re: Le Bleu Café : A Writers' Gathering Place

Wow. I've been on Neoseeker for nigh an eternity but I never knew this forum existed. I guess I should pull my head out of my ass, ha ha ha!!! Well, I like writing since its the only thing I'm good at, so I guess I'll write something here. Question is, what do you folks mostly rite about? Sci-fi? Drama? Would a self-help manual be allowed? How about a romance novel - would steamy porn scenes be okay? Actually, I'm not so sure I want to throw something out there just to have it mocked and ridiculed and spat upon by hordes of ravenous critics. We don't have any critics in this forum, do we? Anyway, I'm rambling now. Peace!

Can I get an opinion/review/critique thingy? That'd be great!
I like it! Make it longer! And don't "tell" as much, "show" more. I know that doesn't make sense but I'm no writing instructor.

Save that stuff for adult sites. A little sexuality is OK, but porn is a no-go. I actually put some sexual content in one of my stories, but was careful to make sure it didn't get too explicit because then it would be a problem-remember there are a lot of kids that might be reading this stuff.

I think it's funny when young teenagers mark their work "Mature." Wait a second, you aren't old enough to read your thread.

If you want more people to read your stories, try something like putting links in your sig-I've done that with all my stories and it's seemed to be a nice way to draw attention to it. Also consider suggesting it to your NeoFriends if you have any-I've got at least 9-10 people on my list who I send updates to whenever I add to my stories.

Do you guys have any advice on coming up with charecters and charecter names. I have an idea for a stroy but I don't want to make my charecters to much like people from my reality. And I keep turning charecters into my friends I would like to use different Elements from people that I know. But I take those charicteristics and they become those people. Any advise

re: Le Bleu Café : A Writers' Gathering Place

The best advice I can offer is what I did for one of my stories: Use your imagination! Maybe sit down and think of a name that sounds really cool, or take a couple that you heard somewhere and experiment with different combinations of first and last names. Also, be willing to make your characters a little unusual or offbeat. It's cool to give them powers like you normally couldn't have, esepecially if it helps conrtibute to their overall personality. Most of all, just be yourself! If you think of something you might like for a character, use it!

There's a web site (teenwriting.about.com) that is really good when it comes to helping with writing creatively.. My English teacher actually suggested it to me a while back, it helps with pretty much everything you can thing of when it comes to writing... I suggest checking it out

Help with names

Teen Writing

I also agree with Summonersupreme, imagination is also a great way to come up with names.. buying baby name books are good too

I need help with writer's block. I can't seem to get out of it for my story In MY Ring. It's my girlfriends story I'm writing for her and I wanna finish it for her.

re: Le Café Bleu : A Writer's Gathering Place

I've got two problems that have happened in almost all my stories. First off when it comes to original characters, I can't make up good names. I think really hard and usually end up with only my friends names popping into my head.

I've also been having big problems with writers block. I write the first two or three chapters and then spend days, weeks and sometimes even months trying to get out of my predicament. I've been writing a story on fanfiction.net called 'Life of a Saiyan'. The last update? sometime mid-2004, and I only finished chapter 7 a week or two ago!

re: Le Café Bleu : A Writer's Gathering Place

If you look through some earlier posts in the thread, I might have already answered a question similar to your first one. Hint: Imagination & creativity!
As for the second, I have gone through much the same. Sometimes it's best in that scenario to just take a step back and stop writing for a litle bit. Clear your mind then see if anthing comes to mind. Don't try to rush, work at your own pace. If this means not working on it for a while, that's OK. Whatever works best for you.

As for coming up with names. I usually write down whatever comes to me, no matter when it is and then look through the list of names I have and select the one that best suits the nature of the character I am trying to portray. It isn't too difficult.

re: Le Café Bleu : A Writer's Gathering Place

One thing I do for names is I think of an attribute that fits the character well; for an evil character, I might say that darkness or evil is his attribute. Then go to an online translator, and try that word in several different languages; some of the words make excellent names.
I did that for an RP I'm in right now for a pyromaniac; his name is Kaji Kaen, both Japanese words for fire.

P.S. I'm new to this forum.

re: Le Café Bleu : A Writer's Gathering Place

I Just want to mention I'm going to add a new feature to this thread.

Along with writing help, I would like people to come with suggestions to keep this a fun place to post, with suggesting anything you can think of that can be a joint activity, like a contest, or something like the "DWG", anything you may have on your mind ^^

I was thinking to have a different thread for this, but I don't want to many stickies to keep more personal threads up on the first page, so I will add this feature here

I'm open for any suggestions. Either here or through PM
