That's right. But how do we know that Samus fires the arm cannon using a trigger? You can't see it. For all we know she could be pressing the A button on the inside.
Unless of course one of you decides to be very geeky and inform me on the inner workings of her arm cannon which you read in some Lore right at the end of SM2 or something. -------------------

I don't think Nintendo really thought about how she fires her cannon. I'm more interested in the science behind the morph ball technology myself. How are her cells rearranged to adjust to the small confines of the ball?

Back to the grapple beam thing...
Okay, I can't back this up with anything, but I had always thought that you flick the nunchuck forward, pull back on the analog stick to make the beam taut, and then flick it back to rip the shield/door/whatever off... If I find a source, I'll edit this.

Yeah, from the log entries in MP1. Horribly crushed when they tried to replicate it.
I don't feel sorry for them though. -------------------

Insanity, the morph ball has always been a very strange and unique aspects of the Metroid series. Samus somehow transforms into a sphere of energy, and I reckon she gained this ability from her relationship with the Chozo. ------------------- ![]()

chozo training might help her achieve the morph ball mode but i dont think it is solely chozo related. I think its more technologically involved. While the space pirates havent perfected it yet they are reverse engineering the morphball function which suggests it is a technological ability

Would anybody be interested in a separate technology discussion thread, much like this one in the MP2 forum?
And I do think that the morphball is a technology developed by the chozo, using their advanced knowledge of matter to energy conversion. -------------------

re: General Discussion 2: Echoes |
quote MoRbIdEIt's Chozo technology. Btw, the Pirates tried to reverse engineer many of Samus' systems. While they enjoyed some success (such as the beam weapons), they were unable to successfully replicate the Morph Ball. All test subjects were either killed or horribly crushed. Of course it's technology, but it's a technology the pirates cannot grasp. It's not a unique technology though. We do see other hunters using what is at least similar technologies in Metroid Prime: Hunters. bbb7002004 - Sure. I expect to put my foot in it repeatedly, but heck it would be interesting. -------------------

the pirates arent that far off from getting the morphball technology right and they havent given up either. i suspect they will have it eventually. as seen in the prime series the pirates are obviously learning from their encounters with the huntress and recognize her superior firepower.

Really? What kinda of abilities did the pirates possess in Super Metroid? While close, there is no evidence of widespread success. Wait, wasn't one of the hunters a Space Pirate? Ack, can't remember. Anyway, that wasn't the same as Morph Ball so it wasn't a replication of it as such. Hmm, I think that was Weavel with that Half-Turret thing, or was that one of the others?

weavel was the space pirate in hunters. The pirates in super metroid didnt exhibit any morphball abilities but neither did they show their newly developed weapons based on samus' beams. Perhaps the technology is still new and not perfected so only a select elite group of pirates have it and werent on zebes when she goes there in super metroid. or perhaps she is able to destroy their research in mp3. point is it isnt beyond their capabilities to obtain the morph ball technology. if it was some sort of special ability gained through chozo blood or samus' link with the chozo the pirates wouldnt have been able to even emulate the morph ball to the extend that they did.

re: General Discussion 2: Echoes |

I don't doubt the possibility of a suit that can, for all intents and purposes, implode into the shape of a ball, without the aid of Chozo technology. It's more the user's ability to survive the change that remains in question. It seems to be a concept of changing the body into an atomic structure that can be re-arranged into a small space and then restructured back into the original form without problems, something the Pirates can't seem to grasp yet.
True enough it's not totally out of the Pirate's reach, although it seems very advanced, moreso than simple beam technology. If the pirates were to ever get such technology (and more importantly, understand how it works so they can replicate it for all their soldiers) they would either have to get their hands on such a suit or it would demand vast development and knowledge. From the log entries of the Prime games it seems that Head Command of the Pirates is more interested in results. I can't imagine them spending too long on the experiments if all their subjects keep coming out badly. -------------------

if they had a bad enough reason for wanting it i have no doubts that the sp leaders would sacrifice as many pirates as needed in order to perfect the technology. your right though in that right now they dont have enough incentive and it sounds like according to the pirate data that their research in the area is taking the sidelines for more pressing matters. doesnt quite explain why the pirates have morph ball technology integrated into some of their systems. like the bridge extender in the lava pits in metroid prime. you must use the morph ball spinner to extend it. do the pirates have some other sort of technology that this was designed for and samus just has the happy circumstance of her morph ball being compatible with it?
