right, amongst that I add that im pretty sure Dante IS the alternative playable character of the game. If you look at the magazine scans that Crazy Daizy posted a few ago, on scan 2, which is entirely about Dante, you'll notice the top left pic has Dante hackin n slashes, like he does, and that 'gauge' thing is at the top left o' the screen... thought y'all might wanna know....

Replacing Dante to a back seat of the spot light is a really bad idea. I mean he is the ONLY *bleep*ing thing keeping gamers coming back. You change that, and it will wonder off its roots.

Not exactly. I keep coming back for the action, the cool moves, and the sheer difficulty of the game. Sure Dante is really cool, but having someone else do things almost exactly like him (not to mention look like him) isn't really a bad thing. And like it was said, it isn't dead certain Dante will not be playable. It may take a role-shifting job like in Onimusha 3.

re: Devil May Cry 4 Information Thread

Now that I am more awake...

The Devil May Cry 4 official site did a big juicy update today! First, we have the first screenshots of the game from Capcom (i.e. not scanned and without game site logos), and the boys look rather awesome. Dante gets two illustrations and two screens, while Nero gets one illustration in addition to the one he had before, plus three screens.

The What's Devil May Cry section presents briefly, with a bunch of CG illustrations I wish were bigger and downloadadble, the universe of Devil May Cry and the three preceding games.

Finally, the Diary, in what I presume is the last entry, presents the computer the game will be presented on at the Tokyo Game Show, and gives the hours of the DMC4 demonstration on each day of the convention.

re: Devil May Cry 4 Information Thread

* New Details from GameInformer magazine *

Something special about the grip of the Red Queen, nero's blade, that Kobayashi won't reveal yet. It has some sort of brake lever which does something...

Variel, the fiery demon boss you've seen is about the size of a small building, and just being near other structures, will cause them to catch on fire, so getting anywhere near close to him is a no-no

Nero, won't have a devil trigger, with the key word being 'Devil'. Some other kind of trigger?

Nero lives on the remote island of fortuna which is the setting for most of the game. He belongs to an order that worships Sparda and fight demons in his name. Nero does "Special jobs" for the order cleaning up "messy situtations".

That ends when a white-haired man in a long red coat breaks into the order's temple and starts slaying the high clergy. "Just because Nero's in the game, doesn't mean Dante isn't. Dante does appear.", Kobayashi admits.

In the ensuing cutscene, we witness a heated battle between the two demon hunters that includes all of the stylish sword swinging and acrobatic action one could hope for.

Dante, at first is the primary antagonist that Nero chases across Fortuna. Dante being playable is neither confirmed nor denied. "

Nero is not the 3rd son of Sparda, thank god that is out of the window.

Nero does not have Devil Trigger, but he has something else...

Epic confrontation between Dante and Nero confirmed...

*DMC4 to start off easier than the standard DMC games, then later on will become even harder than DMC3!

*There is more than a year left in development for DMC4.

*DMC4 will feature self-shadowing.

*There is suggested online co-op play in DMC4.

-Dev quote: "with more than a year left in development"
-Tenative Release Date: Winter 2007

-Dante's apperance will be older, cooler, and will also have a beard.

-Kobayashi feels that at first, he wanted to make DMC4 easier, but then realized this would go against the wishes of many fans. So instead, he wants to make the game 'easier to control' and 'get into' instead of making the game easier strategically.

-Itsuno (the game's director) concering the difficulty says, DMC4 will be a hard game, "there is no turning back now" is how the translated quote goes.

-The overall 'game' will drastically increase in DMC4, says the director Itsuno. Saying that it will have more weapons/moves/bosses/enemies/speed/sound/design/scene atmosphere than DMC1, DMC2, and DMC3 combined.

-Kobayashi says that he can't comment on PS3's maximum graphical potential, but says that the lowest minimum bar on how DMC4 looks in real-time is that of the TGS trailer.

-Kobayashi does not know when DMC4 will be done (no release date or a rough quarter/period) is known.

-And lastly the producer says the next time you will see DMC4 is when it's running entirely in real-time with final designs.

-And Kobayashi also says Dante will (physically, as in build, age etc.) will more look like the DMC2 Dante than the DMC3 Dante. Since this is (finally) a true [s]equal to DMC1.

"When asked whether or not this device is just for decoration, Kobayashi evasively responds: "There is something to do with the grip on his sowrd which we can't reveal yet.""

"Since Nero isn't one of Sparda's progeny, he probably won't be able to undergo a full transformation, but that doesn't mean the mechanic will vanish entirely from DMC4."

""We're not ready to say what role Vergil himself plays in the story," Kobayashi tells us. "But the existence of Vergil as a character is something very important to the story of the games. That's something that I don't think is going to end.""

"It should also be noted that despite rampant Internet rumors, the events of DMC 2 are not being entirely removed from the series' canon: "They occur very far after the events of 4," clarifies Kobayashi."

- The Hand that nero has can only throw enemies in the air at the begining of the game, however, customisation to the hand will give you the ability to bring enemies closer, push enemies away, and continously throw enemies into the ground. The range of Neros hand will not reach enemies that are a mile away , but the range is still impressive says GF.

- Vergil will be a major part of the story
-Enemies in the demo can be killed with basic shots and slashes, however, Kobayashi stated that enemies wont go down that easily later in the game.

-Variel is the first boss in the game. Theirs a trick to killing him, since you cant get too close to the enemy, Koyabashi states this. Variel can light up everything around him. Hes size of a small building. Im not sure, but theirs another fire boss(probably Variel again), but with a big hefty weapon(much like when you fight jecht at the end of FFX)

-Neros life involves doing speicial jobs for the Order cleaning up particulary messy situtations

-Lives on a remote island called Fortuna, in wich people worship sparda and fight demons in his name.

-A heated battle between Nero and Dante at the begining. Stylish battle scene, Nero has the upper hand and dropkicks Dante. Dante escapes with Nero pursuiting (dante you wuss ). Theirs a woman in the background that is considered to be "you have seen her before in Devil May Cry". Trish or Lady most likely.

-Dantes part of the story is still a mystery

-DMC4 will start of bit easier then DMC3, but get more difficult during the game(harder then DMC3)

-Gorgous water and particle effects + Self Shadowing + Set at High Definition(resolution not mentioned)

-Network play is being considered, co op 2 player.

Games can rest assured that Capcom and its development team are taking the necessary time to insure that all of the new elements exceed expectations, despite pressure from what many perceive as a shortage of must-buy titles for the early life of the PS3. "The Japanese branch of Sony has asked us to release it as close to launch as possible", divulges Kobayashi. "While I understand that users would like it as quick as possible, and Sony would like it as quick as possible, its says "Devil May Cry 4." Because it says that, we can't just make something and put it out. It has to live up to the Devil May Cry name.

Sorry for any repetition, all of this info is taken from the Devil May Cry IGN Boards.

IGN Hands-On

quote
Being a member of the press is good, because you can get away with nearly everything just by flashing the "press" sticker around. At the Tokyo Game Show today, we were the first members of the North American press at Capcom's booth, and we got to go through Capcom's Devil May Cry 4 twice before Capcom representatives asked us to leave.

From earlier news, we know that Dante is no longer the main character in the game. Rather, Nero is his replacement. Sporting a dual-barrel pistol and his sword called the Red Queen, Nero is similar in playing style to Dante but with a few key differences. The main change is the inclusion of the Devil Arm/Buster move, which is executed by pressing O. By pressing O by itself, you can execute a simple punch/throw move which will slam enemies into the ground. However, the fun really starts when you start using the Devil Arm move, which is done by pressing O in conjunction with the analog stick. Nero will then extend his arm out, and a ghoulish arm will extend even further, grab an enemy (or enemies) and reel them in for an extended combo. This works not only on the ground, but in the air as well. You can easily jump up and then extend the Devil Arm and start an air combo, then finish off with the Buster, which will slam them back into the ground. Not only is this an effective way to continue combos, but it also helps you clear out enemies faster; you can actually grab multiple enemies at the same time if they're bunched together.

The acceleration system that was mentioned previously doesn't seem to be implemented just yet, because during a melee we were able to simply mash on the slash button without any penalty. Nero's melee attacks are slightly different than what Dante has. There's the standard four hit combo and the uppercut-style slash that allows you to start air combos. Nero's Stinger attack is different from Dante in that it's a horizontal slash rather than a straight thrust, which allows you to cut through multiple enemies at the same time. Nero's firing rate is a little slower than Dante, but that's to be expected because he's only carrying one gun. Because the new system wasn't added to the demo, the game feels a lot like previous iterations rather than a wholly new experience. It's disappointing because I personally hoped that playing Nero would be really different from Dante, but at this point it isn't.

As far as visuals go, DMC4 was looking absolutely incredible and probably better than any other demo on the show floor today. The amount of detail that every character has is unbelievable. Even the Marionettes had textures that had to be seen to be believed. You can actually see the stitching on each part of their bodies, and they look much more manufactured than before. That's not a bad thing either; instead of looking like an enemy that was designed as a whole, they actually look like someone grabbed random pieces and threw them together to make a diabolical creation. The lighting effects were also really nice, especially in the latter part of the demo. The first part of the demo took place in the courtyard and castle, where you could see the sun streaking through the windows of the castle. But the second part of the demo took place in an abandoned harbor, with the sun slowly setting. Here you could see the sunlight reflecting off the ocean, creating an incredible visual effect.

While the demo took about 10 to 20 minutes to finish depending on how good you were (it took us a good 12 minutes to get through it) it ended with the biggest cocktease ever. Previous DMC demos allowed you to play through a level and fight an endboss. This was the case with DMC1 where you could fight the Phantom (the giant spider) and in DMC3 where you fought Cerberus. We've seen footage of the giant Barlog-ish boss from the trailer, and we were pumped up and ready to take him on. At the end of the demo, we stumbled upon a giant barrier that started to sear from the extreme heat. We saw the Barlog burst through the barrier. We were ready to fight it!

We got a "Coming Soon..." message.

Bollocks, Capcom. Just Bollocks. We'll have more info on the game in the coming days. Stay tuned!
