I has a question. Does it matter what SD card I have so long as the wii works with it? I have a scandisk for wii 1.0 GB.

As far as I know, as long as it is formatted to FAT 16 it is all gravy.

re: Homebrew Guide and Discussion

Okay, I did the part where I make a folder in private, wii, title, then made a folder called RZDE. Then I put in an rzde0.bin file in the folder right? I get confused after that.

Also, what is a root directory?

re: Homebrew Guide and Discussion

Just a few questions. Firstly, how do you actually play homebrew games? Is it like, just get the file and burn it to a DVD or what?

Secondly, do you need to do the whole process of booting your TP Hack every time you want to use homebrew, or do those "Homebrew Launchers" you listed bypass that step?

Finally, what exactly is the scope for piracy with homebrew? Not as if I want to do it (<3), I'm just curious whether it really makes it as simple as burn -> play.

Also, on the twilight hack, I talk to the guy, then this black screen of death pops up. Then I have to plug the wii's power cable out to turn the wii off. What did I do wrong?

Sorry fellas, I'm only one person. and I do work full time now.

Its pretty much step by step from the first post, there really isn't really much else to explain.

A root directory would be the default directory of the SD card. For example J:\\.

The homebrew launchers are what make it possible to launch the homebrew applications. As of current, TP is the only way to launch the applications. You inject the code into a TP save file, so Yes, you do need it. There is currently a HomeBrew Channel in the works, but it isn't fully functional just yet.

Also- there is no actual "burning" in the usual sense. Everything is taken care of via the SD card.

As far as the scope of piracy; considering the SD cards that are capable of being read by the Wii are FAT 16 formatted and usually 2GB or under - I can't really speak to the chances of getting Wii games on there. However I am sure that there is already, and will be in the future more, emulators ported to the Wii (Think piracy of virtual console).

Once you talk to the man it should boot to your homebrew application. Check your paths and all the steps again.

re: Homebrew Guide and Discussion

Does anyone know of a video that can guide one from step one to the beginning?

    Not to my knowledge.

Why, is the guide not simple enough?

If so, what can I do to improve it?

re: Homebrew Guide and Discussion

I put that RZDE file in, renamed to data.bin.

Now, if I wanted to play tetris on it, how would I set it up?

    Perhaps.

Take the Tetris ELF file and rename it to "boot.elf" and place it into the root directory (just the letter drive path of the SD card (ex- F:\\ or J:\\)

Put it in the Wii and boot the Wii up, copy the data.bin file to the console and boot up TP. When you load the data.bin file that you just moved, it should launch the homebrew application after you turn and speak to the man behind you (if not immediately).

I hope that helps a bit.

Okay, I put the RZDE file, renamed it to data.bin and put it in the correct folder. I download tetris elf, put it in the root directory. I rename it to boot.elf. I put the SD card in the wii. I delete the TP save file. I go to the SD card, it shows that there is data in it. But I see no icon that says chainloader or whatever.
