It's pretty good, but at some points you have a lot of choppy short sentences in a row which doesn't do much for the flow of the story. Only at the beginning and a few other points though.

I thought that was bloody good...

Certainly a hell of a lot better than my stuff, anyway...

There may have been some slight disjointedness, but nothing really noticeable.

most novels use third person omnicient, but if you want to try something different go for it.

I actually wrote a tutorial about this on the first page. Why not look it over and decide which one you think would work best?

re: Le Bleu Café : A Writers' Gathering Place

I've been writing for five years and still haven't finished a book. But the one's I've started I really like. But everytime I try to pick it up and start again I remember my problem. The character's are in the place I want them to be but with no purpose. They have basically stopped growing and the story starts to grow stale. And I've tried over and over to make the story alive again but it's a DNR. I also have this strange hobby of writing character bios and mapping out the character's past, present, and the way I want the character to grow. Is that strange? I have an idea where I can save my stories by using an outline and planning it out. Is using outlines preferable? Please reply or pm me. Thanks.

re: Le Bleu Café : A Writers' Gathering Place

I have the same problem..

It basically comes down to whether or not you really think the story can progress any further.. Some times when people have a hard time finishing long works it's best to write a few short stories for idea's or maybe continue with short stories..
Writing a novel means you have to write something that you can write a lot about and you really have to want to put in all the work that writing a novel requires..

It's not strange to like to create character profiles. It actually is very good, because it makes the work of writing a story a lot easier, same with creating outlines. It takes away from the total work amount.

re: Le Bleu Café : A Writers' Gathering Place

well, to tell you the truth, I've only finished one story of my own. For that one I didn't map out anything, or create character profiles. Instead I used me and my friends in a sort of "alternate reality" allowing me to write out what they would do. I am currently trying the whole mapping out the story before I write it, but I find myself getting bored with the actual writing of the story if I know what it is going to happen.

re: Le Bleu Café : A Writers' Gathering Place

I write character profiles and outlines constantly, but not because it helps my writing. I do it because I like to have that level of organization, not because I'll ever necessarily refer to it again or because I need it for the actual writing.

re: Le Bleu Café : A Writers' Gathering Place

The extent of my character mapping is sketching them. I find that I become more in-touch with them, and I can picture them better. But I've never created character profiles out of role play; I like to keep it all in my head.
