So far the command visor appears quite simple, but I get the feeling there will be more to it than we suspect.

Depends on how they decide to use it. I mean, commanding your ship while 5 miles underground isn't going to help much, so the level design is going to have to consider this feature.
Unless, as Alkaline mentioned, there's more to it than just commanding your ship. ------------------- | |

maybe you can command the sidekick with it. And commanding your ship 5 miles underground would help. The ship could destroy a tower causing a door to open so you can continue.

Not really. The Hunters (so far Rundus, Phazon Lady and Roboman) just aid Samus, not journey with her.

Yes, she can shapeshift into a Pirate, but she helps Samus by shooting at enemies.
