re: (Article) Itagaki talks about Ninja Gaiden II ... and how it's better than Devil May Cry 4. |

No Finalblade, DMC4 did not have more weapons than the previous three. Failure all around, really.
I'd say that this almost is comparing apples to oranges, except that the games are within the same genre and the only actual difference (aside from story) is the battle systems. In all actuality, the Devil May Cry games have much smoother battle systems that allow for extensive combos to be performed more readily than in Ninja Gaiden. Ninja Gaiden wins out storyline-wise (mainly because the DMC games are pretty much a joke when it comes to story) but I definitely wouldn't say that the levels are more original or less repetitive in any sense, as games from both series' tend to have a lot of backtracking and such. -------------------

quote TenkenDon't put words in my mouth. If you really think a tune up and online modes are the biggest change ever to happen to a fighting game series you're deluded. Removing all but 2 of the exising characters, and building the game from scratch using an entirely fresh game engine and graphical style? That's a change. quoteWhich is almost exactly what I said, so how is that "Half-right"? NGII isn't even out yet so don't bring that into it. Where did I put words in your mouth? Didn't, I was making that comparison on my own.
Lick of paint? I highly bet you haven't even played Dead or Alive 4, meaning you wouldn't know if it's changed. It's changed enough that most DOA fans don't like it as much as previous titles. Ground game alone completely changes a great deal. Removing all but two characters and starting from scratch? I don't even know what game you're talking about, but those characters must have sucked Fanboy wetdream? Watch some *bleep*ing videos before spouting your nonsense, if you can't tell what's changed then go back to playing your NES. -------------------

Yes, those characters that were removed from the series I mentioned must have sucked, being the iconic characters in Streetfighter 2, you know, the game that all modern fighting games are based around in some way.
Put it like this. I like Soul Calibur. You could even say I'm a fan of Soul Calibur. But I know Damn well that Soul Calibur has not changed apart from a 'lick of paint' since the move from PS1 to Dreamcast. Certain new things may have been bolted on, the graphics may be nicer, and there's a few new characters here and there. But the game engine and gameplay is basically exactly the same as it was on Dreamcast. And the exact same criticism applies to DOA. Yes I have played every DOA game and enjoyed them all, although probably not with the same feverish obsession as you. Are there new things bolted on here and there? Yep. Are the graphics nicer? Yep. Is it basically the same game as I was playing back in 2002? Yep. Now you haven't played NGII, and 'watching some *bleep*ing videos' isn't going to tell you or me anything concrete about what the finished game is actually like to play through compared to the previous games, so why would I use NGII in an argument? I didn't, you brought NGII into this in a desperate attempt to make up for the fact that I was correct about The Ninja Gaiden series so far. Great game though it may be, the various incarnations which have been released so far have all been tweaked versions of the game that arrived on the XBox in 2004. I do love the irony of you telling me to go and play my NES, when you just mentioned Tecmo Bowl, which according to the internet, came out in 1987. ------------------- Don't try that shit at home #26:

Don't you love irony though?
It's like I said. Whether or not you've played a game doesn't change the fact about being able to tell what's changed and what hasn't. Was I kidding? Was I being a dumbass? No. It's as plain as day what's been changed in Ninja Gaiden 2. The leap from Ninja Gaiden/Black/Sigma is as big as the change from DMC1 to DMC3(not counting 2..). That's a pretty damn big leap. Saying that my point is invalid just because I haven't played the game isn't the best thing, when the videos make most of my points obvious. I'm not saying that Ninja Gaiden II is the best game ever and I'm not saying that it's better than the original. However, to say it hasn't changed a great deal from the original to this one is just a flatout lie. Mind you, I don't play DOA that much, the AI is just far too wack. EDIT: Meant to add this earlier and neglected it, DOA4 is the most broken piece of shit fighter I've ever played. This message was edited by Tenken on May 28 2008. -------------------

Why do we climb the tower? There is no why. We climb it because it is there.
In other news, this is wandering from the original point of the debate, I suggest a breather and can of Coke for all participants before resuming discussion. Then again, I'm not sure exactly what there is to discuss... -------------------

Yeah, I'll agree to disagree on this one, Tenken does make some fair points, I thought I did as well. I'll go and play Punch Out for a bit.

Ninja Gaiden 2 looks better than DMC 4 in my eyes. A lot of games were better than DMC 4 in fact. I mean like I said in a previous post, DMC 4 wasn't the best title in the series. In fact it was down right disapointing. Not counting the fact that you only played as Dante for 7 missions just plain sucks, but we were promised more weapons, more combos, more of what Kobayashi and Itsuno promised but never delivered.
At least in Weaponry, it looks like we are getting a pretty good amount of weapons in the next Ninja Gaiden. As far as pulling Combos is concerned, it definitely has a learning curve in the Ninja Gaiden games, but once you get use to it, it's actually pretty cool to see and in a lot of ways surpasses Devil May Cry. Hell even Ninja Gaiden Sigma surpassed DMC 4 in terms of combos and weaponry. At least in my eyes. -------------------

quoteI wish I could slap you with a wet trout for such verbal dribble. Capcom games have been more sucessful than anything Itagaki has created, DMC has sold millions. My god Final Blade, you utter idiot. Ninja Gaiden is 3 games. Sigma wasn't that good; so your point about Itakagi making lots of great games one after another is absolute rubbish.
Now let's think about Capcom. Resident Evil series- all bloody awesome (except Dead Aim, Survivor, and Umbrella Chronicles. w/ev though.) Mega Man- absolutely awesome. Devil May Cry- Great series. duh. Clock Tower- Damn creepy, even for old games. Phoenix Wright- Pretty good. Okami- Hands down, my second favourite PS2 game. An awesome, beautiful game. I COULD GO ON FOR AGES, you BLOODY IDIOT. >_> ------------------- SO, SPACE, EH? SO, SPACE, EH? SO, SPACE, EH? SO, SPACE, EH? SO, SPACE, EH? SO, SPACE, EH? SO, SPACE, EH? SO, SPACE, EH? Capcom-Entire Company, Team Ninja-one team within a company, great going guyz!
CapcomDevil, the only reason Ninja Gaiden failed to sell well is because it was on a much less popular console and most found it, at least the original, to be far too difficult and gave up at the first boss. And SubZero, JPN marketplace. -------------------

DMC4 probably would have boosted PS3 sales, NG wouldn't have. If NG is so brilliant, I don't see a que for it, or many people buying. Millions bought the PS3, its no excuse for it being poor.
