It's usually spelt "el café azul," but that's not the point. Suddenly, I don't like the title anymore. Thanks a lot, you just ruined that for me (although it is nice to know more about French Grammar, even if I still don't know what the hell they're saying). Also, I seem to like the Spanish translation of the thread title more. Each day my love for the language grows more.
Sorry to drift away from the current topic, but which do you prefer: Spanish or French? El Español vs. le français. (grammar?)
It would be quite interesting to see how many Hispanophones and Francophones we have here.

Sorry to drift away from the current topic, but which do you prefer: Spanish or French? El Español vs. le français. (grammar?) Unless this is only directed towards halo, I'd like to jump in. Languages are, after all, easily one of my greatest interests. I read Spanish decently, though with effort, and in speaking my level is probably low conversational. My French is worse (not entirely nonexistent, but as I mentioned before, pretty terrible). I'm very interested in both at the moment because I'll be needing them- to varying degrees- in the near future. As for my preference... well, that's not an easy question. I like the sound of Spanish more than French, but my personal interest in French is greater than in Spanish. Actually, French is like Swedish for me in that sense, holding the most interest for me in a purely philological sense.

No, most of what I say can be applied to everyone. I was speaking to every person that read the post, anyway.

I think I prefer French. It is more free flowing. Its a lot more fluid than Spanish. I know that spanish quite practical, but when it comes to languages, I will always take the road less traveled, and where I come from French is the road less traveled, though I tend to stick to latin (and latin based) languages. Even though my best language right now is Ojibwe...

I wish I'd have taken French in school. I took Latin, and now that I'm exiting my high school years it seems all my friends can show off to me fluently.

Also, I seem to like the Spanish translation of the thread title more. Well I think you would like the title better if it was correct. Would you like the title any if it was "El Azul Café"?

Spanish is cake, and it's the language of the Caribbean. What more beautiful a spot on Earth than the gentle sway of the expansive, turquoise Caribbean sea?

I've just noticed something, and now that I have noticed it it is going to bug the hell out of me every time I see it.
"Writer's Lounge." The apostrophe is in the wrong place - it should be after the S, there is more than one writer. Same problem with the title of this thread.

Can someone give me some tips for writing songs? Fall in love with a girl, and have her break your heart...the songs just keep flowing then (ha at my bitter jokes).
but as for real tips. It depends on the type of song, rap songs have shorter lines and they rhyme the same sound for several lines. Mostly its just the rhymes that matter. As long as you can make it flow, and put a beat to it, you have a perfectly good song.

I seem to have grown this habit for only reading pre 20th century works, or at least stories with voices that sound pre-modern... I'm actually afraid this might affect my writing (especially school). And I'm wondering whether there's going to be a potential market for stories with a pre-20th century premise in the future... Do you think it would do me that bad?

lol Scott trust you to notice something like that
anyways here is an excerpt of a novel I am working on (the one promoted in my sig)
ladies & gentlemen, boys & girls I present to you the beginning of Paradise Province. The place where good and evil don't mix:
"Paradise! One's interpretation of their desires, their wants...and their needs. Where no fears haunt them and where their happiness never ends. Can such a place exist? A Utopia not for one but for all?"
A slender built man raises an arm in front of him and glides it from left to right before his audience to signify who he is talking about. He then moves his hand to his beard and strokes it calmly as his beady brown eyes stare at each member that sits about the grand oak table, the table itself stretches almost twelve feet long which can easily seat at most twenty people, though only six are seated. Mutters are passed back and forth before the speaker continues.
"My friends...comrades in arms, you wish to know what I speak of...well it is simple, I say we make a pact...an alliance of the seven kingdoms within this province...for too long war has been waged amongst us all, valuable men under our command have perished for...no reason and our people have shared their losses as much as us...If we combine our kingdoms, imagine the trade...the commerce and the aid if any of our borders were to come under attack from external sources...I am speaking of a province that work together...we do not have to agree with each other but what is the point of fighting each other?"
Again mutters and murmurs pass from one seat to the next, around the enormous room soldiers within different armours stand around the walls, with another soldier at the side of their king or queen, as the slender king strokes his beard once more, another clears his throat, standing while running a hand down his armour and inserting it between the leather hardened chest piece and his own chest...tension arises from all soldiers except three which belong to the king that stands yet the hand stays where it is placed.
"my young king Adamen, I have not spoken with the rest of the leaders here, yet I sense the same haze which seems to be covering this idea…tell me my old friend...how can each and every person seek paradise by us joining as one?"
"Ha-ha HA King Homth you flatter me but this is where you all come into this plan, you see for centuries, Cenu...this province has been plagued by never-ending battles...as you can see, even now each soldier is on edge just by your simple nervous twitch which you hide by placing your hand under your armour...though because we all know of that, each soldier has been briefed to not attack out of reflex...thus if one did, enemies would rise faster than the dead overcome by the most powerful necromancer...my friends, my sages inform me that for paradise to occur...peace must be spread through our kingdoms...once that is done, paradise within each kingdom occurs, each paradise is decided through the moulding of its king...or queen"
King Homth nods for the answer and is seated once again but now a woman takes the stand, dressed within an ever flowing silky blue gown, trimmed with gold and her crown crested with sapphires and emeralds, it is hard to not know her favourite colour yet three things strike fear in every man that is graced with her presence, first her temper, second her decorated brunette hair which is graced by a thin gold veil lined with tiny emeralds and third the constant and cold glazed stare of the emerald green eyes. She curtsies to King Adamen who in return bows; the glossy red lips of Queen Gaen part slightly to speak.
"My honourable host, I understand your proposal but I am not understanding the intention...why the sudden attention of all our kingdoms and this so called Paradise? If I am correct, you wish for the seven of us to become allies who will initiate seven paradises that have their outcomes determined for the people by...our intentions? Forgive my crudeness but isn't that exactly what we are doing...without the alliance?"
Queen Gaen stares deep into the eyes of King Adamen, in reflex he gives a little shudder yet underneath the bushy grey beard a grin emerges, a silence is thrown over the table until each person glances at one another and in unison shout "here, here!"...Dumbstruck King Adamen looks between each of his fellow leaders and sighs. From behind King Adamen, footsteps approach and then a figure, the first to clasp eyes upon the figure is the Queen herself who simply shifts her stare from one man to the other.
The figure stands beside King Adamen at six foot two inch and a broad and very muscular body frame, a shiny and slightly washed bloodstained silver chest plate covers his chest and back, the edges trimmed with gold and the crest of a silver wolf snarling is embedded into it. Nothing covers his arms or shoulders except battle scars and his legs, feet and groin are covered with the same metal and designed the same. The figure removes the fearful wolf skull which has been chromed and has two enchanted red rubies that glow within the eye sockets to reveal the face, a scar runs diagonally over his right eye as stubble can be seen around his chin and mouth, his skin is smooth and his head is shaven. His eyes are as deep as the blue ocean which glance around at the guests before taking a moment to stare back at the Queen, the helmet now placed under his left arm while a golden hilt protrudes at an angle from the right of his hip, two more can be seen at either side of his head, if viewed from the back it can be seen as two long swords in an X over his back.
He turns then nods to the King who returns the nod before addressing the King's guests.
"I am Hector, King Adamen's right hand man, sworn protector and leader of the Hell's Elite"
He walks down two steps and places the wolf helmet upon the table, purposefully turned so the glare of the two rubies has its effect, Hector places his hands behind his back and begins to pace slowly around the table as murmurs go around wondering what is happening. King Garius stands in an outrage and slams his fist into the table
"King Adamen! What is the meaning of this? Never in my life have I listened to anyone but the rest of the leaders and my own men...now I have to listen to the babble of yours!"
King Adamen smirks, clasping his hands behind his back and bouncing upon the balls of his toes, not intervening, Hector glances towards the raised King, his face expressionless.
"King Garius...I would like to remind you that it wasn't long ago that me and my men wiped out a third of yours...I would also like to remind you that it is only me and my men that none of you have been able to kill...I would advise you to sit down and listen...after all the blood that is staining my armour is fresh...in fact I have just come back from slaughtering a barbarian camp that set itself up on Queen Gaen's border...I believe there are some on your border too...I was on my way there but decided to report back to my king...I could always leave them for you to eliminate...or allow them to attack"
The leader grows silent at the sudden news, King Garius stutters and sits back down, and motioning for the soldiers within the room to send word back home about the camp, Hector grins and shakes his head.
"They have already been taken care of King Garius, my men have gone forward without me...now the matter at hand...I see you are having problems understanding and at first so did I when my King spoke to me about this...it is simple...we ally...this allows us to open trade routes which allows you to gain commerce...in turn we can erect bigger cities and features that allow our people to live without hassle...each kingdom has its own military which allows us to trade secrets, such as my men could teach some of your men our fighting styles thus allowing you to have your own elite troops.
Once this has succeeded, barbarians and any other invaders won't just fight against one kingdom...they will fight seven kingdoms...a lot more hassle off the people who can continue living...they will be safe, fed, watered, sheltered and so on and so forth...but...each leader is different which means different ways of doing things and completing things...different outcomes and this is what will shape the paradise within your city walls
Look at it this way...if King Adamen treated his people as equals to himself, he would be loved...though he could be taken for granted depending on the situation...if he treated some as rich and others as poor...rich people would love him and poor people would hate him but the poor people would thrive to become a rich person which will create a boost within the work category"
As he speaks he walks slowly but stops as he comes to be at the opposite end of the table, beside Queen Gaen who is now resting upon clasped hands, intrigued by the man standing in front of her, Hector places his hands upon the table and one by one looks at each leader.
"My King isn't looking to rule your kingdom, he isn't looking to disarm any of your duties either, he is simply looking for a way each of our kingdoms can live in peace with one another yet not live in one another's shadow either...so...do we have your support or will I be meeting with your legions at dawn and cutting them down once again?"
He smirks with malice and mischief at his comment while King Adamen claps for his Captain. Queen Gaen grins slyly and glances at both King Adamen and Hector.
