Monster Hunter 3 Famitsu Scans 09/19/08

[Wii at Everyday]

All Famitsu scans WILL be compiled when they all come out; don't worry. These are just wicked important.

- Underwater hunting
- PLAYABLE AT TGS

re: Monster Hunter 3 Famitsu Scans 09/19/08

Looking good. Scans are a bit blurry, but the game looks great. It's nice to hear it re-confirmed that they game will be playable at TGS, I can't wait to hear the impressions. The underwater hunting sounds interesting, but I hope they are able to pull off the "feel" right. Very few developers do, but Capcom is one of the best, so I'm hoping they're able to.

Has anyone translated the scans yet? In particular, the part about how they're using Pay to Play?

Pay to Play as in the new online service? Anyways I'm glad they've finally mentioned something about the game. I thought it was a dead project.

The pay-to-play part right now is under question. Someone apparently read through it and said there's no mention of it. I'll remove it from the post, though, since it isn't confirmed.

I've heard it's got a 4 player online co-op mode.

re: Monster Hunter 3 Famitsu Scans 09/19/08

Yes, it does, as well as a lobby in the form of a town.

quote
- takes place on a new, unexplored island
- forests, caves, underwater environments
- full control over your character when swimming
- go fishing and use your catches as ingredients
- there is an air gauge while swimming
- use torches to light up dark areas
- new monsters
- old monsters will be revamped as well
- underwater monster is the main monster of the game. This monster can survive outside of water as well
- 4 player online
- city acts as a lobby for meeting with other players
- the city in single player has more buildings to visit, and different paths to take
- appearing at TGS

Original Article (IGN) (more in-depth)

No mention of Pay to Play, so it probably isn't in Famitsu either.

I'm glad we finally got some info, it's been about a year since it was announced.

If there's a lobby in the form of a town, there would probably need to be some form of communication, so it might use WiiSpeak or text messages. Also, it seems that a lobby where you could meet other players (random people) and team up to play wouldn't require...friend codes?!

re: Monster Hunter 3 Famitsu Scans 09/19/08

From IGN's article (lots of details there, I'd recommend reading it).

quote
The game retains the concept of a "city," which acts as a lobby for chatting and meeting with other players. When playing solo, this city becomes a village that slowly expands with new facilities and access routes for the island.
Yes, there will be communication and (what I'm assuming is) teaming up with random players. It will probably just be text via USB keyboard, but I think WiiSpeak would be a nice addition. I wouldn't get my hopes up for it, though, at least not with random people. It would be nice if Capcom did implement WiiSpeak, voice chat is much easier than text, and I'll probably end up getting it since I'm a total Animal Crossing whore ...

It seems to me like it would be pointless to create this expansive lobby system for meeting people to play 4-player co-op if it was limited to only friends. If you couldn't do anything in the lobby other than shop or something (since it is a city), I doubt a few friends would actually be able to meet up at the same time since you probably wouldn't hang out there unless you were specifically waiting for someone.

Also, they did use the word "meet," which implies you don't already know the people, and the phrase "other players" instead of "friends."

Honestly, that sounds expensive.

Like, pay-to-play expensive.

But then again, Capcom has cash moneys from Monster Hunter Portable =O

Alternate hosts, should work fine. The ones in the first post don't work for me either, but the ones at the source do.

Oh, I meant that if WiiSpeak is used, it will probably be limited to friends. As for the lobby itself, like you said, a lobby for meeting other players is pointless if its limited to only people on your friends list. Chances are it will allow some sort of communication with strangers. We're not really sure where Nintendo draws the line for third parties, though, so we don't know what to expect. Hopefully Capcom will shed some light on this at TGS.

I imagine Nintendo would be more lenient with this game, since they seem to be making a pretty big deal about its Wii exclusivity. Nintendo has a tendency to pick favorite companies to work with, and this game seems like it will benefit from it.
