Writer's Lounge (Rules ver. 1.5)
|
I know this has been needed to be done for awhile now, and now I'm getting to it. I am sorry for the long delay in the matter, but as you know RP forum isn't exactly the most easiest thing to handle with a dozen things going on at once. Nowo n to more important matters, this being the forum rules.
1. Stories and Poetry are to not have heavy sexual content or swearing. These type of stories will be either closed, or deleted from the forum depending on the weight of the given material.
2. Stories are required to have a rating. By now, you all should know the standard ratings for stories, and even movies. You shouldn't have no trouble putting your story into a certain rating.
3. When you post either Poetry or Stories please tag the thread with the word Poetry or Story in some manner of way.
4. If you want comments, please designate where you want the comments to be recieved from. It could either be in the thread, in NeoPM, or in the COmment Box.
5. I have also took to note material that can poetentially offend other people. This could be simply avoided by having the person make certain they don't put one religion, race, sex, etc over another. Anything that is ridiculing in one of the mentioned areas should be reported, and have the moderator look over it.
6. Another note, please use the report future if you find posts that are unacceptable, or seek to clean out your thread of any unwanted talk. The posts will be looked at, and deleted. When you are reporting please leave a note as to why you are deleting it.
7. If you have any questions about how to put a banner in your signature, or fix your avatar please go to the questions forum that is down in the Site Related part of the Neoseeker Forum. These will be deleted, and ignored.
8. Spam is unacceptable, those who post spam will be banned for 10 days, and the thread deleted no matter the number of people who have posted in it.
9. Another thing to point out is that this forum is also for Writer's Discussion, and you are incouraged to make threads of such with the WD tag on the thread title.
More Coming Soon...
Please PM any questions, comments and what not to the forum moderators. Suggestions are greatly welcomed.

Added Rules 10 and 11
10. Post all poetry in only one thread, and don't make a seperate thread for each poem you wanna show. Post it all in one thread. This is so the stories won't be pushed back as Poetry is one of the main things I see coming into the forum.
11. Fan Fiction will be taken into a bit more tighter watch, and anything that seems rather like it's not (em...what to say) put together to well, will be closed. Meaning if it lacks the idea and composition of an actual story, it'll be closed. Especially pieces that seem like nothing more then a single paragraph, that's not a story, just a paragraph.

Announcement:
Everyong as of current I am going to encourage the use of WD (Writer's Discussion) threads as a means to get help writing stories and such. I know everyone would like for me to start working on tutorials and what not, but the problem is I'm not a world-class writer who knows all the ins and outs of writing. Nor do I have the time to comprise tutorials as there are far to many sorts of tutorials that can be done in accordance with story, poetry, and script writing. Please consider that not everything is as easy as you wish it can be.
Those who would like to write tutorials, how ever, please write them in a .txt file and e-mail them as attachments to MarionetteAngel@AOL.com. This participation is encouraged to help bring about some new stuff for the Writer's Longue.
Thanks.
Angel.

Hmmm... can't threads just be marked with mature subject matter instead of forbidding it outright?

It has been an unofficial rule since way back during our lovely AiS's time; under the general rule to thumb, if it sounds too offensive dont post it. She used to mod them on an invividual basis, but for quite some time this forum receives general moderation.
Again if you dont think you should post it, as it is overly offensive, dont.
A good example of a Mature theme would be a story that adds 20 pages in lets say a rascist character to the mix, for storyline development. That would be fine. However starting a story about hating various ethnic classes is not fine.
Also as to the 11 y/o, parents should moderate what their children do(see, hear) online.
The thread note, label is primarily for helping readers know what they are clicking before they click it(appropriateness included).
In general a little common sense goes a long way. Have fun and enjoy your stay in the writer's lounge =).

Can there be play-on threads? For example: I'd start with "There was a bunny." Then, someone else would reply "Who's name was Bob." And yet, somebody could respond with "And his friend was a turtle." And so on.
I'm kinda new to this forum so please don't criticise me.

(That's really a forum-wide rule because such threads in other forums always get closed)

No almost about it. That sounds like nothing but a glorified popcorn thread and a spam-fest waiting to happen. Tell you what I would allow though: If you guys want to star a continuing story thread where one member writes a paragraph, and I mean a MINIMUM of one paragraph, and then the next poster continues it, then the next person continues after that, that would be fine.
However, that could also degenerate into pure SPAM and reckless members could completely derail the story with nonsense paragraphs about green cheese or completely out of context absurdity. I would heavily regulate a thread like that and if started, I would expect a modicum of maturity and intelligence to be adhered to.

When you say no swearing or sexual content in rule 1, doesn't that make rule 2 pretty pointless? There's no reason for a PG13 rating if PG13-rated content isn't allowed, now is there?
I can't really think of a way to even write a PG13 story without swearing. If it requires a rating, it should be allowed the content for which the rating is required. At the very least, are the words Damn and Hell allowed to be used? They aren't derogatory or insulting. There's no logic in using the argument that "Oh no, some 11-year-old will read it." I don't know any child over the age of 10 who hasn't heard those words a hundred times.

I can almost assure you, anyone who partook in said thread would be a farcry from the spamming sort. We had one going on at one point, I lost track of it but reading this reminded me of it. I was interested in trying one but never got around to it.

can you explain rule #11 more please. What do you mean? Are you saying fictional stories are not allowed?

No, Archimonde, it's about Fan Fiction. Basically what it says is that if you're writing Fan Fiction, it should be a serious work a not something like:
Sephiroth came back from the death and killed people with his katana so cloud and the gang got back together and defeated him.
That of course is quite extreme, but you get the point.
