Yo.
I'm PokeSplicer, but call me Mike.
I've written a few stories, but no one ever read them.

re: Le Bleu Café : A Writers' Gathering Place

Writing a good long story takes time. Look at my ongoing story I've done, I started it some 3 years ago (I think) and I'm only about halfway through it, largely because I've only done maybe 3 chapters the last 18 months. Either I can't get around to finishing it, can't get it from brain to on paper, or I'm just too busy or lazy. Darn iPods and online poker.

aye same here though I have 7 projects, the first started back in 2000, technically it is a trilogy due to the way I have written it or how it should be "found" so to speak but it is the background to my online identity so yeah. My problem just seems to be too busy or can't get brain to paper >_<

Wow, almost as many projects as I have/had going, I think once I got to around 5 it just became too much for me.

That makes 2 of us. When I started listening to audiobooks a few months ago I started thinking that maybe I could do my story better in audiobook form, making them as free podcasts is how some of my favorite authors got started (I definitely recommend the works of Scott Sigler, Seth Harwood, and Mark Yoshimoto Nemcoff, they're great examples of the success they're experiencing by this method).

When I first started doing my stories years back, my inspirations/ideas for writing were to do fanfics based on animemanga series and videogames I really like (the first such one I did, which is the only story so far I've actually finished, I felt came off quite well), with this story I need to finish it's equal parts original story and inspired partly by some old videogames and sci-fi movies.

Mostly, although the first one I did was more of a comedy story.

re: Le Bleu Café : A Writers' Gathering Place

I sound stupid when recorded so that's out the window

Inspirations? Everyday life to be honest but yes and each project has its own.

Shadow legends volume I, II and III - Spawn, online RPG that I am on and is where the character was born and your basic run of the mill action, adventure and fantasy films/books

Paradise Province - A little stranger this one, it all came about from a conversation about religion and the random question of "What if satan was a good guy?" mind came up with a strange and twisted story related to the bible story of Adam & Eve and Joseph saving his people (I think that was the one with the 7 plagues). It also has a strong sense of diversity and reincarnation but upon saying all that, it doesn't insult any religion or attempts to convert to or from any religion. It is just simply borrowing them to place that question . Also when finished and read people would say "300" but that's only because I started writing the novel a month before the movie was even announced and I have never read Frank Miller's version either.

The Arena - A mixture of Gladiator and a weird dream I had

Lunar-cy - no inspiration really but it came to me from listening to Godsmack - Moon Baby. At the start a news reporter is saying "the moon makes people strange etc. something something...or is this just an act of lunacy" which was a pun, suddenly that made my mind think of lunatic and lunar, mix them together and you get a story about criminally insane people being turned into werewolves with the scientist promoting his discovery of being able to control them. Unfortunately all he has done is preserved the human mind and given it an ultimate killing machine.

Art of war - Real life, mostly politics and war. It follows a team of soldiers (still deciding whether to use first person or third person though at the moment it has someone else telling the story for a specific reason) they are coming back from a successful mission only to hear news that diplomacy has gone threw the window and new alliances have been formed. It more or less throws today's enemies together, neutrals revealing master plans and a new terroist group formed of several countries with no one knowing which countries they are...becoming a whole tangled mess of paranoia and genocide

An Emperor's Wish - Oblivion fan fic, my characters story within the game of Elder Scrolls, so there's that inspiration

finally, The Assassin - Ideas haven't been thought out fully yet but this one came along after reading Robbyn Hobb's "The Assassin's Apprentice", this one is pretty much a blank canvas and is at the bottom of priority but I will be getting a stealth type novel in somewhere

Though naturally anything can set off ideas and unfortunately they all come when I am in the middle of another project, hence 7 on the go. I have tried writing them down but failed miserably. Though I been getting the urge to continue Paradise Province but rewrite some of it.

This is because really there is a torture scene in it which now I think about it is a little too much. Mainly it involves an army having their way with a female prisoner for 4 days straight (obviously giving her food and water to keep her alive) then the King uses her until finally they use a medieval torture device on them which I can't remember the name of at the moment but it involves a pyramid shaped chair which the prisoner's vagina or anus is placed at the top and then slowly lowered down inch by inch on an hourly schedule until pretty much they talk or their pelvis shatters.

Anyhoo, the point being is there are two versions after the torture that I can do

1) Main character comes to rescue her but the villian holds her hostage at the top of the castle and throws her off...this would spark up a story of rage and revenge, making the MC pretty much "kill first, ask questions later" guy

2) Main character comes to rescue her and finds her in the dungeon, sees her battered and bruised and her legs crossed, gaining the picture of what happened. Frees her and brings in another character within the rest of the story to use...though I wouldn't have much of a part for her yet

Yeah, I finished it back in '04 or '05. I'll get a link later since it's in my.threads (it's in this forum somewhere but you'd have to dig a long ways back to find it).

Get someone else to record it then. I've seen that done with some audiobooks I've bought and some free podcast novels I subscribe to-an excellent example of how this can work out is an awesome sci-fi story called "The Secret World Chronicle". The authors, Mercedes Lackey and Steve Libbey, got voice actress Veronica Giguere to read the story and she does an outstanding job and makes the story that much better. (Veronica also read Libbey's stand-alone book, "The Bloodbaths")

Edit: nikkai-here's the link to the story I was talking about:

Too busy to make a text link out of it. The brain...
