroom, brushes her teeth, and combs her hair. She runs back into her room, puts on her favorite bracelets, grabs her bag, and heads downstairs. Mark is just taking some toast out of the toaster. “Ooh, toast!” Leena says, and makes a grab for a slice. Mark quickly holds the toast above his head. “Now, what do we say to people that we kick?” Leena tries jumping, but Mark’s too tall for her to reach. She sighs and says, “I’m sorry I kicked you, but tricked me. Now, can I please have a piece of toast?” Mark grins, and hands her a piece. “Good enough. Now, before you start eating,” he begins, “we have to get going.” “Oh yeah, that’s right. So, how exactly are we going to leave? We can’t just walk out the front door.” “Actually, it’s pretty simple. You’re just going to teleport us into the backyard. That way, no one will see us.” Leena then grabbed Mark’s arm, and the two spun around in place. They momentarily disappeared, then reappeared right outside. They walked around the house to the sidewalk, then proceeded to walk to school, eating their toast at the same time. After walking for about five minutes, the school was in sight. Meh, a little bit of writer's block atm, but I wanted to post this. Also, if you're wondering what Leena's T-Shirt looks like, it's this, only in black. ;D Any kind of comments or criticism is greatly appreciated, as always.
