The Kojima Productions Report

The Kojima Productions Report - The Official Thread

This is the Official Kojima Productions Report thread of Neoseeker! Here we can discuss anything that host, Ryan Payton and co-host, Kenichiro Imaizumi discuss or reveal on the show, of course all discussions must be related to Metal Gear. Please abbreviate The Kojima Productions Report to KPR in all your messages for convenience.

First, a quick FAQ!
    What is KPR?
  • In simple terms KPR is an online radio show, KPR is the English version of Hideo Kojima's audioblog. In his next effort to reach out to his audience, Hideo Kojima has momentarily traded in his writing pen for a microphone, choosing now to connect to fans through their ears. The Kojima Productions Report is an English companion to Hideo Kojima's audioblog HIDECHAN, with new sessions scheduled to be uploaded through iTunes's Podcast system every Friday.

Ok, so what does KPR have to offer?
  • In KPR sessions, Ryan Payton will be inviting guests to come on the air, including Hideo Kojima and his staff, as well as offer a behind-the-scenes look at the inner-workings of Kojima Productions. Official Metal Gear Solid announcements and news are to be revealed on KPR.

Who are Ryan Payton and Kenichiro Imaizumi?
  • Ryan Payton is the host of the radio show, he is the International Manager for Kojima Productions and director of the Metal Gear Saga Vol. 1 DVD. Due to popular demand, Kenichiro Imaizumi was made co-host of the show, he is the producer of the upcoming game Metal Gear Solid 4.

How to listen to KPR
Visit the KPR website to download the KPR sessions and to find what each session includes. Alternativly, you can download each session by clicking the links below:I will update this list every Friday, let the discussion begin!

re: The Kojima Productions Report

In Session 007, Ryan Payton said they will reveal some exciting news in the next session, I hope its MGS related. Any thoughts on what it could be? Also, in Session 002 - Kojima said Uwe Boll will not be directing an MGS movie.

re: The Kojima Productions Report

Could be some updates on MGS4, though I doubt it. If its not about MGS, then what would it be about?

I was referring to MGS as in the series . I hope its not about Metal Gear Acid or the Digital Comic or something.

Yeah. I don't really care about Ac!d. But as a whole, I have no idea what the "exciting news" will be.

The best it could be is probably something relating to Metal Gear Solid 4.

I don't have time to download it right now (about to do some monkey hunting). But if someone who has heard it could could explain what he says, that'd be great.

re: The Kojima Productions Report

As Echo said, the special surprise of Session 008 was Hideo Kojima himself. I've summed up the main points of Session 008 in the 3 bullet points below. I have also typed up the Hideo Kojima interview with Ryan Payton which was in this session, this is a must read for all hardcore MGS fans as it has some interesting facts and answers to it.

Session 008
  • Subsistence has received high review ratings, here are some of the results: OPM - 5/5, PSM - 10/10, EGM - 9.5/10 and IGN - 9.8/10.
  • The graphics engine has been revamped to complement the new 360 degree camera.
  • Ryan discusses the new features of Subsistence along with Ken, this session is mostly dedicated to Subsistence.

quote Hideo Kojima Interview - Session 008 of KPR - typed by Solid Strike
Ryan Payton - After Snake Eater you made a comment that you wouldn't make a Subsistence like version, like a directors cut version, but we're here with Subsistence now - When did you change your mind and why?

Hideo Kojima - I'd visited Europe right before MGS3 was being released in March 2005, at that time many European people asked me whether I could make a complete version of MGS3, so after I came back to Japan, I talked with the team members and here we have the game.

Ryan Payton - Subsistence features the original two Metal Gear games from the MSX era, and what prompted you to bring those on Subsistence finally, I mean you've had a long time and probably many chances to put them on a game like Substance or maybe through a GBA version or Final Fantasy Chronicles like PS1 game - I mean why Subsistence? Why'd you wait so long?

Hideo Kojima - To be honest, I was not interested in creating the two games, however there is a certain time gap between MGS3 and MGS1, I worked to fill in the time gap somehow and MG1 and MG2 were a nice complement.

Ryan Payton - For Subsistence, you chose a new 3D camera that wasn't included in Snake Eater, and you have commented in the past that you often get 3D motion sickness - Do you feel sick when you play Subsistence Mr. Kojima?

Hideo Kojima - When I play the original story mode, I don't get 3D motion sickness, however when I play MGO I get 3D sickness motion sickness for some reason. I do not get 3D motion sickness when I play the original story mode, I think this is because I can feel where the enemies are positioned, however when it comes to MGO I have to constantly look around by moving the camera.

Ryan Payton - For MGS4, how are you going to fix the camera? I mean is it going to be a Snake Eater style camera or Subsistence style 3D camera or MGO style 3D camera?

Hideo Kojima - It will be a combination of the two systems and it will be a more advanced one, its being designed so that I don't get 3d sickness. I get 3D motion sickness when I play an FPS's, I will have to play Half-Life 2 but I get 3D motion sickness.

A few questions from the fans.

Fan - What is Big Boss's real name? Is it Jack, or is it John?

Hideo Kojima - Its both. As you know Raiden was also called Jack. Either name is fine, there not any distinct difference between Jack and John, its like saying "hey man hows it going", though we do not have such a greeting in Japanese.

Fan - How did you come up with the name of Shagohod?

Hideo Kojima - Well I was looking for some good name and I was looking through a Russian dictionary back then, and we're to come up with a name that has a meaning of two legs on the ground, and people suggested the name Shagohod so I picked it.

Fan - I had missed out on the older Metal Gear games, particularly Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, have you ever though about remaking them on a 3D platform?

Hideo Kojima - I get many requests, however that would require quite alot of man power and time, and if I start working on it I can no longer work on MGS4 and other new stuff. So sorry but I must say No for now.

Finally a quick message from Kojima

"I am happy that the review scores are very high, thank you. With a newly equipped online mode I hope many people will enjoy playing the game. Some time has past since the Japan version was released, but I hope the wait was worth it for you and I hope you can enjoy playing the game for a long time, please take care of my baby. Thank you very much."

Ha, typical Kojima not telling us Big Boss's name...

Now, even though he said that re-making MG and MG2: Solid Snake is a definate no for now, it is possible in the future, right?

He doesn't seem to be interested in the development of these games at all at the moment, it may be a while before he considers the idea.

re: The Kojima Productions Report

I'm not too bummed about it. I kinda figured he'd feel that way. Most game designers/director's don't like to retunr to already made games and re-do them. I'm perfectly happy with the ones that Subsistence has.
