Nintendo LAN Adapter for Nintendo Wii

quote
Best Buy:
Don't have a wireless Internet connection but want to enjoy the online functionality of your Nintendo Wii? No problem — just connect the LAN Adapter to your existing wired connection, plug it into the back of your Wii and you're set to play. The USB 2.0 connection is even faster than Wi-Fi for gaming with all the frills at high speeds.Connect the adapter right to your existing PC connection or DSL modem quickly and easily. The included 6' patch cable means you won't need any extra accessories. Using your existing LAN wired connection and the LAN Adapter, you'll be able to get the most out of the Wii's Internet functions.

It says it comes with a 6' patch cable.. that is the cable that runs from the port on the LAN adaptor to the wireless router.. correct?

Is it possible to get a wireless patch cable? My wii is downstairs.. and my comp. is up, neither can really move and it still be fair to everyone (upstairs it'd have to be in a personall room.. and me and my bro split the wii 50/50.)

Also, will this work THROUGH firewalls? There are many firewalls and blockers on our comp.. will this go through them?

There is no such thing as a wireless patch cable.. The wii has built in wifi, and if you have a wireless router then thats all you need. The Lan adapter is to connect the wii to the internet using an ethernet cable if you dont have built in wireless.

Also, the wii dosnt get its internet through a PC if you go through a router, so you dont need to worry about the firewall.

re: Nintendo LAN Adapter for Nintendo Wii

I have built in wireless.. but everything lags.. nothing loads quick, and it takes forever to get on

probably because of all the firewalls.

So you can't get something that will plug into the port on the Lan cable, and something else that will plug into the router, connecting the two without a wire?

re: Nintendo LAN Adapter for Nintendo Wii

The LAN Adapter is meant for those without wireless capabilities to still connect their Wii to the internet. The adapter connects to the Wii via USB, and the other part connects to a wall jack or a router to receive the internet connection. The cable included is just an ethernet cable to use to connect the LAN Adapter to a router or the jack.

If your wireless connection is running slowly, it may be onboard firewalls on the router, and could require you to forward ports. Another cause for a slow connection is if you are if the internet connection is being greatly taxed (i.e. from downloading/torrenting).

You don't get it... what I need is a wireless ethernet port..

My wii is downstairs and my comp is up

I don't care if I can connect wirelessly.. it's slow and laggy. I'd rather have a wired connection (wireless wired.. if that makes sense)

Is there such a thing as a wireless ethernet cable??

just stop for a second and read that - how can you get a wireless CABLE. (or a wireless wire )

the only 2 options you have is the slow WiFi - or buy a WIRED usb adapter

plus the person above that said about th router having onboard firewalls had a good idea to TRY and help you with your slow WIRELESS connection.
